Neighbour stole my delivery?

Eleanr · 31/01/2022 19:26

Have NC as I don't want this linked to my other posts. Could be outing.

I ordered a £600 item online. Normally when I order expensive items I have to give a code, which is sent via email, to the delivery driver.

I was out today and got an email to say my package had been delivered. There was a picture included, which was very obviously my neighbour.

I thought, great, that's fine! We often take parcels in for each other. When I went to collect it from her she denied all knowledge. I was a bit flustered trying to take the dogs/ shopping inside so I just said "oh okay there must be some mistake" and went into my house.

Now I've looked closer at the pic just to make sure and it's definitely her house, she must have jt!

What would you do? I don't want to accuse her of stealing, but.... ?

I think you should speak to the company that you ordered it from/delivery company next. You don’t know for sure that she has it, so I wouldn’t stir things up with your neighbour just yet.
She has been rather prickly about your questions though..

StoneofDestiny · 31/01/2022 22:35

The date must be on the picture, it's her carpet and front door. Don't let her wriggle out of the evidence.

Muchtoomuchtodo · 31/01/2022 22:35

Maybe it’s on your neighbour’s tender hooks 🤣🤣

Downnotdown · 31/01/2022 22:35

I wouldn't be surprised if your CF neighbour 'suddenly' finds it and lets you know that another family member took it in and she knew nothing about it blah, blah, blah. She knows she's caught.

In the meantime I would:

  1. Check with the delivery company whether a code was required on this delivery, and if so, was it used. If not, why not. They can follow up why their delivery drivers have not followed the rules, if that turns out to be the case.
  2. I would report it to the police just to cover your back but I doubt they'll do anything.
  3. If you do go to her house to discuss it make sure you've got someone with you as a witness on your side as to what is said. Ideally it would be better to avoid her really.
  4. Can you sneakily check her rubbish or recycling bins for evidence of the packaging etc.

Good luck, hope it's sorted soon.

Jedsnewstar · 31/01/2022 22:36

Hopefully the company will refund as it’s down to them. You have text evidence to show the neighbor is saying they don’t have it.
I know that’s not the point you had to pay for the item that they get free.

They have technically stolen from the company though not you. Due to the expense they may pursue it.

Cheeky bint!! I would be on to the delivery company and then the police if no luck.

SmallOrFarAway · 31/01/2022 22:40

Have you contacted the company? I had a photo sent and a message saying item had been delivered to my house number, but it wasn't me or my house in the photo, and no number of a neighbour where it had been left. But it had definitely gone to someone's house! When I contacted the retailer they just sent out another delivery to replace it.

BuanoKubiamVej · 31/01/2022 22:41

The honesty or otherwise of your neighbour and the courier are not your problem. You do not have to solve this. You don't even have to call the police. Simply tell the sender that you do not have the parcel. It has not been delivered to you. It is up to them to investigate, call thepolice if necessary and work out where it went wrong. You don't have to be involved and don't have to care. You have a contract with the seller to send yoi #thing. They have to supply you with #thing. Stop with the amateur Ms Marple and let other people deal with the situation, as is their job.

luca123 · 31/01/2022 22:43

I've had the same thing with my neighbour accusing me of taking a parcel. She came knocking on my door asking for her parcel and I genuinely had no idea what she was talking about. The courier had taken a photo of it on our front step. We weren't even in but he left a note for her that he had delivered it to us but then flung in into a bush in her back garden.

lanthanum · 31/01/2022 22:45

@Eleanr

She's just text me again saying that the picture I sent her was from three months ago when she took in my pet food delivery. It was not!
Can you see the parcel? I'm just wondering whether an unscrupulous delivery driver has reused an old photo instead of delivering. That would be a neat scam. Hopefully the company can check the time-stamp on the photo.
Dasher789 · 31/01/2022 22:46

This is crazy. If the brand is printed all over the box, how can they claim its pet food? Good luck op

WhiteJellycat · 31/01/2022 22:47

You should have checked her socks op to make sure they was a match.

Is it not tender hooks? Everyday is a school day I had no idea.

Why did he do that? So unprofessional
Geppili · 31/01/2022 22:49

Omg I hope its not a Miele. I could weep for you! Look for the item being sold on FB groups and gumtree etc

GreenerWithTheScenery · 31/01/2022 22:50

Son in law had an issue with a £3k electric bike, marked delivered but not to him. They managed to narrow the tracking down to the next streets, but being in an estate the photo of the bike box propped up at the side of the house could have been anywhere.
He and my daughter ended up scouring the estate with torches until they found it, on display to all, outside a house. How it had remained there for 8 hours is still a mystery, probably only because the box was so huge.
Company couldn't have been less interested and grudgingly refunded the delivery fee.

Jux · 31/01/2022 22:54

Why were you so apologetic in the beginning? You shouldn't pussy-foot around under those circumstances especially when you're doing it by text. You knew she'd got it and that she lied to you when you went to get it so you become v matter of fact.

This is the photo the driver took when he delivered it. Your door is open and I can see your carpet. The box has XXX all over it. The company have sent me their copy of the delivery pic which is the same as this one. Someone clearly opened the door and took the parcel, at your house.

That's it. That's all you need to have done. She would probably respond with something like her sis was here and put it in the kid's room under the bed/sent it through to Narnia, and now she's found it, come and get it, sorry. You'd know she's lying but who cares? If you're cheerful and friendly when you pick it up, pretending you believe her, you might even salvage a distant/civil relationship.

It might not be too late.

WingingItSince1973 · 31/01/2022 22:54

@Im2022

Perhaps the parcel is hidden behind a chester draws?

I hope so. I really hope the neighbour doesn’t use a escape goat to get away with it!

Is it not escape goat? 😱 or skate goat? Now I'm confused!
movingschmooving · 31/01/2022 22:54

She does a bit dodgy!

WingingItSince1973 · 31/01/2022 22:56

Is it a Dyson hoover or some other Dyson thing but smaller? Because no way would someone not remember taking in a hoover! Peep through the windows see if there's a oblong box with a sheet thrown over it 🙃

Enough4me · 31/01/2022 22:58

Time to have a loud conversation outside her house with your noisiest neighbour to explain that your parcel is missing and the police have been contacted. I have one I can lend you, she would repeat everything at ear splitting decibels just so the rest of the street hears. Someone else may pop up and say they saw the delivery go in!

SilverOtter · 31/01/2022 22:58

I'd be keeping an eye on her recycling bin too in case she discards the packaging.

Mummyof4doves · 31/01/2022 22:59

I suspect that your CF of neighbour has taken it, does she have a partner ? Can you ask him when she’s out …

Tsubasa1 · 31/01/2022 23:00
