Neighbour stole my delivery?

Eleanr · 31/01/2022 19:26

Have NC as I don't want this linked to my other posts. Could be outing.

I ordered a £600 item online. Normally when I order expensive items I have to give a code, which is sent via email, to the delivery driver.

I was out today and got an email to say my package had been delivered. There was a picture included, which was very obviously my neighbour.

I thought, great, that's fine! We often take parcels in for each other. When I went to collect it from her she denied all knowledge. I was a bit flustered trying to take the dogs/ shopping inside so I just said "oh okay there must be some mistake" and went into my house.

Now I've looked closer at the pic just to make sure and it's definitely her house, she must have jt!

What would you do? I don't want to accuse her of stealing, but.... ?

feliciabirthgiver · 31/01/2022 22:06

OP I just wanted to say I genuinely have recently experienced a delivery where they sent me the photo but I know it was on old photo from a previous delivery, I know because in the image my Christmas wreath was still on the door! Just wanted to say your neighbour's really may not be lying as this happened to me very recently.

Im2022 · 31/01/2022 22:06

Perhaps the parcel is hidden behind a chester draws?

I hope so. I really hope the neighbour doesn’t use a escape goat to get away with it!

CovidCorvid · 31/01/2022 22:06

Yes, put it over the local,FB page acting all innocent saying you can’t understand.

Someone in our village stole a parcel off a doorstep recently…..got caught out by the ring doorbell and the footage was slapped on FB!

@Eleanr

She's just text me again saying that the picture I sent her was from three months ago when she took in my pet food delivery. It was not!
If it was a different delivery company, that alone would be suspicious.

OP, tomorrow, just contact the delivery company, and also the police.

The company should send another item out, and make sure it's to be delivered in a timeslot you can be home for. Don't allow them to fob you off by telling you that you are the one who needs to contact the delivery company. This is on them, they have the contract with the delivery company, it's the seller who is responsible here.

RaginaPhalange · 31/01/2022 22:11

Hope you get it sorted. I also hate confrontation but I'd be round there especially for such an expensive item.

Frumpypigskin · 31/01/2022 22:11

There is a (small) possibility that the delivery company have got it wrong. We live near a similar sounding road to ours and will occasionally get parcels for the house with the same number as ours on that road.
A while ago the young woman from that house came over with her dad saying that they'd been told their parcel had been delivered. It had apparently been signed for by someone with the same name as my husband so assumed it had come to us, but we definitely didn't have it. I can only think that the delivery company had an old record of my husband signing for something and got mixed up, or it was a very strange coincidence.
I felt really awful afterwards as it really did look like we'd stolen her parcel.

Princessorange · 31/01/2022 22:11

Do you have cctv at the front can you check the delivery time and see anything other than your front door?

Staffy1 · 31/01/2022 22:12

Why not just forward the actual delivery email that included the picture, then she can’t claim it was from months ago.

MrsFezziwig · 31/01/2022 22:12

It is “tenterhooks” - one word not two.

HalzTangz · 31/01/2022 22:14

I've never been given a code to give drivers and have bought lots of expensive items. I really don't think that's a common or usual thing

Maybe the neighbor could care less.
RedSoloCup · 31/01/2022 22:15

It shouldn't be left with a neighbour at all unless you agree this in delivery instructions surely? Round here if they do this they put a card through our door saying exactly where it was left !

HotToddyColdSauvignon · 31/01/2022 22:17

@CheesusWept

They’re meant to take a picture of the parcel at the door - that’s the whole point of the courier taking the pic to prove they delivered the parcel.

So surely the picture showed the parcel with the ‘Dyson’ type label all over the box?

This!!
december2020 · 31/01/2022 22:19

Here I thought tender hooks was a clever pun on tenterhooks....😬

Clearly CF neighbour has some tender hooks too... 😆

HalzTangz · 31/01/2022 22:19

Are their recycling bins outside, of so, whilst making a video for evidence, go to the bin, state date, time etc. State where bin is, outside whose house. Look in bin (I bet she's stupid enough to put boxes with your address on) on the bon. Don't touch it, but serves as evidence. Then call the police (which you already told her you have dor) and report as theft,

HelloFrostyMorning · 31/01/2022 22:20

I know a few people who have had to recite a code they have been sent by amazon if the item is worth more than £200, but they live in rough, or high crime areas, with lots of house robberies/car thefts etc.

I live in a tiny rural village, and have never experienced this myself. Even though I have ordered stuff worth £400+. But that's probably because I live in an area where crime is almost non existent.

Staffy1 · 31/01/2022 22:22

@iklboo

If your neighbour takes in a fair few parcels could it be the delivery guy?

Only if he opened the neighbour's door, stood in the threshold and took a weird selfie showing the parcel, neighbour's carpet & his feet.

Reading some of the other posts on here, it could be an old photo the delivery person has taken from a previous delivery. OP, do you still have the cat food photo to compare to this one?

I was once for DH's DC's PS5, but at the time there were many stories about people receiving boxes filled with rice instead so perhaps that's why.

Wouldn't the exif data show when the photo was taken?

BingeOnChocolate · 31/01/2022 22:25

Send a screen recording of the delivery tracking complete with the timeline and you expanding the photo. Just pug something like 'here's the tracking information which confirms it was delivered to your house and the photo shows your floor, it's not a photo of the delivery for food months ago. It's a shame if cannot be located despite the courier showing it was taken in by someone in the house. I'll have to leave to the police to review as per the companies request'.

How frustrating. I'd also refuse to take parcels for her going forward

flashy44 · 31/01/2022 22:25

@legalseagull

Go show her the photo and say "it looks like it was delivered here. Can you please just check" if she still denies knowledge tell her "weird, I'll have to call the police to report it missing"
This
StarryNightSparkles · 31/01/2022 22:26

The delivery drivers photo will have the time and date on it. When you inform the people you bought the product from they will check this with the driver.

Good luck op 💐

It's normally for electronic items. Amazon does this. One day we almost had to let the driver take it away again because we couldn't find the code (first time we had been asked for one). Fortunately, he had other deliveries on the same road so he went and did those first so we had time to find it in our message centre.
