To wonder how you feel today if you voted for Boris Johnson at the last election?

It’s absolutely no surprise that Boris is behaving in this way but I cannot actually believe that we have a prime minister like this. He is utterly morally bankrupt. If you voted for him how do you feel now?

@AllThingsServeTheBeam
You honestly shouldn't be allowed to vote if you wouldn't change your mind after this. Despicable

I was annoyed about the parties initially but the continual comments about it are out of all perspective so now I don't care about them. They would never alter how I'd vote. That would depend on the political policies that were being offered at the next general election.

Responses like yours that declare it's despicable not to change how you vote are way over the top in my view and are the reasons why I've concluded the office cake and quiz is over-egged and just another way to get at Johnson. To be honest I can think of other serious ways to criticise BJ and they might be the reason eh I wouldn't vote for him again. But not this.

daimbarsatemydogsbone · 31/01/2022 17:56

I'm not in Scotland but Ian Blackford for PM!

MajorCarolDanvers · 31/01/2022 17:56

I do think that Boris is an absolute twit, I deplore partygate and I am not a conservative.

I was a lifelong member of the Labour Party until Corbyn and the hard left took it over. His anti-Semitism, his friendships with terrorists, his wish to put ideology before electability, his destruction of the Labour Party meant that in a choice between Boris v Corbyn - Boris won.

In most circumstances in a future election I can vote Labour again with Starmer at the head.

However my voting intentions are further complicated by living in Scotland and therefore the first and foremost issue for me in saving the union and ousting the SNP. This means that I will for whichever unionist party (Labour, Libdem, Tory) in a given election has the greatest chance of beating the SNP.

But alas @AllThingsServeTheBeam isn't going to allow me to vote in future elections.

LexMitior · 31/01/2022 17:57

The wider effect is that you don't have to listen to Tory morality anymore. After all, this is their leader and their best man. It does make them look like a bunch of mendacious shysters.

AllThingsServeTheBeam · 31/01/2022 17:58

I'm not even engaging 😂 Have you actually read what you've just written? With a straight face?

PlanetNormal · 31/01/2022 17:58

@Itsnotdeep

And this isn't about Jeremy Corbyn. But what actual policies that he would have introduced are you scared of? And why?
Corbyn would never have introduced any policies of any kind because he was completely useless and unelectable, as evidenced by the fact that he lost two general elections in 30 months. And I say that as a former Labour activist.

@Readyforthegoodlife

I am genuinely interested in how an ordinary conservative voter really feels now. Not to apportion blame on them (because it really, really is not the fault of the electorate) but just actually wanting to know how it affects how voters feel about the prime minister and the party given that you gave them support before. Now how do you feel? Would you do so again? Do you want a new leader (now or later)? Is there a route out of this for Boris Johnson in your opinion?
I’m not sure if I’m a typical Conservative voter, but the last time I voted (when David Cameron won) I voted Conservative. This was mainly because I thought that Labour had been shocking with the UK’s finances, and Tony Blair’s actions with Iraq were unforgivable (and that was before any investigations). I wasn’t living in the UK at the last election, but I definitely wouldn’t have voted for a lunatic terrorist lover like Jeremy Corbyn. Conversely, if there was an election tomorrow, I would vote for Keir Starmer. I know loads of people will pile in and say that you vote for a party, not a person, but I don’t think that’s true. I think that the direction and culture of the party is set by the leader at the top, so the leader matters more than the party. I would never vote for Jeremy, I would vote for Keir. I would vote for David Cameron, I wouldn’t vote for Boris. That’s probably not how most people vote though, so not sure if it helps you!
SafeMove · 31/01/2022 17:59

I voted Labour, not Tory.

I am FUMING with the Conservative Party more than the electorate. They could gave chosen Rory Stewart. He would have been a thousand times better at handling the pandemic (see his interview on 3rd March 2020), he is a serious and thoughtful public servant (google his past qualifications and jobs) and he would have NEVER allowed regular piss up parties in Downing Street in a pandemic. The Tories went for populism over government. They deserve to implode. They knew exactly who Johnson is and what he would do. They fucked it and us.

Iggly · 31/01/2022 18:00

Why are people talking about Corbyn?

We have to deal with what we have now quite frankly.

We have a Prime Minister who is under criminal investigation FFS and there is no way to actually make him go. How is that accountability?

We need a better democratic framework and proportional representation instead of a stupid two party system.

Ostryga · 31/01/2022 18:00

Tories always dig their heels in, even when the evidence of how utterly shit their party is slapping them about the face.

They can’t admit they’re wrong! Or they still think Tories are aspirational. Or they’re scarred from JC. The fact that people below the breadline still vote Tory is utterly fucking beyond me, it’s like voting yourself into an early grave. But the people want what they want.

I personally hope the blonde haired cunt stays as long as possible, to keep digging their grave. I need some central/left govt in my life next election.

granny24 · 31/01/2022 18:01

Anyone voting Conservative should be ashamed, very ashamed.

whenwillthemadnessend · 31/01/2022 18:03

He has disappointed me but I do t feel guilty any more should Anyone gaslighted by a compulsive liar. Besides Corbyn was a worse choice for my family.

100% agree.

how so?

And what about the poor in this country?

And even if you voted for Brexit, are you happy now with the result?

I feel very angry with the govt and the electorate. I work with people in poverty. I can see the direct results of this government on them. I can see the effects of Brexit on our country. I knew what Boris was like. I cannot see how anyone could have voted for him. And I certainly can't see how any right minded person could be defending him now.

CMZ2018 · 31/01/2022 18:05

Absolutely fine. Thanks for asking, although I didn’t vote for him as he wasn’t standing as MP in my constituency. But I know what you’re doing your best to ask so good try

CMZ2018 · 31/01/2022 18:06

😂😂 dry your eyes
stuckdownahole · 31/01/2022 18:08

I didn't vote for him and I normally vote Labour, but I'm glad that he led us through the pandemic and not Corbyn.

Corbyn was both inexperienced in government and worryingly sympathetic to pre-1990 communism, so I believe he would have attempted to exert a much greater degree of social control with tougher lockdowns and more generous furlough payments. The UK does not really have enough police to manage this, so it would have ended one of three bad ways: a massive protest like Canada and the PM fleeing town, the army on the streets as extra law enforcers, or people being encouraged to inform on their neighbours.

Boris Johnson is a natural libertarian who loves to be popular, and I think the public always believed that he would get rid of the restrictions as soon as he could. It kept morale up.

Again, I didn't vote for him. I think he should step down now, as lawmakers have to stick to the law.

the80sweregreat · 31/01/2022 18:09

To those making out that all conservative voters are ' vile ' ( as Angela Raynor called them or whatever it is she said back in September ) are playing into people's hands. My Dh will never change his mind about voting for the conservatives He isn't a bad person , he is great , but just believes they are better with the economy and go on past track records.
You can't make someone change by throwing insults around. We have to learn to agree to disagree , it's how democracy and various views have to get along.
I've had to learn to see the other points of views and live with it I'm afraid.
( I didn't agree with the Iraq war for example )
I know it's hard .

LexMitior · 31/01/2022 18:10

Well he's certainly not popular now so something of a failure.

Also, parties aside, do people not wonder if this is how he runs his office, what the actual policies he has? Serious question?

FortVictoria · 31/01/2022 18:10

Iggy - people are talking about Corbyn because the OP asked why people voted blue. For many families that was because they didn’t trust Corbyn. So they were choosing the lesser of two evils.

Totally agree with your comments about the current PM, and also your comment that we need a better system.

Mamamia7962 · 31/01/2022 18:11

Granny24 - What should I be ashamed of?

Itsnotdeep · 31/01/2022 18:11

Anyway from my perspective the longer Johnson stays as PM the better. Labour will trounce the Tories in an election if he's still the PM then.

Thebig3 · 31/01/2022 18:13

Posts like this really annoy me. Why does it matter how someone who voted for tory now feels......wonder if you asked that after Tony Blair went to war in Iraq illegally.....

We live in a democracy, that means you are entitled to vote for whomever you want. Women fought for the right for us to vote so therefore people shouldn't be mocked for voting for who they wanted to as its their right!!

You should be more angry and the 1000's of people who still don't use their right to vote. That's your issue!!!

Nanny0gg · 31/01/2022 18:13

@granny24

Anyone voting Conservative should be ashamed, very ashamed.
That sort of attitude is what puts so many people off changing their minds.

It will not win people over
