It’s absolutely no surprise that Boris is behaving in this way but I cannot actually believe that we have a prime minister like this. He is utterly morally bankrupt. If you voted for him how do you feel now?

the80sweregreat · 31/01/2022 18:15

My dh and family are not ashamed to vote for their Conservative MP
It's stupid to think that they would be.
They think I'm mad to vote Labour
We're all different and my dh and dh's parents were typical very much ' working class tories ' too.

LexMitior · 31/01/2022 18:15

Isn't it a little funny that Tory voters have brought in a government with very high levels of tax, a commitment to spend money on property owners and impoverish the young on that basis, and the prospect of paying quite a lot more tax on the way?

Sunlight uplands some way off, and that is worth laughing at, I feel.

daimbarsatemydogsbone · 31/01/2022 18:15

@the80sweregreat

To those making out that all conservative voters are ' vile ' ( as Angela Raynor called them or whatever it is she said back in September ) are playing into people's hands. My Dh will never change his mind about voting for the conservatives He isn't a bad person , he is great , but just believes they are better with the economy and go on past track records. You can't make someone change by throwing insults around. We have to learn to agree to disagree , it's how democracy and various views have to get along. I've had to learn to see the other points of views and live with it I'm afraid. ( I didn't agree with the Iraq war for example ) I know it's hard .
There's now quite a lot of factual evidence suggesting the Conservatives aren't "better with the economy" - in particular, they are really good at putting up taxes, going on past (and present) records.
Tillyvonpantsalo · 31/01/2022 18:16

I thinl Boris just believes he's a maverick who is assuring his place in history. He's probably planning how he'll be raking in the money giving after dinner talks, telling people what a 'cheeky chappie' he was as PM.

We really need to overhaul our government. No minister should be in charge of a dept they know Jack shit about.

Anyone defending Boris, who let's face it, partied whilst people were unable to to attend the funeral of loved ones is as morally lacking as he is.

How could anyone ever have believed he'd make an acceptable PM

anon12345678901 · 31/01/2022 18:17

@granny24

Anyone voting Conservative should be ashamed, very ashamed.
I don't feel ashamed.
the80sweregreat · 31/01/2022 18:17

I agree re taxes, I'm just pointing out the reason he votes for them !
He believes this is the case.

AllThingsServeTheBeam · 31/01/2022 18:19

I'm sorry @the80sweregreat I cannot get over someone voting Tory. I would sooner forgive my dp if he cheated on me than if he voted Tory. It's unforgivable and so so selfish. You aren't voting only for your own gains by voting for tory. Especially when they had a leader like Boris fucking Johnson

LexMitior · 31/01/2022 18:20

Boris benefits

High tax
Corruption of political norms which other governments will exploit in the future
Booze for all
Mendacious lectures
Absent minded policies with cool names but no delivery
FUN!
Hate the EU - BOO
Young people find it impossible to buy homes
Removing democratic rights to protest

Want more? Vote expensive, incompetent high taxes with terrible hair now. Love ME

the80sweregreat · 31/01/2022 18:23

People thought I should feel ashamed for voting Labour , I don't , but I'm in the minority where I live and there isn't much I can do about it
My son isn't a conservative, but I'd still love him to bits if he changed allegiance because all governments are flawed and our first past the post system isn't great either.
He agrees not to argue politics with his 'tory dad. ' !
I understand why you feel this way , but some voting records are entrenched and some tory MPs are decent hard working people too
I just don't vote for them myself.
That's politics!!

AllThingsServeTheBeam · 31/01/2022 18:23

@anon no, you don't feel shame as you're a Tory. The poster said that you should feel shame. But as Boris has proved time and time again it's an emotional that Tories cannot feel

StormzyinaTCup · 31/01/2022 18:24

Floating voter here but did vote Tory last time (and the previous). If we had an election tomorrow there is no person that I can think of from any party that I'd look at and say I would want them to run the country, I'm in conservative stronghold area and I'm not sure that's ever going to change so, I probably wouldn't bother voting at all.

Regarding Corbyn I expect he is jolly grateful now not to have a won the GE, the media would have ripped him apart over the pandemic antics of his brother.

Dasher789 · 31/01/2022 18:27

I voted tory and id vote for them again tomorrow. Most people I know broke the rules at one point or another. It isn't ideal how the party is being dragged down by the stories though so I do wish they had been more upfront.

the80sweregreat · 31/01/2022 18:27

My dh is far from 'shamed' for voting tory ..
It's silly to think he would be. Ditto my family too, they are decent hardworking normal people like so many others are too.
Jeremy's brother, yes , that would have brought him down . It's a blessing he didn't have to deal with the pandemic I suppose.

MasterGland · 31/01/2022 18:28

The lack of civil political debate is becoming quite concerning. I think we are in a very dangerous place in the West at the moment, as our political language has become very charged, as this thread shows.
Boris was a populist candidate, albeit a fairly tame one by European standards. Populism is a reaction to the societal changes brought about by a market without morals. We have not reached the peak of this yet.
We need to urgently temper our language and focus on what unites us.

HufflepuffPride · 31/01/2022 18:31

I live in a former red wall constituency, where until 2019 there has never been anything other than a Labour MP. People are fucking furious here and really regret making that choice. They went against the the habit of a lifetime and this is how he repays them. I’d imagine it’s the same in other former red wall towns as well.

Inastatus · 31/01/2022 18:32

@Itsnotdeep

Anyway from my perspective the longer Johnson stays as PM the better. Labour will trounce the Tories in an election if he's still the PM then.
@Itsnotdeep - I wouldn’t bet on that!
gogohm · 31/01/2022 18:32

I didn't, it was clear what kind of character he had before he even became Tory party leader (which made him prime minister). That said if he has the skills to sort out the Ukraine crisis (it requires a kind of approach that sage European politics doesn't do) I will forgive him for drinking wine in his garden. I'm not holding my breathe but I think he might be better placed than other world leaders

the80sweregreat · 31/01/2022 18:33

It's all about divide and rule
Depressing really
I wished that I didn't care ( like others I know)
Plus my Labour MP isn't to be seen at any time the lib dem is much more vocal in my very safe tory seat

Georgeskitchen · 31/01/2022 18:33

Why is it that Corbyn supporters seem to be incapable of engaging in balanced debate without hurling foul mouthed abuse at anyone who even mildly disagrees with their opinions?

Whammyyammy · 31/01/2022 18:33

Voted Bojo, and if Corbyn was still running Labour and a GE tomorrow, bojo would get my vote again

Daftasabroom · 31/01/2022 18:34

I think this is one of the drawbacks of the British system of democracy. For a start its first past the post which is crap. Secondly we have an appointed second chamber which is crap. Then we have to make the decision whether we want to vote for a party and it's manifesto promises. Or the prospective prime minister or potential cabinet. Or our preferred local representative, or just an fashioned protest vote (brexit) or perhaps least worst combination of all the above.

Whammyyammy · 31/01/2022 18:36

Can't understand why people abuse each other on who they voted for? Wasn't that long ago we couldn't vote, now we can, we abuse one another for not agreeing who we individually vote for??? Kind of defeats what was fought so hard for to achieve.
AllThingsServeTheBeam · 31/01/2022 18:36

Dear lord. We deserve it. We deserve to be lied to and made a fool of like we are.
Exhausteddog · 31/01/2022 18:36

@ClariceQuiff

My husband voted for the twat. I just asked him - he thinks the Gray report is a fuss about nothing, and that Bozo's Brexit efforts (he voted for Brexit too) led to our good position with Covid vaccinations, which outweighs any other considerations

My husband and I have many things in common but we are political opposites.

This sounds exactly like my DH! He thinks all the stuff about Dominic Cummings/Barnard Castle and party gate is all a fuss over nothing... I feel hugely aggrieved that his mum died in lockdown and, because of the rules, me and DC were only able to visit her once in the 6 months before she died.Sad
