To wonder how you feel today if you voted for Boris Johnson at the last election?

It’s absolutely no surprise that Boris is behaving in this way but I cannot actually believe that we have a prime minister like this. He is utterly morally bankrupt. If you voted for him how do you feel now?

@squashyhat

Are you only interested in the views of the constituents of Uxbridge and South Ruislip? Because they are the only people who could have voted either for or against him. If you mean those who voted for whichever Tory candidate stood in their constituency, that has no bearing on who is Prime Minister. HTH.
This is a nonsensical response, because whilst we all understand how our parliament works technically, we all also know many voters only voted Conservative in 2019 because they wanted Johnson as PM.

Of course
rrhuth · 31/01/2022 17:04

A very high number of people prioritise PM over constituency MP, it is why 'best PM' is the key indicator, and why the anti-Corbyn messages were so damaging to Labour in 2019.

It is quaint to think most people choose on local candidate credentials.

@SliceOfCakeCupOfTea

Oof I love how picky and defensive some posters are.

It's clear what the OP means....

I expect it’s because many of them feel like turkeys who voted for Christmas.
MarceyMc · 31/01/2022 17:05

@CheeseCakeSunflowers

I think Boris should resign but I think we would be in a different but worse mess now if we had Jeremy Corbyn as PM.
Whataboutery at it's finest Hmm
Berengaria1 · 31/01/2022 17:07

I voted for my constituency MP because I think he did a good job. I didn't have the opportunity to vote for leader as I'm not a member of the Tory party.

rrhuth · 31/01/2022 17:08

Corbyn I am 100% certain would have stuck to whatever rules his government set - didn't he divorce over not wanting his kids to go to grammar school??

In that regard, Corbyn would have been nothing like Johnson. Johnson has lied his whole life.

Berengaria1 · 31/01/2022 17:08

In answer to your question re Johnson, I don't support him as leader. I saw how he behaved as London Mayor. Nothing has changed and I didn't think it would.

I suppose there might be a more pathetic response but I find it hard to imagine.
DSGR · 31/01/2022 17:10

People pretending it was all about their local MP make me laugh. You know it was about Boris, just be honest. He holds all the power.

So you don't care about policies? How did you decide that none of the other candidates would have "done a good job"?
Newgirls · 31/01/2022 17:12

I doubt he does anything for actual Uxbridge and Ruislip. They must vote him in thinking it makes them special in some way. Does he ever go there?! Seems pretty run down area really not as nice as neighbouring areas so he can’t do much for it?

There was another thread re the MP crossing the floor where loads of posters gave the op a hard time for suggesting it was the leader / party over MP

I disagreed on there though and think it’s party and leader

I think there are some ok-ish Tory MPs out there. Solid, traditional etc. But surely they are tainted by this cabinet too?
Ablababla · 31/01/2022 17:14

So many people I know round here (Home Counties con/lib dem marginal) voted for tory despite hating him and thinking he was a reprehensible human being because they were worried about Corbin. I’ve always been baffled by this. Corbin’s not someone I agree with but why would someone who was demonstrably dishonest and opportunistic be better than that?

I find this "local MP" stuff bizzare. Unless your local MP is an independent or Caroline Lucas it's nuts. I don't care how brilliant they are I couldn't vote for a Tory MP as their policies are anathema to me - are people rally saying they vote for a party that has reprehensible policies that will damage the country just because they perceive the MP representing that party as "doing a good job"? That defies all logic.
the80sweregreat · 31/01/2022 17:14

We do not ( or never will have ) Jeremy Corbyn as prime minister , but we do have Boris Johnson and this particular thread isn't about JC.
Start a ' why we are pleased that Jeremy Corbyn isn't the PM ' thread.
You'll get lots of replies!

@RussianSpy101

I feel absolutely fine. Hopefully he won’t resign.

These threads always go the same way. About 6 people have answered the question and the rest is an attack on one or two posts. So no one is any the better informed.

True given the landslide many voted for Cons

But most of thread will just be attacks if anyone relies to question

Readyforthegoodlife · 31/01/2022 17:19

@daimbarsatemydogsbone Does anybody really just vote based on the very limited local issues their mp might choose to get involved in? Maybe they are just saying so now because they’re embarrassed that they contributed to Johnson becoming prime minister. Just a theory.

Oh blah blah blah. What’s this, ‘worse things happen at sea’? Go on then, in what way would it have been worse?

I agree - I'd never vote Tory due to their policies but there are decent MPs of all parties.

Readyforthegoodlife · 31/01/2022 17:22

I really am still interested in genuine replies to the intended question of how conservative voters feel about Johnson now.

Because they offered two completely different visions and ways forward. Even if someone was the nicest, most honourable person in the world (and I don't believe that Corbyn was but let's say), if you don't want to go in the direction they're going, you not going to vote for them.
