It’s absolutely no surprise that Boris is behaving in this way but I cannot actually believe that we have a prime minister like this. He is utterly morally bankrupt. If you voted for him how do you feel now?

OP posts:
the80sweregreat · 31/01/2022 17:40

This thread isn't exclusively about Jeremy Corbyn
Please , someone start one and you'll be swamped with people agreeing with you I'm sure
People will still vote conservative ( my own Dh and immediate family are the same )
I doubt that this will make much difference to be honest.
I am appalled by their behavior, but I know that others are not. It's how it is in politics.

NETSRIK · 31/01/2022 17:41

Can't help but wonder about the voting choices of the posters being picky about the OP's question when they know exactly what it means 😂.

MajorCarolDanvers · 31/01/2022 17:41

@AllThingsServeTheBeam You honestly shouldn't be allowed to vote if you wouldn't change your mind after this. Despicable

I am not sure that you should as you don't seem to understand the concept of democracy.

But then this is really just a thread to insult people on isn't it.

Berengaria1 · 31/01/2022 17:41

Counsellortroi yes, I did look at the bigger picture. With reference to Johnson as leader, I would never have supported him having seen his performance as London Mayor but i didn't predict he would be as bad as he has turned out to be. I thought he would have taken the office of PM more seriously. Clearly I was wrong. I would still vote for my constituency MP though (he is no longer supporting Johnson).

PlanetNormal · 31/01/2022 17:42

Most people who voted Tory won’t give a toss about the parties in Number 10. They knew what Johnson was like when they voted for him, but they did so because they correctly believed he would deliver Brexit.

What they absolutely will care about is when he puts their taxes up. That definitely isn’t what he voted for.

At the last election I couldn't bear the idea of Boris Johnson or Jeremy Corbyn being pm. I voted Labour because I felt the local candidate was the most engaged with the community and I agreed with more of their values. However we got a Tory because its a safe seat.
I'm not sure how much worse JC could have been tbh!!Confused

the80sweregreat · 31/01/2022 17:44

My own family were smirking at my soap box antics about this ; they are infuriating that I could get worked up about a ' few ' parties
I get it , to be honest , but my view is different and I think he is laughing at us all
Again, that's democracy and politics , we can't all agree all the time.

LexMitior · 31/01/2022 17:44

Being Tory is pretty self serving! They will only get rid when it affect them and the bottom line.

Its also totally ridiculous to give Johnson the credit for Brexit. Most of it was done under May. The bit he did do was the Protocol which doesn't work.

Besides, the party thing is a red herring; who is surprised that an old fool with a young wife has parties? Nobody. Really the bigger issue is the use of alcohol under his watch, his tactic rule breaking culture which extends his own party and civil servants affects their attitudes.

A fish rots from the head. No, this man will not achieve a bean in the next few years if he survives. He will just find new ways to disappoint people.

@SliceOfCakeCupOfTea

Oof I love how picky and defensive some posters are.

It's clear what the OP means....

Absolutely true.

Tory tax rises are far from rare - and like the forthcoming one, they are always designed to redistribute the burden to poorer people. People who vote Tory don't care about them - and even if they are poorer they are either forelock tuggers or weird aspirational types.
Itsnotdeep · 31/01/2022 17:47

@Dillydollydingdong

I'm bored with the whole issue of Partygate. I don't care whether Boris had parties - it depends what you call them. I call them work events and I don't understand how the addition of cake turns them into parties. Let's just get on with more important things - including the 100,000 Russian soldiers currently threatening the Ukraine.
Don't you care whether the Prime Minister lied to Parliament? Don't you care whether the Prime Minister broke laws which he set? That he considered himself above the law?

If you don't, you should.

MajorCarolDanvers · 31/01/2022 17:47

@AllThingsServeTheBeam

You deserve to be insulted. And I'd say that to your face. Brilliant democracy!

Am I supposed to be interested that some random person on the internet wants to call me names for having a different opinion to them?

Crikey.

BlueEyesWhiteDragon · 31/01/2022 17:47

I'd guess I'm a traditional conservative voter in an area which is and has been Conservative for ages. I do generally vote for a Party rather than a local candidate.

I think Boris should go.

But then I didn't actually vote for him or the Conservatives at the last election. I voted Green because well Brexit.

I think Boris is a liability.

If he wants to take the praise when things have gone well (and I include furlough, vaccination role out on that which he harps on about at every speech) then he also needs to accept the buck stops with him with the negatives - the party culture, the drinking and the general ridiculousness of everything that has come over over partygate.

I followed the rules but I'll be honest I aren't actually that bothered about a group of people who work together, spending more time in an evening hanging out together whether that is for work purposes or party purposes. But the optics are horrific. At the risk of a giant flaming I felt the same over Cummings and his driving to a better location to lockdown / isolate. The buck should stop with Boris and he should resign. He won't though and anecdotally, the majority of Conservative voters I speak to aren't bothered.

They still see him as a bit of a "bloke", a good egg who makes bad decisions but all in all is who they want in charge. Whatever else can be said about Johnson his PR machine and public image managers are doing an amazing job!

Seb342 · 31/01/2022 17:48

I voted conservative and feel fine. In my local area everyone was breaking lockdown rules daily and I'd arrive home from work and they'd all be sat outside drinking wine and happily living the furlough life. I've broken lockdown rules myself and have no regrets about it, if I could go to work with hundreds of people then I was sure to visit my elderly family members who lived alone to check on them and I'm not sorry I did.

The same neighbours that were having lockdown garden parties everyday are very vocal about their disgust at Boris, seems people have very short and selective memories when it comes to their own rule breaking.

Itsnotdeep · 31/01/2022 17:48

And this isn't about Jeremy Corbyn. But what actual policies that he would have introduced are you scared of? And why?

LexMitior · 31/01/2022 17:48

Its called "assetocracy" - basically if you have property great. If no property, tough. You can pay for old people to keep their assets!

DrCoconut · 31/01/2022 17:48

I never have and never would vote conservative. I have always known them as the party of the rich and privileged and oppressors of the less well off. I can't be responsible for that but evidently it doesn't bother a lot of people, including bizarrely those who are negatively affected by conservative policies. My local news pages on social media show that in the comments section. The tories and their allies in the MSM did a great propaganda job in the run up to the election and ensured they got in. Now their corruption knows no bounds and it's likely to keep getting worse unless they are stopped. Though partygate shows just how difficult this will now be.

Loki01 · 31/01/2022 17:49

@ClariceQuiff

My husband voted for the twat. I just asked him - he thinks the Gray report is a fuss about nothing, and that Bozo's Brexit efforts (he voted for Brexit too Sad ) led to our good position with Covid vaccinations, which outweighs any other considerations.

My husband and I have many things in common but we are political opposites.

Do you just not talk about it? I cant imagine not voting the same tbf. We discuss the politics all the time and I probably need someone to agree with me by the sound of it:)

Rant time
Family member on Saturday ( talking about who might take over the conservatives one day )
' rishi sunak will show people how to aspire to own 12 homes and have a wife worth billions '
.. doh 😣
This is what your dealing with I'm sad to say
Tories will tory , it's ever thus

Fairness. The rich wouldn't get richer.
the80sweregreat · 31/01/2022 17:53

I'm probably a typical 'tory ' , a home owner , tory safe seat area, I'm not rich but I don't have to count the pennies anymore ( I did for decades though and it's hard going )
I just want a fairer society but the conservatives are not about that. They have different values.

Iggly · 31/01/2022 17:54

Brexit was “done” by Boris but it was not his magic powers that made it happen. He pushed through a worse deal than Theresa May and actually it still is not done as we haven’t sorted out trade deals now we are out of the eu. So I’m not sure why people credit that with Boris.

I’m bored of the whole “I got the big calls right” because Boris is a known liar and he will be lying to take credit for said claims anyway.

The fact that people chose to believe him on some things but not others really tells you just how desperate they are.

LexMitior · 31/01/2022 17:54

Well that's the really perverse thing that the gap between the rich and the poor got worse during the pandemic, that the policies that have been introduced re tax are making that worse, and old people are getting their care costs guaranteed which works out much better in the South than the North.

Truly, you do wonder about "aspiration culture" - I think it used to be called the freedom to get into debt. Now that's Tory for poor people

Iggly · 31/01/2022 17:55

We can’t all have 12 homes and billions in the bank.

The Tories point out many times that money is not in infinite supply. And, as a result, having people hoard obscene amounts of wealth means less for everyone else.

It’s so simple that they just don’t get it.
