How long does javelin arse last?

TiffanyAchingsHatFullofSky · 29/01/2022 22:20

It happened to me last week for the first time in ages. It lasted about 5-6 seconds.

I was just wondering whether, when we describe javelin arse, are we all experiencing the same thing?

Does it only last a few seconds for others as well?

Ah @WonderfulYou I hope life continues as such for you all, its not fun!

ABitOfAShitShow · 30/01/2022 00:10

@WonderfulYou

I’ve never even heard of this or stabby vaginas. I wonder if it’s genetic as no one in my family gets these either, that I know of.
Show off.
Chocaholic9 · 30/01/2022 00:11

I used to get javelin arse on a regular basis. It was an awful pain that lasted maybe 5 seconds and made me scream.

I switched to a high fibre diet about 4 months ago to help treat an illness I have (40-45g of fibre per day) and it's stopped. I haven't had it since so I think mine was related to my bowel movements.

Livelovebehappy · 30/01/2022 00:17

I have never, ever heard of this, nor have I experienced it! I feel blessed.....

MrsAvocet · 30/01/2022 00:18

@Mushrooms0up

Yes for Meir day 10 seconds max but I can’t Move and feel like I’m about to die.

Out of interest,For those that have had kids,
How do contractions compare?

I think it's worse than contractions. Some of it is psychological I suppose - you know labour pains have a point to them as opposed to JA which is just some kind of satanic torture, but also because of the nature of the pain. For me at least, contractions built up fairly slowly, reached a peak and faded away whereas JA just comes out of nowhere. One minute your fine, next in complete agony so there's no warning or preparation for it. Plus people are sympathetic when you are in labour and you are "allowed" to show that you're in pain. Nobody wants to tell the world they're in the middle of a JA attack!

Interesting that men get it too. I always thought it was a hormonal thing and I haven't actually had it since I started getting perimenopausal.

Once, for a few seconds, every four weeks!
Lessofallthisunpleasantness · 30/01/2022 00:22

Blimey! Never heard of this…… also never felt this…. I am nearly 50!’

RightOnTheEdge · 30/01/2022 00:23

This thread has made me realise that I haven't had javelin arse for ages.
It usually lasts a few seconds for me but feels longer! Its awful, it makes me freeze and not be able to breathe but trying to hide it if other people are there.
I've never had javelin fanny thank goodness! Shock

Orangeon · 30/01/2022 00:25

@ProudThrilledHappy

Oh up to 10-15 seconds for me. I’m sure I’ve watched a video from a doctor explaining this before, something to do with hormones in the menstrual cycle affecting the bowels but I cannot for the life of me find it now.
Yes - the hormones ‘leak’ into the surrounding areas from around your uterus and cause contractions in the intestine/bowel. The GP explained it to me once. The leaky hormones are also why you get the period shits - the contractions make the waste go through your system more quickly.

Me neither! Either I'm a genetic mutant or all the rest of you are? Confused

When I’m on my period. Maybe 4 jabs max of about 3 seconds long.

Magnalux · 30/01/2022 00:40

Yip around the time of my period.. 5 seconds of agony every now and then.. makes me gasp out loud every time! Going on as long as I can remember .. over 20 yrs anyway! Im actually relieved that it’s not just me!!

Forgothowmuchlhatehomeschoolin · 30/01/2022 00:51

Best thing about menopause is l no longer suffer with this!

JeffThePilot · 30/01/2022 00:59

About 5 seconds but now that I think about it, I’ve not had a bout for a while …

sadeyedladyofthelowlandsea · 30/01/2022 01:06

Never had javelin arse, but I always imagine it's kind of like sciatica? Because oh my christ I have never known sudden pain like that. Just out of nowhere like being stabbed in the side of my arse all of the way down to my toes so agonisingly that I did actually collapse a few times.

Sugarplumfairy65 · 30/01/2022 01:07

It would last about 15 minutes for me and it was usually during the night. The pain would wake me up. But, I've not had it for the last few months since I've been taking Anastrazole, which condoms my belief that it is hormone related. I first started getting it when I was 13 years old

marpelier · 30/01/2022 01:15

I'm with the "never heard of it - have no idea what you are all talking about " crowd. Unless you mean that horrendous pain when you first have to do a poo after giving birth? IS it like that?

figuringoutmylife · 30/01/2022 01:19

There I thought I was the only one. And herein lies the reason I could never give up MN! Grin

SD1978 · 30/01/2022 01:19

@marpelier - it's hard to explain- and there is the sudden short version which lasts seconds- never had that. For me, it's a deep, aching constant aching pain that is indescribable really and all consuming. You can't really think, move, or do anything. I sit on the toilet and push- doesn't help. Rock on the bed, tried rolling a certain way on the floor- nothing gives you release- you just know it will end eventually but not when, and that nothing will make a difference. For me, it's not sharp, it's a pain inside that you can't get away from- I've almost had vagul responses (fainting) from it, it's a visceral pain.

youvegottenminuteslynn · 30/01/2022 01:21

5-20 seconds I would guess.

Every period.

It's fucking HORRIBLE isn't it?

Makes me jump up and yelp every time.

Yummymummy2020 · 30/01/2022 01:29

It’s horrendous I haven’t had it in ages though!!!you can’t mistake it for anything else 😂😂😂

I never realised that period squits were a thing until MN! I honestly thought it was just me. I have now passed this knowledge onto DD Grin
Frozenlikeablockofmarble · 30/01/2022 01:46

Yes, another proctalgia fugax sufferer here. Nearly always the middle of the night, but sometimes at other times, and so all-consuming that you cannot think about - or do - anything else.

I’ve not been through childbirth, but I’ve had a kidney stone, been a lifelong migraine sufferer, had appalling bouts of toothache and earache, and live generally with chronic pain. I can indeed confirm, however, that proctalgia fugax is a special kind of hell. As a pp said, you know it will pass off eventually, but not when exactly - you hope it’ll be an attack that lasts 10 minutes instead of half an hour!

Come to think of it, I’ve had it all my life too - remember it happening to me as a child!

My worst attack struck me while studying in the uni library. I thought I was going to die.
