To ask what we'd put down as our marital status?

With DH for 20 years. Not married and I don't want to turn this a debate about whether we should be or not :)

Looking for life insurance quotes, and the marital status is either married, single, divorced, separated, widowed or civil partnership. None of these fit. What would you put? I don't know whether this affects the premium displayed. Does anyone know? Thanks so much in advance Smile

WhistPie Yes that’s correct it can be but not always.

Obviously you’ve had financial advice and are certain of your position.

Not all people are as on it - like man I mentioned earlier he’d not even bothered to nominate his partner of 20 years so his wife got death his death in service payment.

People change jobs and people aren’t always on top of paperwork.

Yep, genuinely asking for a friend actually, she’s in a complicated situation and this thread made me realise that from what she’s told me, she isn’t as protected as she might think. No need for all the sniping and insulting the OP ffs.

We're not sniping. We're explaining why your friend needs to get advice from a more informed source. It's none of my business why OP isn't married, but it's obvious she doesn't know enough about the legalities of it to give any reliable information to someone in a complicated situation, and doesn't want the rest of us to be able to respond to it.

Your friend needs proper legal advice.

@TurkeyRoastvBubbleandSqueek

Ring them up and ask them. It is pretty poor form in this day and age that co-habiting isn't one of the choices!
On official forms it would not be a choice as there is no such thing as common law marriage.

I don't recall ever seeing a form that had co-habiting or common law marriage as one of the choices
