NC because this is outing

Say you went to a sibling's wedding where the bride had handmade all the favours and they were various little felt animals.

The bride gave you a cow, your OH a horse, and your

So much lunacy on this thread, it's hilarious

OP, no I wouldn't be offended at all (and I'm definitely more cow-sized than swan), your wedding favours were really sweet and I'm sure the people who love you were really pleased

SIL is being a knobber, I hope she isn't spoiling your enjoyment of your lovely wedding memories

AsYouWishButtercup · 22/01/2022 02:42

Jaysus wept, talk about looking for problems!!

As an aside I’d would LOVE felt animals as a favour. So different from the usual pointless tat you get on the table. You sound super talented and thoughtful OP.

AsYouWishButtercup · 22/01/2022 02:43

@ShinyHappyPoster

In RL, if you upset a friend inadvertently then you apologise.
Not unless you’re a tremendous doormat and that friend is being a complete fucking lunatic.
Aria999 · 22/01/2022 02:49

Aww I think making the animals was really sweet!

Very very weird to be offended. They must be pretty insecure.

TheGrinchsDog · 22/01/2022 03:07

@FishGoBloop I would have loved this as a wedding favour! So much fun and handmade with love! Much better than sugared almonds ha ha!

Your new relative was way out of order!

SquirrelG · 22/01/2022 04:41

Forgot to mention in my various posts OP that I love the idea of the felt animals as wedding favours, and would be delighted with whatever I got.

FannyCann · 22/01/2022 05:05

I love those cow cards @KimikosNightmare
Highland Cows are great subjects, there are some beautiful paintings of Highland Cows on display where I work which would really tempt me if I had a spare £500.
So no I wouldn't take offence if I was given a card with a cow or a handmade felt toy. It was a sweet idea OP.

Now a card like this one and I might feel offended - who sends a card like that?

As an aside isn't the statistic wrong? I thought it was 1 in 3 marriages ended in divorce or maybe 1 in 4 but not 50%.

Would this offend you?
Zonder · 22/01/2022 05:45

As an aside isn't the statistic wrong?
42% in the UK and 50% in the USA.

Hydrate · 22/01/2022 06:03

No, I would not be offended. I think the bride unintentionally gave the sibling a good representative of the sibling though.

This thread contains some of the most concentrated lunacy I've ever seen on Mumsnet.
I’m forever trying to leave MN and reclaim my time but then threads like this exist and I cannot walk away.

I wouldn’t be happy to receive a cow , a pig or a bitch . I don’t think you thought it through and now want justification that it was fine. I don’t think it was fine actually.

So you'd see a felted dog as being male or female? Grin
Katieandthekids · 22/01/2022 07:57

For our wedding we gave everyone superhero/fantasy figurines from my husbands childhood mounted on a wooden block... gave my MIL dearth Maul hahahahahaha!

Cottagepieandpeas · 22/01/2022 08:03

No I wouldn’t be offended @FishGoBloop

I would love to get a felt animal (of any sort) if I went to a wedding.

I can’t believe how miserable some people are about this.
Do people actually go to weddings for what they ‘get’?

scatteredglitter · 22/01/2022 08:12

Firstly cows are lovely animals ..... even if you meant it as an insult I would choose not to take it as such !

But she clearly has issues with you and feelings of comparison and inadequacy / insecurities to interpret this in such a way. Maybe she was jealous of your wedding, the favours - they were uniques, clearly guests loved it. Maybe the in laws were more supportive of your wedding than hers or someone made a comment
Either way - not your circus not your monkeys and I wouldn't involve myself in a drama like that.
Don't let her bring the joy of your wedding down let her get over her sulk and ignore this foolishness.

If you have already explained your intent behind the figures then wait for her to calm and apologise.
I would be on the verge of annoyance with her creating a drama unnecessarily and her ungrateful ness for the other gift attention seeking attempts to disrupt a family occasion. Even if she was upset - your wedding was not the time or occasion to have a visible strop about it - If she truly had an issue and was a true friend then she could have spoken to you at another stage aboit it.

They do say- when people show you who they are .... believe them.

scatteredglitter · 22/01/2022 08:14

Also those are favours I would adore to get they are personal and thoughtful (but not a label)

MsMiaWallace · 22/01/2022 08:16

Should have made her DH a unicorn, see how that went down.

girafferaffle · 22/01/2022 11:04

Finally ordered a felting kit thanks OP 😂

I hope it's not too hard, I have form for just abandoning crafts!

That was a sneaky was of getting rid of all his boyhood figures before the wedding 😂😂

You'd hold the lack of felt testicle against op? Oh you must think I'm a bitch my tiny felt dog doesn't have bollocks??
ufucoffee · 22/01/2022 12:01

Who cares what she thinks. She's a nutter. They were lovely gifts. Offence is taken, not given.

yeowemetwelvepegs · 22/01/2022 12:09

I have just read your post out to my DH and DC. They all think that you sound lovely, your favours are cute and sibling is bonkers.

We are all sorry this happened to you. Ignore.

Aria999 · 22/01/2022 12:32

I think seashor is your sil

PatchworkElmer · 22/01/2022 12:44

The needle felted favours sound really lovely! In hindsight I think it’s risky to give a cow to a woman if you weren’t SURE they wouldn’t take offence- I certainly wouldn’t risk it. However she is being utterly ridiculous, especially about the other favours- and it’s awful that she kicked off at your wedding about it.

Even though there’s not a backstory for you, do you think she could’ve read something into other things you’d done? Seems like a ridiculous overreaction if literally nothing has happened before.
