NC because this is outing

Say you went to a sibling's wedding where the bride had handmade all the favours and they were various little felt animals.

The bride gave you a cow, your OH a horse, and your

I would have loved this.
If I had gifted my MIL a cow she would have left the wedding Grin . Some people love drama.
Such a lovely idea OP.

DontTellThemYourNamePike · 21/01/2022 20:24

Why do people feel the need to give their opinions on the whole concept of wedding favours? Some couples have them. Some don't🤷🏻‍♀️

Anyway, I'm only here to see if there are any more photos of crocheted/felted animals. They are adorable! And I can understand how they would be a bit of fun and a talking point.

CaptainThe95thRifles · 21/01/2022 20:24

I have nothing to add to this thread other than another vote for those favours sounding bloody awesome and your guest is daft.

pigsDOfly · 21/01/2022 20:30

From some of the things I read about on MN that people get offended over I'm coming to the conclusion that I must have a very thick skin or I'm so stupid I've gone through my entire life not realising that people are trying to insult me left, right and centre.

How anyone could conclude that what the OP did was meant as a passive aggressive insult or that someone sending a woman a card with a cow on it has a hidden meaning is just beyond me.

To imagine anyone would take the time and effort to sit making little animals as wedding favours with the express purpose of insulting you is a whole other level of nuts.

Life must be very trying and miserable if you're constantly looking for, and finding, so many things to take offence at.

Totalwasteofpaper · 21/01/2022 20:32

This thread is so eye opening!!!

Before I got to the end of the OP I was like “awww sweet!! the bride gave the family a farmyard set for the families child to play with”

I would not be able to find offender in it. at all.

heelforheelandtoefortoe · 21/01/2022 20:34

who the fuck gives felt animals as a wedding favour?

FloatyBoaty · 21/01/2022 20:36

@MeredithGreyishblue

Ahhh. Glad to make you think of him. (Only the most excellent people say wazzock Wink)

GiltEdges · 21/01/2022 20:37

I'd have been insulted if I was your SIL in that situation too. I also don't believe it was easier to make a cow and a pig than e.g. a sheep, which doesn't have the same negative connotations 🤷🏼‍♀️

NotSoLittle · 21/01/2022 20:37

She sounds like hard work. Even if she didn't appreciate your gifts (which I think sound lovely) it's beyond rude to be confrontational on your wedding day (congrats BTW).

Re images etc of cows being "inappropriate" for a woman - I remember staying on a farm when I was a kid where they had Jersey cows - they were beautiful with the most luscious long eyelashes ...

Re pigs - I think they used to be regarded as lucky - I have 2 tiny wooden ones (the paints mostly peeled off) that an elderly friend of the family gave me when I was a kid and that's what they told me. I've also got another small china one with shamrocks on it - also well over 80 years old now.

So we have beautiful cows, lucky pigs and horses that are strong, beautiful, swift etc. Why do some people only see negatives?

Anyway, now I need some felt animals in my life...

Blondeshavemorefun · 21/01/2022 20:40

Def wouldn’t offend me

If you knew me in the real world you would have made me a bear

I think it’s lovely and original plus you also gave nice gifts

StarsAreWishes · 21/01/2022 20:42

I think the favours sound absolutely adorable and you SIL is being very weird.

CoffeeRunner · 21/01/2022 20:42

@stuntbubbles

Could you send her a follow-up gift to smooth things over? Several bats and a box of frogs.

OnceUponAMidnightBeery · 21/01/2022 20:50

That’s a brilliant idea OP, and your photo is soooo Ute! You must’ve spent ages on them too.

Still reading thread but just wanted to compliment you! Sounds like she’d have taken offence at anything:

Sheep: stupid
Cat: catty
Dog: bitch
Butterfly: airhead
Owl: egghead
Squirrel: nuts
Fox: sly

Don’t see how you could win!

And regardless, to kick off about it actually AT your wedding?? Rude AF!

Hesma · 21/01/2022 20:51

The bride is weird and asking for conflict. Surely there is something better than animals that she could have made like people’s initials. Very strange scenario and I could see why someone would be upset

ShinyHappyPoster · 21/01/2022 20:52

You say you get on ok with each other normally so I'm surprised you're looking for strangers on the internet to support you rather than apologising to her for upsetting her.
No-one else got upset on the day because they received gifts that were cute rather than animals that are used as insults. The other guests might have thought it was a passive aggressive insult too. If they're all asking each other what they got and she had to keep telling everyone she got a cow - well, that's going to get a bit wearing and awkward.

billy1966 · 21/01/2022 20:52

I also think they sound like such lovely personal favours.

I do however think favours themselves are wedding batshittery.

Don't allow this to take your peace.

Your SIL is a PITA and the best thing you can do is not give her any further oxygen.

Pull away, avoid, and enjoy your marriage.

Oh good grief- what a bonkers spin to put on it.

And as for the poster throwing a strop about getting a card with a cow on it- how ridiculous.

I'm sure some people would find the implication that they were sheep (not goats) or even 'sheeple' to be offensive if they put half a second's thought into it.

@heelforheelandtoefortoe

Op. And as this thread proves, lots of us would see it as a sweet memento not a psychological review or something intended to belittle us

What's wrong with animals? I'd rather a couple of felt animals in the bookcase shelf than my initials
Pixxie7 · 21/01/2022 21:01

This whole thing is crazy, a pig is the most intelligent animal, I think cows are beautiful as are horses, I think she meant well and too much is being read into it.

OnceUponAMidnightBeery · 21/01/2022 21:06

@GrumpyTerrier

God some people are bonkers. As if she thought that. If you gave her an octopus would she be kicking off "you sayin I've got too many arms???". Insane.

Also the people on here pouring scorn on your wonderful, thoughtful, personalised, quirky handmade gifts-- you miserable buggers, where is your joy?

This too! Well said @GrumpyTerrier
meemaww · 21/01/2022 21:06

What a bloomin’ lovely thing to do for your guests. I think your relatives need to get a grip and stop being so sensitive. It’s a felt toy ffs not a personal slight! You explained your reasoning, end of and have been nothing but kind. Don’t let her silly behaviour ruin your happiness 💕

PriamFarrl · 21/01/2022 21:08

Also, did wedding favours not used to be a thing?

I don’t remember them from my first wedding in the late 90s.
