wont pay for damage to my jeans

I actually needed new pants, so I bought 3 new pairs of mostly otton jeans that were the same on sale from a warehouse getting rid of old stock. The jeans are all one shade of blue so any marks would be obvious. I could've got cheaper jeans but I thought I'd treat myself. They no longer have the jeans in my size but are selling them or something similar on the original website for a similar amount.

Dog of a relative unexpectedly jumped up on me and scratched as soon as I got in the door. I didn't expect them to because last times I've come in they've not done that and I've gone in loads of times. I've had these jeans 2 days. The jeans haven't been torn but are damaged. You'd have to look at them to see the scratches. other marks they've made I'm not sure if it'd come out in the wash. This has effected the aesthetic of the jeans and they don't feel as special. They haven't had holes ripped in them so relative is refusing to replace them

TheMissingMango · 21/01/2022 12:41

Did you forget to wrap yourself in a giant protective plastic bubble before leaving the house?

ClariceQuiff · 21/01/2022 12:41

Whose house was it?

jimmyreckon · 21/01/2022 12:42

Pics or it didn't happen

Traumdeuter · 21/01/2022 12:42

I want this to be a reverse

PinkMoon22 · 21/01/2022 12:44

Wtf?

Fraine · 21/01/2022 12:44

I agree with you, the relative's dog damaged your clothing so the relative should replace them.

Who is this relative and do you do a lot for them? I'd be making myself less helpful to them.

I don't get these replies? Why shouldn't the dog owner pay for damage? I would.

GrapefruitPink · 21/01/2022 12:45

I'd take them to a small claims court

AlDanvers · 21/01/2022 12:46

A mark that didn't rip the jeans but is permanent.

You got them from a warehouse 'getting rid of old stock' bit want a replacement from the actual website?

And you reckon they are the same price. From the brand website and a warehouse trying to sell them off in a hurry?

PleasantBirthday · 21/01/2022 12:46

Explain your situation, I'm sure the householder will be glad to give you the tenner for your remainder jeans.

HRMtheQuern · 21/01/2022 12:47

Well they're in the wash at the moment but I'll take a picture tomorrow

I think some people think everyone should adore their dogs as much they do and bear the damage without complaint.

"The aesthetic of the jeans" "don't feel as special"

Said no one ever about warehouse factory clearance denim.

YABU and very precious imo.

VelvetChairGirl · 21/01/2022 12:48

I think you are being unreasonable for 2 reasons.

1 you chose to buy expensive jeans when jeans are all the bloody same and things like Levis last the same amount of time as TU from Sainsbury.

2 you choose to go round someones house while wearing them that you knew had a dog.

I would think differently if it was you was walking down the street friend walked past dog jumped up or stranger, but your post sounds like you went round their house or allowed them in yours thus there was an element of forward planning and risk assessment with a known situation i.e a dog would be there.

BoredatHome321 · 21/01/2022 12:48

might nominate for DHOTYA

What I mean is they're selling they'll be selling similar jeans on the original website. But the warehouse I got the jeans from has been selling them massively discounted because they're getting rid of old stock. The ones in the warehouse have sold out in my size. But relative wont want to pay full price

Relative is mil

Relative is mil

Well of course she is. Who else would it be?

arethereanyleftatall · 21/01/2022 12:51

No op, I wouldn't ask anyone to pay any damage for their dog jumping on me. It must have made for a very awkward conversation when you asked them to tbh, it's unusual. Unless we're talking pairs of jeans worth hundreds of pounds and you're on the bread line?

Laiste · 21/01/2022 12:51

Really? You'd try and get money out of a relative for a couple of marks on a pair of jeans (which might come out in the wash anyway) Shock

I hope you don't work in insurance.
SandyPanda · 21/01/2022 12:51

But have you logged it with the police? It's the law if it's your MILs houseGrin
