My husband and I were talking about this over dinner and I'm genuinely interested in people's answers (not looking to wind anyone up).

I live in Scotland so I’d vote for any party whatsoever if it was the party most likely to beat the snp in my constituency. But I wouldn’t if I had a choice, and I wouldn’t vote for any of the current cabinet if they were to succeed Boris, with the exception of Ben Wallace seems to know what he’s doing in defence. All of the rest of them are just unbelievablely appalling - it’s a joke!

FinallyFluid · 18/01/2022 23:10

Boris is a waste of sperm.

AnotherEmma · 18/01/2022 23:10

I have never and would never vote Tory.
I would rather eat my own faeces than vote for the Tory party led by Boris Johnson.

Hapoydayz · 18/01/2022 23:11

Yes I'd vote tory. The opposition parties are a very scary prospect in comparison.

thepeopleversuswork · 18/01/2022 23:12

Never have voted Tory. Whatever I think of the current Labour Party (not much), I am sure as hell not about to start at this moment.

BeMoreGoldfish · 18/01/2022 23:14

These threads are always so depressing. How anyone could think Johnson and his cabinet of wankers is our least worst option is beyond me. But then I’ve never, and would never, vote Tory. 🤷‍♀️

Kshhuxnxk · 18/01/2022 23:16

I'm Scotland so voted Tory mainly to deprive SNP. I won't be voting for anyone now which really frustrates me.

ashorterday · 18/01/2022 23:17

Why?
Muminabun · 18/01/2022 23:17

Yes as no alternative

DaisyTheUnicorn · 18/01/2022 23:18

I think Tory voters will still vote Tory as it ties in with their beliefs and they don't like the alternative 😔. It does make you wonder if anything would stop them voting Tory...

Solasum · 18/01/2022 23:18

I find it deeply saddening that the Conservatives in the current state they are are still the only viable option. How hard can it be to mount an opposition to this level of incompetence? And yet, I have no idea at all what Labour is about, and having initially been impressed by Keir Starmer now think he is a non entity. I think the only hope is if some of the many very good MPs who are currently lurking on the back benches throw their hats into the ring.

AnotherEmma · 18/01/2022 23:18

Surely there must be someone other than SNP and the Tories to vote for in Scotland?! Literally any other candidate?? Even if they're not likely to win, that's not the point. Vote for them anyway to show you prefer them to the main options.

TYTY4 · 18/01/2022 23:18

I won’t vote for them if Johnson is still the boss. However he won’t be. He will be gone by this time next week I reckon

Thirtytimesround · 18/01/2022 23:19

I could never vote for Boris (and I didn’t) but I live in a ‘safe’ Tory seat and I do get why people vote Tory.

  1. It’s a social / tribal thing. All the golf clubs / spa-gyms round here would find me very odd if I mentioned I don’t vote Tory.
  1. Candidates. Labour didn’t even bother to field a candidate in my area at the last election. When they do stand candidates, as we are ‘safe Tory’ we get the absolute dregs of the Labour pool. Usually someone very young and naive standing against someone very experienced and credible.
  1. Policies. I am very very uncomfortable voting Labour / Lib dem / Green as they all support the idea of biological men being able to self-certify as women and gaining access to all women’s spaces. Male crimes being recorded as being women’s crimes, rapists being sent to female prisons etc. I strongly disagree with this and actually only the Tories have done anything remotely rational on this issue. Plus Labour wants to shut private schools. Ffs. Is bad enough the local State option traumatised dd to the extent that I have to pay £50k for private, without even that option being taken away.

And um Jeremy Corbyn. Who I did actually vote for because of the alternative, but my god Corbyn would have made a terrible PM.

Veritat · 18/01/2022 23:19

No, I really cannot vote for a party led by Johnson.

No, I don't think it would. The last few years have shown that the Tories can basically get away with anything Sad

That's my hope too. I'm very middle ground. I did have high hopes for Starmer when he was elected leader, but he seems ineffective. He should be making hay at the moment but he isn't. So where does that leave us? The best we can hope for is new, fresh Tories to step up. I do think there must be some with moral fibre. The prospect of Truss or Sunak though, is awful.

I'll still be voting Conservative. I don't trust Labour with economy. Remember the note they left when leaving office last time, no money left. Just think back to Brown he had half of the country on to benefits. I don't like Sunak either. Not good choices ATM but Conservatives better than others.

Oh these threads. Realistically, how many Tories are going to come along and say they vote Tory just so people can start calling them, cunts, twats, heartless, disgusting, vile, etc etc.

Hopefully no one will do that. I won't be name calling. I'm really interested in what people are saying. Not trying to start a fight.

Also, I have friends that vote Tory. I don't, but that does not cause problems in our friendships.

Boris needs to go then the question becomes more realistic. None of this horrendous crap over the parties would have happened if Theresa May had still been at no 10. It's so depressing following politics right now....
