My husband and I were talking about this over dinner and I'm genuinely interested in people's answers (not looking to wind anyone up).

I would not vote for the bumbling clown, he is totally out of his depth.
A while back I would definitely have voted for Starmer but now I am tired of his immediate finger pointing and blaming without coming up with any plausible offerings.
We are stuffed.

SlipperTripper · 18/01/2022 23:35

The sheer entitlement of the current conservative government is sickening and I would hate to vote for them right now. It's been fuck up after fuck up and the Teflon tories in their current guise have lost any support from me.

That said, personally I don't feel their Labour's leader (or his front bench) is at all convincing, and I can't see how the country would fare under his (pretty blah) leadership.

Devil and the deep blue (red)? If I had to vote tomorrow, I would really, really struggle.

Nightlystroll · 18/01/2022 23:37

@bookworm1982. I too have friends on all sides of the political spectrum. I never met one person who wanted to make the country a worse place and in fact they share many of the same goals. (For example, I never heard any Tory friend say they wanted to get rid of the NHS but I read on here all the time that that's one of the reason people vote Con.) They just have a different ideas on which is the best way to get there. I sometimes think that people are misguided and downright wrong, but hey, who's to say its not me that's wrong? (Ridiculous, of course I'm not wrong! 😉) I have never called anyone an abusive name nor have been abused.

I don't say that you started the thread with anything other than good intentions, interested to hear another side, etc, and it's civilised so far but we're only on page one....

SinisterBumFacedCat · 18/01/2022 23:37

I’m not a Tory voter and doubt I ever will be but I do think there is more to a party than the leader, since they have been through quite a few recently anyway. Sadly I don’t think there will be significant change of government in my lifetime. Most Tories will vote for them whatever, trotting out the old line about them being good for the economy, when they are actually pretty terrible for the economy if you look at rising poverty and the cost of living, plus the fact that many of their policies are quick fixes that don’t take into account obvious forecast, but you know, no one wants a tax rise so here we are.

Nightlystroll · 18/01/2022 23:38

Oops page 2 and still seems civilised. Maybe I'm wrong. 🤞

MacNTosh · 18/01/2022 23:40

I’d never vote Tory. I’ve been a member of the Labour Party all my life until they started to follow a belief system that is open to abuse by predatory men. There has to be a better way of protecting both Women and the Trans community without leaving the door wide open for predatory men. There has to be a way to celebrate Trans women that doesn’t mean taking away from biological women and there has to be some discussion about male and female stereotypes.

I honestly don’t know who I’d vote for now.

gsaoej · 18/01/2022 23:44

I am not sure what you mean by "after everything Boris has done". Because his multiple women and undefined number of children, his theatrics over the Brexit bus and making people wait to see which side he would back, together with displaying jaw dropping arrogance and bullshitting over the past few decades were crystal clear prior to him being elected. As far as I am concerned, anything he has done after being elected (eg partying in lockdown) is exactly in line with what I would have expected given his past behaviour. With that in mind, anyone who voted for him before would have no reason not to do so again.

Furthermore, it depends who's in opposition. A large part of why lots of people voted for Boris was simply Corbyn. That was also evident from public interviews at the time.

Anyway I did not vote because I thought both were atrocious candidates.

Christoncrutches · 18/01/2022 23:45

@caringcarer

I'll still be voting Conservative. I don't trust Labour with economy. Remember the note they left when leaving office last time, no money left. Just think back to Brown he had half of the country on to benefits. I don't like Sunak either. Not good choices ATM but Conservatives better than others.
This is just nonsense - I'm not even a Labour voter, but the 'no money left' note has been misrepresented to a ridiculous degree. Byrne expressed it in a crass manner in the note, but we were teetering on the brink of a GLOBAL DEPRESSION. The recession caused money borrowing to keep public services functioning and the long term plan Labour drew up as a result was the very same that the Tories rolled out.

I read an independent university study examining the performance of Conservative and Labour administrations in terms of real GDP growth in the United Kingdom and they were largely the same with a slight advantage to Labour due to better handling of recessions.

Houseofvelour · 18/01/2022 23:46

I have never and will never vote Tory. I can't stand the bare faced lies that come from that mop head in charge and I've been appalled by the fact that they claimed they would offer billions to the NHS to get it through covid but nothing has materialised.
That being said, with Keir Starmer leading Labour, I wouldn't have much faith in them either. He has a lot to say but doesn't appear to back it up with any action.

If we needed to vote tomorrow, I'd probably vote Green just because. 🤷‍♀️

Dasher789 · 18/01/2022 23:49

@AnotherEmma

Surely there must be someone other than SNP and the Tories to vote for in Scotland?! Literally any other candidate?? Even if they're not likely to win, that's not the point. Vote for them anyway to show you prefer them to the main options.
And risk another independence 'mandate' , no thank you, I will vote whoever has the biggest chance of keeping the snp out
Holskey · 18/01/2022 23:51

Yes @Christoncrutches!

The Tories had remarkable success convincing the country that Labour trashed the economy and that they would be so much better. It's such nonsense and I can't believe anyone still believes it.

Christoncrutches · 18/01/2022 23:53

I am constantly amazed that English people consistently vote for a party of utter fuds who give no shits about anyone but themselves. It's a collective madness that never seems to end - what do they have to do for people to wake up.

Keir Starmer is a bit 'blah'? So fucking what! He's not Boris Johnson. Surely a below par Labour Party is still preferable over this craven and corrupt shower of fuckwits... Why is the standard so high for Labour and so low for Tories?

I don't think I'll ever understand it.

DdraigGoch · 18/01/2022 23:53

I'm pretty sure that there will be a new leader by the next election, and I'm not going to harbour a grudge against someone who wasn't implicated or complicit in these parties. Truss seems like the frontrunner at the moment and at least she has had the guts to unequivocally state the bleeding obvious: "women do have vaginas", which is something that the Shadow Cabinet and senior figures in all of the other mainstream parties struggle with. My local MP engages well with constituents. In general, I find little to tempt me to vote for other parties. I live under a Labour administration here in Wales and it's crap.

Christoncrutches · 18/01/2022 23:57

@Holskey

Yes *@Christoncrutches*!

If it's said enough it becomes true - proper Donald Trump, Hitler shizz!

I blame the lack of left and centre leaning tabloids - your average bod gets their info from the same shitty rags that want you to vote Tory.

Labour definitely have to work harder as a result.

DarknessAndLight · 18/01/2022 23:58

Many people are quite centralist in their views but have leanings towards the left or right, I find. I have friends who vote labour and conservative.
I lean towards the Tories because of labours lacking. Specifically women’s rights and pushing of restrictions in the pandemic.

Never have and never would vote Tory. Its mind boggling how anybody could vote Tory when they thought Boris Johnson was their best candidate for the job of PM. Ever after all his deceit, proven lies, dodging interviews and 'Peppa pig' nonsense some still back him!

I sincerely hope SNP continue in power in Scotland and I hope England wakes up to the nightmare they have inflicted on the UK.

DreamingofTimbuktu · 19/01/2022 00:08

It’s self interest.- when people say they don’t trust the Labour with the economy they mostly ( obviously not all) mean they’d pay more income tax and crucially inheritance tax under a Labour government and don’t want to.

noblegiraffe · 19/01/2022 00:12

How can anyone think the Tories can be trusted with the economy? Rishi just wrote off £4.5 billion of fraudulent covid business loans claims. V careless with our money. Happy to hand it to their mates though.

Cost of living, petrol, energy bills. All a nightmare.

Christoncrutches · 19/01/2022 00:14

@Ionlydomassiveones - I read the thread and the reasons given were bananas. What political history do you suggest I read that justifies Boris Johnson and his army of self-interested twats? Am poised for your wisdom....

Pat123dev · 19/01/2022 00:16

I m not a fan of Boris just now. But I would vote Tory, party antics and lies from both parties- I believe they build stronger foundations for the country. Although- I was actually probably be better off financially under a labour government, it doesn't provide for the future.

roarfeckingroarr · 19/01/2022 00:17

Yes.

I'll always vote for the lowest tax party.

Christoncrutches · 19/01/2022 00:17

BULLSEYE.

A few folk I know also vote tory because they think it's socially upwardly mobile to do so. Even if it means stripping the resources they depend on.

Madness.

Not to antagonise, but what does that actually MEAN? Is it just a feeling, or a solid, tangible thing? Genuinely interested...
giggly · 19/01/2022 00:21

@Mountaingoat12

I live in Scotland so I’d vote for any party whatsoever if it was the party most likely to beat the snp in my constituency. But I wouldn’t if I had a choice, and I wouldn’t vote for any of the current cabinet if they were to succeed Boris, with the exception of Ben Wallace seems to know what he’s doing in defence. All of the rest of them are just unbelievablely appalling - it’s a joke!
you’d vote for the tories in Scotland to oppose the SNP. Did you actually pay any attention to the years of disrespect and arse wiping to the Scottish voters by the Tory party. Why not just not vote , keep them fuckers out is Scotland
