I know this is predominantly
A UK site but I am so full of rage .
Beautiful young girl. 23 year old teacher went for a run at 4pm beaten to death.yesterday afternoon .
What can we do to stop this relaxed attitude to violence against women. We are all hurting here.
AIBU to think that violence against some. Women ever ever be fucking taken seriously .
110 convictions and out on bail murder Ed Ashling on a run way called after another woman who was brutally murdered there.
I'm full
Of sadness and fucking rage . I'm

A teacher and musician. A beautiful woman's life taken. Murdered. How fucking dare he take her life!

KronkeyCroc · 13/01/2022 22:35

It’s just so unbelievably sad. That poor girl. And her poor family. I can’t even begin to imagine how devastated they must feel. Just out for a run.

Made me think twice about my planned run tomorrow and should I stick to the main roads instead of the woods. A man would never have to think like that.

Allusernamesalreadyused · 13/01/2022 22:39

All of Ireland is in mourning tonight. Both men and women. It's horrific to think that this can happen to a young woman in prime of her life. A beautiful kind individual taken from her heartbroken family.
We need to look urgently at a justice system that allows someone with so many violent convictions to roam freely looking for next victim. He will no doubt also get free legal aid. Thats way it goes in Ireland. Why wasn't he deported back to Romania when he clearly didn't want live by civilised rules. He must have had a history in Romania too-have we any control over type of people coming into our country. I would absolutely say the same if it was an Irish person treating society in another country like this. Am sickened to the core😢.
We will all light a candle at 4:30pm tomorrow afternoon in Ashlings memory. #shewasjustgoingonarun😔

goodyear2021 · 13/01/2022 22:53

Please do
Remember her tomorrow please

The person in custody has been released and is no longer a suspect according to reports tonight.
This shows we shouldn't jump to any conclusions until the evidence is there. This guy is a vile violent person but not in the frame for this. Somewhere somebody equally as violent and evil has got 24 hours head start.

goodyear2021 · 13/01/2022 23:13

Fuck

goodyear2021 · 13/01/2022 23:14

That poor young woman - such loss and pain for so many of her friends and family. Such a dreadful thing to happen to her. Have thought about her lots today.

@GrazingSheep

I hope they catch the perpetrator.

They have.

They haven't. Don't say they have until there is proper evidence and not just speculation
CliffsofMohair · 13/01/2022 23:18

Man held by Gardai released without charge tonight.

ClareBlue · 13/01/2022 23:22

The stretch of pathway she was exercising on is known as the Fiona Pender way, which is named after a women who went missing in Ireland. And nothing changes. RIP

Allusernamesalreadyused · 13/01/2022 23:23

But two women came across him attacking her and he fled. How can this happen that he's not the perpetrator? I'm so confused. So who was this guy at scene? And is the murderer on the run. OMG I don't believe it😔

Allusernamesalreadyused · 13/01/2022 23:25

Oh no. Was there two of them together but one did the attack? I'm sorry to go on but just so upset by this and fact he might get away

immersivereader · 13/01/2022 23:26

The men need to stand up.

When will they?

Men? You there?

JuneOsborne · 13/01/2022 23:27

Why do some men hate women so very much? What's that all about. I just don't get it. We're their mothers and sisters and daughters. We are no threat, to their lives, their jobs.

So sad.

Rip.

immersivereader · 13/01/2022 23:28

No fear that bastard would take down a 6'5' big man . Pity he didn't .

^

Yeah they never pick on the men do they? Wonder why

MmeSosostris · 13/01/2022 23:31

They gave a description of a man who fled. No indication more than one. The Guards picked up the guy with the 110 convictions but he has a tight alibi. That's a combination of eye witness accounts being difficult under traumatic conditions, an inherent bias that has been shown on this site and is endemic in law enforcement, and general shock and desire to get the bastard. But at least they haven't tried to make up evidence to fit the narrative which has been done plenty of times by police forces under pressure in the past, like Guilford, Birmingham for example, or our own Baby Kerry case
mishmased · 13/01/2022 23:38

RIP Aishling Thanks

On my way back from collecting my kids from school, I saw a lady in her twenties on a run, I slowed down and in my mind I said 'be safe' to myself. So sad.

They've released him.

This is so worrying.

Bernadette Connolly still missing from Swords, last seen on the beach between Malahide and Donabate.

ClareBlue · 13/01/2022 23:42

This is the first really high profile case Drew Harris has had as top cop. He's a person of integrity so it will be investigated right.
None of this is any comfort to the devasted family and community and for the whole Island but the person who did this has to be caught.
The devistation one person can cause by their actions is almost incomprehensive

Tealightsandd · 13/01/2022 23:48

What can we do to stop this relaxed attitude to violence against women.

No panacea but a good start would be to treat every murder as equally shocking - and take constructive action to prevent them from happening.

This terribly sad case has made headlines as if it's rare for a woman to be murdered.

In the UK, two to three women a week are murdered by a current or ex partner. I should imagine it's a similar figure in the ROI.

Hollyhobbi · 14/01/2022 00:01

I'm also in Ireland and my daughter is also 23, finished college and started her first job. I also have a photo of my daughter similar to Ashlings photo in the red dress. I'd say it was taken before her Debs just like my daughters was. We have friends who live a couple of miles from Tullamore town. It's just dreadful. RIP Ashling💐
