Beautiful young girl. 23 year old teacher went for a run at 4pm beaten to death.yesterday afternoon .
What can we do to stop this relaxed attitude to violence against women. We are all hurting here.

But even just in the simplest daily interactions with other people, women are able to just be normal. So many men cannot mange going about their daily business in a respectful way. It's bizarre how much of their behaviour is tolerated.

Lads in general accept mysoginistic banter even if deep down they don't agree. Many fear not being part of the pack or being called a wimp or gay when with a hetero group. The pack mentality along with what they believe is an inherent right to cat call, ask for a smile, you know be eye candy for me, I deserve it.

The man under police watch in hospital will be arrested as soon as the funeral is over. Might be a local connection. That man has a partner and kids according to a report I read over the weekend. Can't remember where though, as the media is awash with this.

halfpasteleven · 18/01/2022 14:50

Just received a notification from RTE news that an arrest has been made.
It doesn't go into any other detail.
I really hope this is the time for justice

CaveMum · 18/01/2022 15:04

Please no speculation.
I don't want anything written or said anywhere that might lead to a murderer getting off because a top barrister ( probably paid by us taxpayers ) argues that their client hasn't got a fair trial because they were subjected to trial by media / social media.

PleasantBirthday · 18/01/2022 17:19

Let's just hope they have the right person under arrest and that he gets what he deserves.

CliffsofMohair · 18/01/2022 21:05

Michael D and Sabina seem so warm and kind. I’m in tears watching the funeral coverage on the news.

LadyEloise1 · 18/01/2022 21:35

@CliffsofMohair
You're not alone. DH and I had something in our eye too. When we saw her class in the guard of honour. What must be going through their wee minds. How can they process what happened. That there is such a thing as the bogeyman ?
I do hope they get the counselling they will need.
May Ashling rest in peace and may her loved ones find some solace.

Sportslady44 · 19/01/2022 00:21

So sad and so unnecessary what was the point?

Why do that

LadyEloise1 · 19/01/2022 14:02

Also on the news last night. A mother and father found guilty of the sexual abuse, sexual exploitation and neglect of their children got 9 years and 15 years respectively. Aunts and uncles were involved too.
You can actually halve their sentences because of the Irish justice system.
The sentencing got little coverage.
Instead the media wholly invested in the funeral of Ashling.
The sentencing to my mind is utterly appalling.
Why are journalists not covering this ?
Sad

Mumsnet can you please delete this thread now as its sub justice.

honeyrider · 20/01/2022 02:13

The way so many people are carrying on may lead the defence team to claim he wont get a fair trial.
