Does anyone really believe that Boris Johnson has suddenly had to go into isolation? How many times over the past months has he blithely disregarded various rules and guidelines as it suited his agenda? Now he's under a bit of well-deserved pressure, and oops-a-daisy! he's in isolation.

The really depressing thing - about Trump in America, Boris Johnson here, and crass right-wing populist idiocracy in general, is that it will have no effect on voters, bar a little disgruntled muttering. We've created a society in which the scum, not the cream, rises to the top. I dread to think what the next couple of decades are going to be like.

Would you agree to me that any MP, or indeed member of the House of Lords who knowingly accepts or seeks to accept money from overseas is not fit to be in our parliament?

Barry Gardiner is saying that Christine Lee is a British citizen - who did you have in mind?

@Clavinova It was more by way of hypothetical question.

I don't think MPs should accept money from overseas. Do you agree with me?

I am glad that finally you have had time in your busy working schedule to watch the briefing.

I thought you meant your clip - I watched that.

RubyViolet · 13/01/2022 20:00

@JaniieJones

Why tf would he be hiding? I bet he'd quite like to comment to the rabid telly reporters on Labour and their Chinese Communist party spy. I mean that is a story isn't it.
She also met with David Cameron and got an award from Theresa May.

@Clavinova The clip is from the 20th May 2020 briefing. What was said in it about meeting those you do not live with outdoors?
DuncinToffee · 13/01/2022 20:03

30 supermarket employees having a byob gathering? Hope you reported that like Pritti Patel urged us to do.

Clavinova · 13/01/2022 20:05

I don't think MPs should accept money from overseas. Do you agree with me?

I thought overseas electors were allowed and UK registered businesses.

Clavinova · 13/01/2022 20:07

I think I remember Laura Kuenssberg tweeting that staff meetings were encouraged to be outdoors.

@Clavinova Sorry, I was not clear enough for you to understand. Is it acceptable for MPs to take money from people who have no vote in UK elections.

I should have thought it was clear that I didn't mean service personnel stationed overseas couldn't send a donation to a political party if they wanted to.

sadpapercourtesan · 13/01/2022 20:09

It's not truly a thread criticising the government until Clav shows up to smooth the waters with a dose of eye-twitching Panglossian reassurance Grin

As you were, folks. Just Boris being Boris. And have you heard about the spy in the Labour Party?!?!

@JaniieJones

'That is a dead cat'

MI5 investigating a CCP spy who have given thousands to Labour is not a dead cat, it is very fucking serious. More so than wallpaper and work place gatherings.

Hi Carrie

I can’t believe people are still trying to defend this. Come on, it’s done.
100 people invited to byob in the garden - if it walks like a duck & it quacks like a duck…

Is it acceptable for MPs to take money from people who have no vote in UK elections

Do you mean EU citizens donating to Lib Dem MPs to stop Brexit?

@Clavinova I mean do you think it is acceptable for people who are not able to vote in UK elections to pay our MPs?

@clavinova while you are here. What did Oliver Dowden say about meeting people outdoors in the May 20th 2020 Downing Street briefing?

Clavinova · 13/01/2022 20:16

And have you heard about the spy in the Labour Party?!?!

According to Barry Gardiner he only found out this morning. Wink Wink

Has anyone mentioned about self-ID or it would be worse under Jeremy Corbyn yet? Grin

Yes he is a coward. I'm sure if the going was good he'd be ignoring it, but now having to isolate is useful to him.

I just wish he'd isolate permanently.

Given his love of being in fridges, could we send him to Siberia?

I mean do you think it is acceptable for people who are not able to vote in UK elections to pay our MPs?

I don't know the rules - didn't some Hungarian chap donate a lot of money to stop Brexit?

What did Oliver Dowden say about meeting people outdoors in the May 20th 2020 Downing Street briefing?

He wasn't saying that only 2 teachers could stand on a school field at one time. And I clearly saw 5 dancers from the Lion King tour jumping on the beach in the Daily Mail photos from 20 May 2020.

Whitefire · 13/01/2022 20:24

jgw it was a work meeting so all was fine, nothing to see there. It was just a show of total dedication to their job that they stayed after work to have the meeting. Obviously as it was late they would need to eat and drink as well. As it was so warm it just made more sense to sit outside.

So all is good, it was just a meeting.

or something like that

@Clavinova I wasn't asking what the rules say about donations to MPs, I was asking whether in your opinion it is acceptable for someone from overseas who is not able to vote in a UK election to give money to an MP.

@clavinova. I wasn't asking what Oliver Dowden didn't say. I am well aware for example that he didn't say that he loved Peppa Pig land.

I was asking what he did say about meeting people you did not live with outdoors on 20th May 2020.

@Clavinova so you accept that it could be a spy? Are you outraged that an MP is being paid by a Chinese company that could be a spy?
HTH1 · 13/01/2022 20:29

Don’t be so silly, he’s not hiding anywhere (I just saw him at the wine and cheese party, he says hi).

PerkingFaintly · 13/01/2022 20:29

Hardly a spy but yet again, the media jump on this but do not on Russian links to the Tory party.....

Yy! I'm delighted the Boris Bunch have been so rash!Grin

Now the Chinese donor has been made a story, it'll be open season to talk about the Russians!

I don't care about the party politics in this; we need to know about Russian influence whichever route they take. But discussion has been stifled because it's the Tories in power at the moment and so many are involved, directly or indirectly (or are scared of Aaron Banks & pals' Leave crew, who are rather more cuddly with Russia than is healthy).

By tossing out this dead cat, the Boris Bunch have blown more than the bloody doors off!

It's the Owen Paterson Fail 2.0.Grin
