AIBU to think that Boris should resign now?

Seemslikeagoodidea · 11/01/2022 17:45

Today it has been revealed that in May 2020 invitations were emailed to (allegedly) 100 Downing Street staff, for a garden party. This party happened during the first lockdown, when many people could not visit their elderly relatives, even on their death beds, due to the lockdown rules. The email was sent by one of the PM's top people, and stated that people should "bring their own booze and enjoy the sunshine". Today Boris has been conspicuous by his absence.

I think this is the final straw and shows a lack of judgement and absence of moral fibre. Enough is enough - he should resign and if he doesn't do it then his own party should force him to go.

AIBU?

Also the PM has legal advisors there all the time. The PM was apparently advised by Cummings it was not legal.

Spudina · 11/01/2022 18:44

He should but he won’t. When the time comes, he will have to be dragged out of Number 10 kicking and screaming. Kier Starner is crap opposition and the Tories are spineless. We are stuck with him.

TimBoothseyes · 11/01/2022 18:46

@BrambleRoses

While I am not a fan of the conservatives I do think it should be noted that this has been condemned even within Johnson’s own party.
The backbenchers yes, the cabinet however, have been very quiet about the whole thing. Where is the condemnation from Sunak, Javid, Truss, Raab and the rest of them. Cowards, the lot of them.
Cam77 · 11/01/2022 18:46

@Pikaso
Britain was never better the past half decade than when we had a Labour government. Of course, the Iraq war was atrocious, but the UK itself was far, far better on basically every single metric.

LadyCatStark · 11/01/2022 18:48

Yes but there won’t be any consequences. I really don’t know why people aren’t more angry!

user1471428785 · 11/01/2022 18:48

@Cam 77 Couldn't agree more.

Mountaingoat12 · 11/01/2022 18:51

Boris Johnson should go definitely. I have voted Tory in the past, but the current cabinet are the worst, the very worst. Just all such a bunch of lying , inept thickos. Who are the proposed replacements? Rishi who is good at spending our money but seems he’ll bent on upping taxes on the working and not pensioners, and - dear god what have we done to deserve Mrs Pork Markets - Liz Truss! All so horrifically corrupt. Patel, Rab, Hancock. Awful, awful people.

Thedogscollar · 11/01/2022 18:51

He is beyond contempt. Angry
His supporters cannot and should not support him or excuse him anymore.
This surely is the final nail in his coffin.

MrsDThomas · 11/01/2022 18:53

If course he should go. He’s an absolute cunt.

ItsSnowJokes · 11/01/2022 18:53

He should, like a lot of them. Will he? Not a hells chance.

rosie1959 · 11/01/2022 18:53

Timboothseyes there in an inquiry underway they are probably not allowed to comment

PastMyBestBeforeDate · 11/01/2022 18:53

The most ridiculous thing is that public money is going to be spent on an enquiry into this when they could just tell the truth. Everybody believes these parties happened, everybody believes the PM was there and he could have just admitted it and apologised but instead we've got to pay for an enquiry that he hopes will stall things long enough that he'll be able to brush it under the expensive carpet.

millymae · 11/01/2022 18:58

In my view - yes he should. If he was a half decent person he would have done so already.
Equally I think Tony Blair should decline his appointment as a Lord. It seems to me that most politicians whatever their political persuasion are tarred with the same brush.

catgirl1976 · 11/01/2022 18:59

Yes he should go but any of his potential replacements are just as corrupt and repellant. Although In different ways.

NiceShrubbery · 11/01/2022 18:59

@Cam77

He should stay and make the Tories completely unelectable.

The Tories will never be "completely unelectable" in Britain as
A) first past the post. So power is achievable by approx just 35% of those vote. Bribing around 1 in 5 adults with tax cuts etc will always be doable.
B) they have 80% of the media in their pockets, pushing the angles they want pushed and ignoring the bad stuff. even the BBC is now completely cowed by the threat of removing the license fee.

FPTP can Fuck. Off.

Fight him. An email or tweet takes just a few seconds. Your MPs' inboxes should be fucking exploding. Don't just sit there.

codexa · 11/01/2022 19:06

He is relying on the tut tutting and rage of a few, and the inertia/stupidity of the majority.

I completely agree.

PigeonLittle · 11/01/2022 19:16

I'm disgusted

BoredZelda · 11/01/2022 19:16

What’s absolutely ridiculous is, with everything he has done, from a badly handled pandemic to billions wasted in contracts to his buddies, people are going fucking nuts about a party he might have been to and that is why he should leave.

What a fucking world.

Bucanarab · 11/01/2022 19:18

Yes, but who will take over?

Literally anyone would do at this point.

Leaving Boris in charge is the equivalent of walking into the cockpit of your plane, finding a duck in the pilots seat, and saying "well, the duck's there now so let's just see how it does".

Actually, I think a duck might be a better option than Boris, it would certainly be more presentable and coherent anyway.

NiceShrubbery · 11/01/2022 19:18

@codexa

He is relying on the tut tutting and rage of a few, and the inertia/stupidity of the majority.
Yeah well don't let him. Get angry ffs. Get him out before we turn into Russia. The lunatics really have taken over the asylum.
BoredZelda · 11/01/2022 19:20

but the UK itself was far, far better on basically every single metric.

…and then we went in to recession after the largest banking crisis, which if the government had implemented more stringent banking oversight rather than removing regulations, we could have been far more protected from. If they had made some hay whilst the sun was shining rather than just taking the spoils of the boom created by the poor banking practices and spending it, the global recession would not have hit us so hard.

PickAChew · 11/01/2022 19:21

@onlyconnect

What I feel most disgusted by is how he handled the previous wind and cheese allegations, knowing that this had taken place too.
I do find that wind and cheese go together for me, though not in that order.

More seriously, I reckon there's some unrest in the ranks, with party members concerned that this could harm the party's prospects at the next election, if he stays in. He would never resign, though. He's too fucking arrogant.

BoredZelda · 11/01/2022 19:23

The Tories will never be "completely unelectable" in Britain as

They are completely unelectable in Scotland and have been for decades. Not since 1959, has Scotland voted Tory.

Hesperatum · 11/01/2022 19:24

TulipsGarden It’s not the damage to the Conservative party I’m concerned about, it’s the damage to the country and its reputation. This Conservative government is completely corrupt. Johnson should be kicked out. The whole lot should go, and quickly too. We can only hope.
