Weird message sent from boyfriend's phone

I don't know what the heck is going on here.

I don't live with my BF.

This morning I got a message saying: "Good morning, good luck, have fun, night night".

So I sent: "?" in reply.

These are all things he would probably text me throughout the day. I thought at first that he was being grumpy with me. I've not had a lot of time recently and this tends to be the pattern of his messages. We say morning, I say how busy I am, he says good luck, we have a chat in the evening, he says have fun (if watching a TV series or going somewhere with DD) and then we say night. I tend to only see him at the weekends. So, I thought he was being a bit sarcastic (as in sending the day's messages all in one go and maybe being a bit grumpy - as in - "this is all we ever say to each other" iyswim.

An hour later, I get this message: "POF Username39". The username was his email name. The 39 is the area we live (not in UK).

My next message was: "What are you trying to say? Are you on POF?"

I've had no response.

What the hell is going on? I know you don't have the answers, but I could do with a bit of support. I think he's about to tell me he's cheating or dumping me, or maybe the woman he's with got hold of his phone and it was her way of telling me. I tried to ring him, but he didn't answer.

I have a load of work to do tonight. I missed a deadline today because of this. I've been so upset.

Can anyone else get on POF?

MadeForThis · 11/01/2022 18:33

Can you reach him without using his mobile?

Winterjoy · 11/01/2022 18:33

@Mikeythecat

Me: Hi, why aren't you replying to me? Do you want to talk to me or not? Him: Hi, how are you? What can I do for you? Me: I'm not so good. Why have you been sending me unusual messages? What's going on? Him: I'm not good either. Sorry for the messages. Have a good evening! Me: Can you tell me what's happening, please?

Then nothing. That's it. His messages are so weird!

I'm not sodding begging him. I thought that maybe my profile is still on there or something and he's found it and that's why I can't get onto it? Because my email address is already registered or something? I thought I'd cancelled it, but maybe not. It was years ago. But say it is, it means he's been back on and seen me. I haven't been on it. I can't even get on it.

I don't know what to do next. I've got so much work to do and I'm moving and I just want to cry and cry.

Sorry I quoted this but it didn't show. This was the conversation I was referring to.
SassyGirl79 · 11/01/2022 18:34

Can you locate an old email from when you were on POF? maybe that’s how you could see if your account is still there?
Like another user said it could be not what I’m thinking and I hope not, Good luck xx

KurtWilde · 11/01/2022 18:35

Yeah those responses are weird especially as they're out of character. Unless he's pissed off for an as yet undisclosed reason. In which case he needs to either say what's up, or you let him stew because you know you've done nothing wrong.

Elieza · 11/01/2022 18:35

It has to be a hacker surely?
That’s why I’m suggesting go to his house and see wtf is going on.

Nobody says ‘How can I help you’ except perhaps a bot or a hacker who doesn’t speak English as a first language.

Or the phones doing predictive text as he’s sitting on it unlocked or something.

Go round. Then you’ll know. There’s no point in texting as you’ll get more of the same madness.

Pedalpushers · 11/01/2022 18:36

It sounds like a bot hacking his phone to me.

MorkandMandy · 11/01/2022 18:37

Oh yeah actually considering the first one too - isn’t that just four generic custom responses you can pick?

ikeepseeingit · 11/01/2022 18:37

Those texts definitely read like a bot. Has his old account been hacked or his phone stolen maybe?

HaveringWavering · 11/01/2022 18:37

No, imagine it said through pursed lips to someone who to your mind has done something terrible and then comes to you wanting to chat. When you think that they are fully aware of what they have done but want you to act all normal. It’s that.

LadyCatStark · 11/01/2022 18:38

Yeah the first message sounds sarcastic and the “what can I do for you?” sounds so distant. Is he trying to ghost you?

Wam90 · 11/01/2022 18:38

Have you ever had any concerns about his mental health? Sounds like his weird messages may be a bit of a health crisis.

specialsauce · 11/01/2022 18:39

Has he lost his phone? It sounds like someone messing about on his phone.

I'd go round to his house and get to the bottom of it

RandomCatGenerator · 11/01/2022 18:39

Do you have any other means of contacting him? Can you try a sibling or mutual friend or something, see if they can get hold of him and say it’s an urgent personal matter?

MadeForThis · 11/01/2022 18:39

Could he just be pretending there is a fault with his phone to explain the first texts?

TheChip · 11/01/2022 18:39

"Hi Bob. I am getting some pretty odd text messages from you, so weird that I'm wondering if maybe you have been hacked? I have tried calling but there is no answer. It sounds like the messages are trying to tell me that you are on pof. Are you?"

FoxgloveSummers · 11/01/2022 18:40

Good suggestion from a PP - text his friend/mum/housemate and ask if they've had any strange messages from him today as you are worried.

LittleMissTeacup · 11/01/2022 18:41

There is sometime bot like about these messages to me too. Can you actually speak to him in person or via phone?

Pumperthepumper · 11/01/2022 18:42

It sounds like a bot.

gerardsbutler · 11/01/2022 18:43

It’s sounds like he’s been hacked.

KatyRebecca84 · 11/01/2022 18:43

If I was getting these messages out of the blue from someone I’d been with that long, I’d be round there in a shot! Check he’s ok and if so, ask wtf he’s on about!

KurtWilde · 11/01/2022 18:45

Me too, otherwise I'd drive myself potty trying to forget it/figure it out on repeat.
snapple21 · 11/01/2022 18:45

Deffo sounds like someone's taken his phone.

DoTheyKnowItsLemonJuice · 11/01/2022 18:48

Came back to say his messages really sound like AI-generated text, but I see that everyone else has already suggested this.

I didn’t know a bot could be used in personal texting. I only really know about bots in the context of social media and customer service.

Really sorry — how distressing this must be for you.

icelollycraving · 11/01/2022 18:48

I think it sounds like a bot. Does he have a landline?
