Would you rather be married to an anti-vaxxer or a smoker?

A random conversation I started with DH this morning. He is neither!!!

I think it would depend a little on whether the antivaxxer would prevent my DC being vaccinated. Can that happen?

'If you replace “anti vaccer” with any other minority term, you venture into hate speech'

Hate speech Confused.

Those refusing vaccines should just stfu and thank those that have stepped up thus allowing us to return to normal. Sadly they wang on at length about a whole load of bollocks and make themselves look very silly.

Daenerys77 · 11/01/2022 10:54

Neither. Marriage implies cohabitation and sex, neither of which would be tolerable for me with someone who gives off that ashtray odour; it also implies the possibility of reproduction and I really wouldn't want to breed or raise children with an idiot.

LittleGwyneth · 11/01/2022 10:56

Smoker. At least smoking looks cool.

CaptainHammer · 11/01/2022 11:00

Neither but if I really had to choose it would be smoker. I’d hope they would eventually give up. Anti vaxxers there’s no changing that crazy

'Smoker. At least smoking looks cool.'

Smoking looks as far away from cool as it gets imo and it stinks.

I could never be with a smoker, I don't even like being too near to them because of the smell. I'd really rather not be with an antivaxxer, if you mean the kind of person who is against all vaccinations on principle, but on balance I'd choose that rather because at least I wouldn't be physically repulsed by being close to them.

If you mean someone who hasn't taken one specific vaccine for personal non-medical reasons I wouldn't be thrilled but I wouldn't mind too much.

If you mean someone who supports the covid vaccination programme and is vaccinated but opposes vaccine mandates and vaccine passports then I'd agree with them.

The trouble with the question is that in the last year or so the word antivaxxer is applied to a lot of different people with different views. To me it means the kind of person who won't get their children the MMR vaccine in case it gives them autism but that's not always what people mean by it now.

Flowersandhearts · 11/01/2022 11:09

An anti-vaxer but there'd be no way I'd listen to him or let him decide whether any kids we had would be vaccinated or not!!

I wouldn't want to marry a smoker as I wouldn't want to lose someone I loved to a preventable cancer or cope with years of witnessing him suffer COPD or similar.

StrifeOfBath · 11/01/2022 11:13

Smoker, as long as they always went outdoors to smoke.

I have never smoked, but smokers do gain pleasure from smoking, as I do from eating chocolate and ice cream. Also, they are probably addicted. Smoking isn’t an indication of intelligence, character, values, etc.

But, IMO, and I stress IMO only, others are welcome to their views, anti-vaxxers are to stupid for me to consider a relationship with.

QueBarbaridad · 11/01/2022 11:15

A smoker like Barack Obama. Did he eventually give up?

DrinkFeckArseBrick · 11/01/2022 11:15

Smoker. They don't start conversations every 2 mins about how you're a sheep for not smoking and use illogical arguments based on heresy to try and persuade you that they're in the right. Plus there is a lot of help available to quit smoking

loloballlolo · 11/01/2022 11:18

I think antivaxxers tend to have other dangerous views (prone to conspiracy theories, wacky ideas and fundamentalist beliefs) which as a whole would be much harder to live with - so definitely a smoker!! They also tend to be very set in their ways and brainwashed! Avoid!

TobyMory · 11/01/2022 11:21

Most people refusing the covid vaccine are not anti vaxxers. I have had all mine but I do feels it’s unfair to put this label on everyone who hasn’t been vaccinated against covid.

PassingByAndThoughtIdDropIn · 11/01/2022 11:23

Some smokers do bang on about how it's their god given right to smoke in pubs and it's their taxes which fund the NHS and their granny smoked eighty a day until she was ninety five and got run over by a bus though. I'd give them a hard swerve.

CornishGem1975 · 11/01/2022 11:28

Antivaxxer. Smoking is grim grim grim. I would be physically repulsed.

thepeopleversuswork · 11/01/2022 11:38

A smoker, marginally, but given the choice I'd duck both of them. My exH was a heavy smoker and I hated it and his refusal to quit or even cut down was one of (several) reasons why I stopped wanting to be married to him.

But a rabid antivaxxer would be a total dealbreaker every time. Stupid and bullying are not a good combination.

steppemum · 11/01/2022 11:40

emotionally - a smoker, as they know it is bad for them and I couldn't bear any of the stupid conversations with anti vaxxers in my relationship.

I want to be with someone you can have proper conversations with.

But then I thought about kissing a smoker and.....

no.

So I would LTB if they were either.

Same here.
StrifeOfBath · 11/01/2022 12:49

@Momicrone

Smoking isn't a sign of intelligence
And where exactly did anyone say it was?
Chely · 11/01/2022 12:50

Anti-vaxxer is preferable to a smoker for me

shouldistop · 11/01/2022 13:41

@PlanktonsComputerWife

Smokers. They have sexy voices.

Hard to sound sexy when you're on a ventilator.

Confused
User1isnotavailable · 11/01/2022 14:16

Neither.

HikingforScenery · 11/01/2022 14:20

Definitely not a smoker. Yuck. The thought of having to kiss someone who smokes!

Getyourjinglebellsinarow · 11/01/2022 14:24

Antivaxxer. There's no such thing as second hand non vaccination. Lack of vaccination doesn't smell. Doesn't stain your walls. Doesn't cost your money. I'd never be with a smoker.

I smoked for years and never stained a wall
Andtheyalllookjustthesame · 11/01/2022 16:09

I wouldn't marry either. Actually I'm really glad to be single in a smoke free idiot free fully vaxxed environment even thinking about it. Makes me feel very grateful 😊
