Would you rather be married to an anti-vaxxer or a smoker?

A random conversation I started with DH this morning. He is neither!!!

I think it would depend a little on whether the antivaxxer would prevent my DC being vaccinated. Can that happen?

I'd consider dating someone who wasn't having Covid vaccines for reasons of their own (even ones I considered ill-informed or displaying poor risk awareness) but who didn't bang on about it.

I wouldn't touch a full-on anti-vax conspiracy theorist, or even a tedious Toby Young type contrarian/libertarian with a barge pole.

I loathe smoking and the millions of deaths the tobacco companies have knowingly caused in the name of profit (used to work with medical stats), but in terms of livability I'd take that over a full-on conspiracy theorist.

Bakewelltart987 · 11/01/2022 10:11

@TyrannosaurusRegina

Smoker. Intelligence is an important thing to me and antivaxxers aren't too smart. It would be a massive turn off.
Were as smoking is very smart.
FunnyMummy2214 · 11/01/2022 10:14

For me, i would rather be with a smoker than an Antivaxxer. My partner is a smoker but respects our house and me enough to smoke outside.

Fabuleuse · 11/01/2022 10:17

Smoker, even though I'd struggle with the smell. I'm married to an ex-smoker although he gave up long before we met.

Hankunamatata · 11/01/2022 10:19

Its like comparing apples and oranges. Smoking is an addiction where anti vax is a choice.

I had to bulk buy febreeze lol!
BertieQueen · 11/01/2022 10:21

So this thread is basically another way to insult anyone who doesn’t want the covid vaccineHmm

Don’t know how many times this has been said but someone who doesn’t have one vaccine doesn’t mean they are are a anti vaxxer.

To the ones saying they would go behind their partners back and get their children vaccinated how would you feel if it was the other way round and your partner did something that you didn’t want to you children?

If a partner was anti vax - not just one against one vaccine - but against all vaccinations surely you would discuss this before children are brought into the equation so the problem didn't come up further down the line? 🤷🏼‍♀️

DSGR · 11/01/2022 10:24

Can’t stand either but if I had to choose smoker.

Rosebel · 11/01/2022 10:27

Smoker. Especially if anti vaxer was against any child getting vaccinations.
Probably biased because I grew up in a family of smokers with no issues and couldn't live with someone who was happy to potentially let our child die from an illness we could have prevented.

MrsSkylerWhite · 11/01/2022 10:28

Would marry neither.

daimbarsatemydogsbone · 11/01/2022 10:29

A bit of a daft question OP - it's the difference between shit and shite.

Thievesoil · 11/01/2022 10:29

If you replace “anti vaccer” with any other minority term, you venture into hate speech

I wouldn’t want to date anyone who couldn’t have a robust debate about differences of opinion

It's differences of fact, not opinion. That's why everyone else says that anti vaxxers are stupid, because they don't have a scooby what they're talking about and try to hide behind differences of opinion to cover for it.
CountryGirl17 · 11/01/2022 10:33

@PleasantBirthday

The jury is still out on vaccinations

Are you sure about that?

When people are still getting Covid when vaccinated then yes “the jury is still out..”.

Also, when people are Covid positive, it’s not the case that you can get the virus and be unwell. There’s too much unknown still. The rate of Covid and severity has reduced since the vaccinations. So yes, it’s working, but would I prefer to marry a smoker or someone not vaccinated? I’d prefer a none-vaccinated person.

If they get Covid, with 98% (approx) survival rate then that’s better that living with someone that smells of smoke, tastes of smoke when you kiss them and the potential years of chemotherapy if they get cancer.

PurpleDaisies · 11/01/2022 10:35

It’s not wrong to not want to date someone with different world views to you. Some people would only want to date another member of the same religion, or political persuasion, or whatever. That’s not hate speech.

I wouldn’t want to date anyone who couldn’t have a robust debate about differences of opinion.

Debate is fine. There are some differences opinion that can’t be got past though. It’s not realistic to say that’s not true and we should all just accept our varied views.

Thievesoil · 11/01/2022 10:40

The views on this thread are MN at its worst.

Yes it’s hate speech. Millions of people remain unvaccinated and retain bodily autonomy. Many of them have complex reasons for being wary. Most will have embraced childhood vaccination for their kids

The level of division and hatred is horrible to see and really shows the depths humans will sink to in “otherness”

PurpleDaisies · 11/01/2022 10:43

Yes it’s hate speech

Because you say it is?

I wouldn’t date an anti vaxxer is hate speech?

PleasantBirthday · 11/01/2022 10:45

Yes it’s hate speech. Millions of people remain unvaccinated and retain bodily autonomy.

We can't help it, Bill Gates is making us say these things through the tiny microchips he's stolen our bodily autonomy with. How can you accuse us of hate speech when we no longer control our own thoughts?

Blackmagicqueen · 11/01/2022 10:45

Neither, I'd rather be single!

Joystir59 · 11/01/2022 10:46

An anti vaxxer

Blossomtoes · 11/01/2022 10:49

Forced to choose, I’d probably opt for a smoker. Trouble is I’d probably be back on the fags myself in no time if I lived with a smoker.

SueSaid · 11/01/2022 10:49

@SportsMother

Smoker for me, smokers don’t try to persuade you what they’re doing is rational, healthy or “sticking it to the man”
This.

Most smokers do indeed know what they do is wrong and stupid.

Trussells · 11/01/2022 10:49

Crucially, how do you define anti-vaxxer? Then that question can be answered.

Deciding not to take one of these Covid jabs doesn't make you an anti vaxxer. I seriously hope people aren't dim enough to have that view.

TheLovelinessOfDemons · 11/01/2022 10:51

A smoker. And I am!

PlanktonsComputerWife · 11/01/2022 10:51

Smokers. They have sexy voices.

Hard to sound sexy when you're on a ventilator.
