To think Molly Mae is getting shit because she’s a woman?

Yes, the comments are ignorant and naive. But I think people are going way too far with the abuse. I’ve seen many posts on social media (mainly from men) complaining about her comments and they have intentionally tagged really unflattering photos of her (like midway through talking) to the post where they go on like she’s the devil incarnate.

Many, many male celebrities have preached the same stuff. I have teen DD’s and DSD’s who all have male celebrities they are fans of and I’ve heard of these celebrities saying the same stuff. That if you work hard and “hustle” you will succeed.

There’s also lots of self-help Instagram accounts that preach the same stuff. These accounts are popular with young lads and are ran by men and seem to be aimed at men. Often they focus on cars and how you can have your dream car just like the guy behind the account if you follow his advice, buy his breathing technique course and work hard bla bla bla. These people don’t seem to get crucified the way Molly Mae has done.

Also a lot of male rappers who are popular these days such as Aitch make it their whole brand to show off about how they are successful because they took a chance and work hard bla bla bla. Aitch is a rapper from a very rough area of Manchester who got a lucky break. Molly Mae is more middle class but she went to a comp school and wasn’t outrageously wealthy. She just wasn’t on the breadline, why should she apologise for that? One of Aitch’s song lyrics is “I’ve got your boyfriend’s monthly wage in my jeans.” (DD loves the song). Nobody has ever come after him for that.

It seems to me that:

A man from a non-celeb average background gets a lucky break and becomes famous and rich and tries to inspire his fans to work hard and do the same = amazing and down to earth and inspiring

A woman from a non-celeb average background gets a lucky break and becomes rich and famous and tries to inspire her fans to work hard and do the same = a silly thick little cow who is only good for her looks and should keep her mouth shut and know her place.

I honestly believe if her boyfriend had made the same comments nobody would have batted an eyelid.

The teenage boys I know (relatives who I have on Facebook) are constantly sharing quotes by Tupac and similar such rappers saying how they “hustled” and “worked” and that’s why they are rich.

Yes I get people’s point that she’s only famous because of Love Island but she and Love Island are products of this society. Love Island predates Molly Mae. Half the people attacking her now probably tune in to every episode and should look at themselves.

Molly Mae had a cancerous melanoma removed not long ago and was brilliant at raising awareness for young people to never ignore moles and to always get them checked for cancer. She has endometriosis and used her platform to raise awareness of the condition, young girls are often conditioned to just put up with their chronic pain conditions.

She isn’t the devil incarnate that she’s being made out to be. She just made a silly comment.

Better than some male rapper making songs about drugs and objectifying songs about women’s body parts then having the audacity to claim they worked hard and are now rich because of how great and unique they are. Yet they are the ones that get known as inspirations.[/quote]
Is Tupac the rapper who made songs about women’s body parts? I take it you don’t know his music or anything about his life?
If a now dead rapper talked about hustling, having come from the ‘ghetto’, you really can’t see what the difference between the comments coming from him and from her?

It’s completely bonkers to try and defend comments like hers.

Tupac not above criticism either, accusations of forced sodomy for one. Totally separate issue to this though.

But really did work his way out of poverty so couldn't begrudge him saying so. Big theme in rap anyway, so naturally would expect it to be said. Can appreciate his 'work ethic' without condoning his other actions as a person. I expect this is a symptom of influencer culture and the whole 'buying into' the whole concept of a person. In the old days you could appreciate art without defending the artist when their morals didn't align with yours.

However, I fail to see why he was picked as a comparison. Surely a reality star like Joey Essex or another Love Island contestant is more comparable. I don't know if they said anything about 'hustling' or working hard.
Interesting that Beyonce said the 24 hour quote. Interesting because Beyonce really does work incredibly hard. Could have happily 'retired' after destiny's child on marrying a rich rapper. Instead continues to produce new music. Not a saint, but tends to come across as quite humble. Not even remotely comparable to an influencer, who, whilst they may have to do some things to stay popular, work really isn't comparable with going on tour or writing and producing new material(plus raising a family)

As a side note in general influencers tend to be anti feminist as they work by convincing followers that if they buy xyz they'll be happy and have a wonderful lifestyle.
Like all MLM they prey on the vulnerable.

So can't hold this woman up on a pedestal as some kind of self made businesses woman when her money comes from exploiting the vulnerable:both her fans directly and the factory workers indirectly.

Did you all see the maker of diary of a ceo point of view on all this ?

He thinks she’s being treated unfairly due to her being a woman

JacquelineCarlyle · 11/01/2022 22:17

I think he speaks a lot of sense @LovelyYellowLabrador

Beyonce never said the 24hrs. Her fans did in reference to if beyonce can work they way she does, and train the way she does, you can too. Only difference here, mm used it as stop being poor you lazy so and so.

Spot on .... a generic "anyone can make it if they work hard enough" would make me roll my eyes and frown a bit however it's the specific dig at a person who has had NONE of the privilege she has that is not just tone deaf - MM isn't my cup of tea however I don't actually think she's thick or an idiot just said something quite idiotic as she's been very quick to realise she has a small window to capitalise on her fame - but there's something quite disrespectful and patronising about that choice of vocabulary.

Hopefully MM May use this as an opportunity to reflect and who knows, maybe choose some activities she could support and use her current platform for, say actual tangible action to raise better awareness/understanding and campaign for better support around endometriosis. I could train a chimp to write a few heartfelt Insta posts or film a moving video on the topic ... actual grass roots support and action are what will really make a difference to the woman and girls suffering with the condition.
