Fell down the toilet AGAIN

DH is home sick and is getting RIGHT under my feet!?
He does annoying habits things ( as he points out, I do too) but I like to think none of my “habits “ actually cause injury to anyone or the home

I’ve asked him repeatedly, to stop urinating with the toilet seat up, as obviously it’s gross and I sit in it.
He’s a bit of a germaphobe and touching the seat probably gives him the heebeejeebies but this is not reasonable

He argued to the death ,yesterday ‘twas not him that had peed on the seat and he’d “wiped “ it afterwards.Angry

So he’s now lifting the seat, but not putting it bacj down!

TWICE today, I have fell down the loo!
I’m looking after a little baby , and generally running around bananas and a pee is not a luxury! It’s a quick in/out procedure!
So I fell down it this morning and shouted and then the NEXT time I was shouting insert expletives

I know I’m not BU just a moan, really
Surely men should put it back down after? Is this equal rights now? He’s lifts and I close? Sharing is caring ?

@Callipygion

Oh I hate that, it’s usually at night and haven’t bothered putting the light on. you sit down and get a nasty cold shock, falling back further than you anticipate. I also hate sitting on the lid with a bump, when I thought it was up!
You SHOULD put the light on! There are a million hazzards around the home, you shouldn't be walking round in the dark. You'll have an accident!
Mermaid67 · 08/01/2022 23:09
@Mermaid67 I wouldn't even attempt to walk around my house in the dark, without switching on any lights! I could trip over things, bump into things, tread on things, bang my feet, and have all sorts of accidents! I think it's a really bad idea to do this!
I make sure my route from bed to bathroom is clear and I do it at least once a night so find it no problem ( unless loo seat up😂)

Dontwanttolivewithmylover · 08/01/2022 23:25

You have eyes. Look before you sit. You surely must SEE the loo before you sit on it 🤔

TracyMosby · 08/01/2022 23:28

The lid should always be down before you flush. This situation should not arise. You probably have toothbrushes in that room, and pee and poo water flying around the room when you flush with no seat up.

FortniteBoysMum · 08/01/2022 23:35

In our house the rule is you put the lid down. This means I have to lift the lid, they (dp and sons) have to lift lid and seat. Everyone has to lift something and put it back down each time. I set the rule gor that very reason as at least one of them didn't know how to aim in the toilet and I got sick of cleaning it up.

Tzimi · 08/01/2022 23:37

@Mermaid67 Ok, I think I'm getting the picture, I take it it's an en-suite toilet & it's close to your bed, so you don't bother to turn the light on? I would still turn on a light myself, as there may be something on the floor which wasn't there before that I might tread on. Or I might trip on the duvet, or something if I can't see where I'm going. But if you really don't want to turn on the light, you could check whether the seat is down with your hands.

Yes, could do although to be honest I’m normally half asleep and want to stay that way, and also don’t want to wake my husband

LoveFall · 08/01/2022 23:59

My solution is to have a very small dim nightlight in the bathroom so I can see if the seat is down.

This after years of falling into the toilet because one of the three males in my family left the seat up.

Even a little LED tea light candle works great and avoids dazzling yourself with lights.

PixieLaLa · 09/01/2022 02:40

Strange that you notice urine on the seat when it was down but can’t seem to notice the entire toilet seat being up and fall in twice in one day….Confused

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 09/01/2022 02:43

Just make it a new rule to always shut the lid. That's our rule and it's nice to always have a closed loo.

^
This. The lid should be shut by everyone.

Marzipanmike · 09/01/2022 04:49

In our house, in the downstairs loo the toilet seat lid is alway put down.
This is because rats can climb through the soil pipe, swim around the lavatory bend and if the lid is up, into your house.
If you live in an urban area you are no more than 6ft away from a rat slightly more elsewhere
So keep the lid down when it's not being used

That's pretty shocking! I've never experienced rats swimming around in my toilet. There must be something you can do to get rid of them?

That's what I do as well, I leave my office desk light on during the night, which provides just enough light to see where I'm going if I get up during the night.
angela99999 · 09/01/2022 08:39

My DH started doing this recently after years of "normal" behaviour. It matters to me because we don't put lights on at night so as not to disturb each other, and it's horrid to sit on cold porcelain in the dark in the middle of the night. Fortunately he's reformed.

This is a great idea, thanks

I had a bf at Uni many, many years ago.
The cleaners put a notice in the loo 'Our aim is to keep this toilet clean. Your aim helps.'
Nothing much to do with this thread but it always made me laugh!

I get more annoyed at the lid being down. I've been in a rush a couple of times and sat on it. Not nice!!

I don't understand why toilets have lids at all and would happily buy a seat that didn't have one. It's a waste of resources, adds to the cost of the seat which is, I feel, a necessity. A lid does nothing whatsoever. And don't give me the line about "it keeps the smell in". No it doesn't as there's a gap all the way around the edge. And even if it did ever so slightly you then have to bend down to lift it and put your face near the toilet. Disgusting!!!

TheRemotePart · 09/01/2022 15:23

@JulieMcVie y’all need to chill…

Seriously, who just blindly sits down without checking first? If you want DH to start thinking you are a nag, you are well on your way.
Jesus, settle down. What rude and pointless replies 🥴
WishIwasElsa · 09/01/2022 16:01

I have a bath issue dp work in construction and always leaves sand dust etc in the bath never cleans it out. I am the only one who cleans the bath and I often don't notice until I need to run it for me or the kids and I then have to clean it first all of the time as well as cleaning it after me and kids use it because I am not grim, so it's never a problem for him 😭

You can easily take the lid off if you prefer your toilet without it!
