Fell down the toilet AGAIN

DH is home sick and is getting RIGHT under my feet!?
He does annoying habits things ( as he points out, I do too) but I like to think none of my “habits “ actually cause injury to anyone or the home

I’ve asked him repeatedly, to stop urinating with the toilet seat up, as obviously it’s gross and I sit in it.
He’s a bit of a germaphobe and touching the seat probably gives him the heebeejeebies but this is not reasonable

He argued to the death ,yesterday ‘twas not him that had peed on the seat and he’d “wiped “ it afterwards.Angry

So he’s now lifting the seat, but not putting it bacj down!

TWICE today, I have fell down the loo!
I’m looking after a little baby , and generally running around bananas and a pee is not a luxury! It’s a quick in/out procedure!
So I fell down it this morning and shouted and then the NEXT time I was shouting insert expletives

I know I’m not BU just a moan, really
Surely men should put it back down after? Is this equal rights now? He’s lifts and I close? Sharing is caring ?

@Whymustyoubringinthebirds

It's pretty obvious when it's up...

The 2 minutes that it takes to go into the toilet and do an pee surely doesn't need too be a rush job even with a baby, it's minutes they will be fine

Check before you sit, not something I would get worked up over

Check before she sits? Are you being serious or obtuse? Putting the toilet seat down isn’t a major request. If he can put it up then he can put it down.
DoctorSnortles · 08/01/2022 20:01

I have a simply enormous arse, so have never fallen in the loo. As you're so teeny-tiny, OP, I suggest you perch your miniscule posterior on a little egg cup instead of using the loo.

Eh?Confused
Mumontour85 · 08/01/2022 20:12

Gross! The lid should always be down for flushing anyway... SO many germs fly around otherwise!!

Tzimi · 08/01/2022 20:14

How on earth did you manage to fall down the loo? Don't you have a light in your bathroom, so you can see what you're doing?

Showpan · 08/01/2022 20:15

Yes we always shut the lid. That way, everyone has to lift plus I hate open toilets.

BlaBlaSmthSmth · 08/01/2022 20:17

OP I always wondered how it was possible to "fall down the loo" like this especially as I generally notice when the seat is left up...and then it happened to me Blush it does happen and it's not nice.
I disagree with other posters who are saying you should be lifting the seat for him after you've used it, they are being contrary for the sake of it. It's nothing like the same thing.

I definitely think agreeing to closing the lid each time is the way I'd go with it.

solfleur · 08/01/2022 20:19

I'm the only female in our household live with 3 males, DH, DS1(24) & DS2(17) I like to think now I've trained my lot regarding toilet etiquette - when peeing lid up, seat up (do business)wipe any dribbles, seat down, lid down, flush. Wash hands. When doing other - seat down (do business) lid down, flush, wash hands. The other thing I've learnt to do is I never go into the toilet barefooted!!

Turning the light on in the bathroom at night sends a message to my brain that it’s time to wake up and I can’t get back to sleep😕

Me too!
Pleasethamk · 08/01/2022 20:29

@HalloHello

If he's putting it down for you, are you lifting it up for him? Same difference if you ask me.

Just make it a new rule to always shut the lid. That's our rule and it's nice to always have a closed loo.

That’s actually perfect
Gbtch · 08/01/2022 20:33

Close the lid.

TheRemotePart · 08/01/2022 21:32

@BlaBlaSmthSmth totally! there were lot of contrary buggers on, last night! Confused

We’re going with lid closing for ALL and see if it works ! Grin

I hate toilet seats. I sat on one once and it wasn't secured and it moved and made me jump and I hurt my back. Another time at a friend's house the seat had a crack in it and my skin on the back of my leg got pinched in the crack. I just don't trust them now and always lift them up to sit on the actual toilet.

TheRemotePart · 08/01/2022 21:39

@Romney981 oooh I’ve had the leg pinch too!

Someone will probably ask you for a diagram as they don’t understand how it’s possible ,be warned Wink

Showgirl38 · 08/01/2022 21:42

Surely everyone puts the toilet lid down to flush to stop all the urine and fecal matter spraying all over your bathroom?

TheRemotePart · 08/01/2022 21:48
  • yes , as per the original post : ideally the lid would be closed ,save plague and pestilence being thrown against all bathroom surfaces but since I can’t get him to even put the seat bit down , I’m wondering why anyone’s asking this. Repeatedly

Ha that's what we agreed to as well..although he rarely remembered/bothered 😤

I almost had a heart attack when it happened though 🤣 It scared the crap out of me...I suppose I landed in the right place at least 😏

ALongHardWinter · 08/01/2022 22:04

How tiny are you that you can fall down a toilet because the seat is up?! Confused

Twopandemicpregnancies · 08/01/2022 22:15

Ok so I know the conventional wisdom is to flush with the lid down but further research has been done since then and it seems it’s swings and roundabouts whether you flush with the lid up or down as the particles just enter the area in a different way depending on if the lid is up or down

microbiologysociety.org/news/society-news/does-putting-the-lid-down-when-flushing-the-toilet-really-make-a-difference.html

So damned if you do and damned if you don’t - so don’t stress about that either way!

As to leaving it up or down, in a household of say 2 males and 2 females it makes more sense to leave the seat down as women have it down all the time and men have it down at least some of the time for doing a number 2. In a house of more males to females perhaps the default should be seat up if we are going with the majority position?!

Pedalpushers · 08/01/2022 22:29

I have never understood this argument. If I go in and the seat is up, I put it back down. Never fallen in because I have eyes. If it takes them 2 seconds to put it down, it takes you the same. Arguing over it just seems like such a waste of precious life.

TheRemotePart · 08/01/2022 22:30

Aaaah the bittersweet email : you’re daft thread is in the Hot Threads email, but alas you can never tell anyone ..Grin

Heruka · 08/01/2022 22:37

I don’t get why womens desire to have the seat down is more important than mens desire to leave it up. And I am not usually on the side of the menz, trust me!

CMZ2018 · 08/01/2022 22:42

Look where you’re sitting then

Tzimi · 08/01/2022 22:54

@Mermaid67 I wouldn't even attempt to walk around my house in the dark, without switching on any lights! I could trip over things, bump into things, tread on things, bang my feet, and have all sorts of accidents! I think it's a really bad idea to do this!
