“that if you want something enough, you can achieve it”

“You’re given one life and it’s down to you what you do with it
. You can literally go in any direction. When I’ve spoken about that in the past I have been slammed a little bit, with people saying ‘it’s easy for you to say that because you’ve not grown up in poverty, so for you to sit there and say we all have the same 24 hours in a day is not correct.’ But, technically, what I’m saying is correct. We do.

“I understand we all have different backgrounds and we’re all raised in different ways and we do have different financial situations, but I think if you want something enough you can achieve it. It just depends on what lengths you want to go to get where you want to be in the future. And I’ll go to any length. I’ve worked my absolute arse off to get where I am now.”

Not someone id come across before, a reality star, who has said the above

is she being reasonable or not?

I'm absolutely amazed that you haven't realised yet Jessie is real. Smile

Even if she was one , that is one too many. But there are hundreds and thousands of Jessie's. My sympathy and concern is with them as well as the worry of what comments like this mean for them and their struggles.

Notonthestairs · 07/01/2022 21:06

Her message wasn't "work harder" it was everyone has the same amount of time - and this has broadly been interpreted as everyone has the same launching off point which patently untrue.

It is easily remedied by a statement/post explaining that she knows that people do not all have the same opportunities or support network (and she's very grateful for hers yadada) but she feels she works hard and has made of what she has etc.

Basic PR.

Jessie is real now? Who is Jessie, you?
foxlover47 · 07/01/2022 21:21

I would imagine she's had to develop a thick skin to being called out on SM as during her stint on love island she was branded "money mae " and the whole media were saying she was fake and using Tommy fury

The better question is why should anyone give a shit what she says?

In a more functional society she wouldn't be getting abuse. In fact she'd be getting no attention at all.

Wh00pi · 07/01/2022 21:26

I actually don't get why people are this bothered, she made an ill-informed naive comment. In no way was it malicious. I watched love island 2019 and she does not come across that way whatsoever.

As if nobody here has any stupid or unpopular social opinions, like get over it.

She's wrong, she most likely realises that now it's been repeated 1000 times. Life goes beyond her social circle, yes, but all our opinions are formed by what we know.

Now she knows.

Wh00pi · 07/01/2022 21:27

And I'm nowhere near rich, was a teen parent and uni student on UC not long ago.

You're very sure of your position on this so I'm not sure what you're getting from this thread other than annoyed tbh. Enjoy your evening!

I am very sure she doesn’t deserve this level of grief and humiliation for that stupid comment, yes. It’s disproportionate.

Notonthestairs · 07/01/2022 21:32

I don't disagree Tom. I was just pointing out that it can be de-escalated.

Autismandgin · 07/01/2022 21:35

Oh my goodness @Pumperthepumper.

It’s only a Mumsnet “level of grief and humiliation”….even the article on Daily Mail is tiny. She’s a Z list celebrity in a tiny country. She’s a terrible role model but I’m sure she’ll be ok, she’ll have no choice but to grow up and act more responsibly.

You need to step back, your obsession with her isn’t healthy! Smile

Knickynackynoo · 07/01/2022 21:39

She's 22 - we could all be a bit silly at 22, and clearly nit very bright. And as far as I knew was not that far removed from being an escort/hooker. I don't think anyone should be losing any sleep over anything she says.

Who gives a crap what some celeb says? Pay it no attention. Life is too short to get upset at a privileged child.

Mreggsworth · 07/01/2022 21:59

I don't think there's anything wrong with saying you work hard. I just dislike that there was no mention of luck or privilege.

She is 22, with no qualifications in business (that I know of) who has landed a job as a creative director for 600k a year. A job someone would usually have to take years and years with multiple qualifications to achieve. She got there because she was on love island. I dont judge her for that, fairplay to her, make the most of the opportunities offered to you, I would. But it is deluded if she thinks she got there from just working hard.

I don't think her comments would have been taken half as badly if she just made some form of acknowledgement of how fortunate she is. You can work hard and be lucky at the same time.

And those comments saying "she is just a young girl give her a break"

She is a women who is trying to make a name for herself as an established business person who can influence, motivate and inspire people. She has a public platform and is old enough to know with all this power and media presence comes responsibility. If she gets it wrong she gets called out, that's the downside of wanting your life to be in the media.

Emerald5hamrock · 07/01/2022 22:02

She inspired many young women to get rid of the fillers and extensions, that's a plus.
I hope this doesn't end her.
She is young she'll learn how words can be sharp.

She’s still got extensions and fillers.

She swapped out her fillers for better, less obvious ones and has lied about getting them dissolved.
She hasn’t lied about her extensions, she’s a hair extension brand ambassador so talks about them quite openly.
Her teeth are another thing she clearly lies about.

Knickynackynoo · 07/01/2022 22:31

Oh God I didn't know about the 'job' 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣. Creative Director in the vast, vast amount of industries is such a none job - and please I am sorry to anyone who works in the industries where this is a very specific role, like an agency for instance. However in a lot of industries its the title owners/MDs etc. give to their mistresses or children when they want to give them a job, she's hardly going to be getting a controlling vote on the board is she 🤣.

What's happened here though is old Umar feels she's quite valuable to his business, via her 'influence', status (celeb) contacts list/little black book etc. and that he/they (the brand) will have for more control of and access to that with her as an employee than just accessing her as an 'influencer' the salary could be bollocks but maybe its the sum of parts of what they would have spent for that type of marketing any way but with far, far less control and chance to exploit than they have with her as an 'employee'.

If we are getting enraged about anyone it should be the actual brand/owner who are clearly using her....but honestly she's so thick and so rich it'll barely touch the sides so I can't feel that sorry for her.

If you think that's enough for a person to be listened to, you have some pretty low expectations.
CharlotteGoldenblattYork · 08/01/2022 11:59

I know someone who is always banging on about how 'with hard work you can achieve whatever you want' on her social media.

In truth, she and her husband are both from middle class homes with supportive families. Her husband started a landscape gardening business and literally got a huge contact through luck which then led to other contracts.

I don't doubt that they've worked hard but there are a whole manner of other factors at play in their situation

Like others have said, she got rid of obvious fillers and made a big deal of going back to her natural face, but she clearly still has (subtle and nicely done) lip fillers, and perhaps even cheek and jaw fillers still. For me it’s more problematic of her to make a big deal of being natural while having injectables as it’s setting the unrealistic standard of beauty, I would respect her more if she admitted it, then at least young girls know what they are aspiring to is not real. She also really heavily filters her pictures and videos.
Omicrone · 08/01/2022 12:20

Yes, she clearly still has filler in her lips!

I don't think she is a horrible, unfeeling person, I just think she is incredibly naive and has no clue about the real world.

nalabae · 08/01/2022 12:51

I like her work ethic.
She use to do YouTube then went on love island and made her 15min last unlike some of the others.

EishetChayil · 08/01/2022 12:54

This is so true! I've seen it in several workplaces.

Hahaha Eh no.
I am not a influencer follower or a young woman.
If it stops some youngsters looking like Jackie Stallone at 30 then it's helpful and life changing for them.
The first I heard of MM my 14by.o niece was crying because MM pup died, the poor animal travelled across countries, it wasn't a popular opinion when I explained how selfish she was.
I didn't say it was intellectual advice we're talking a SM influence person who young sheep women/teens adore.
