SIL gone to panto when waiting for PCR result - oh yes she did!

Name changed as I’ve been slated on here before for not allowing my SIL to do as she pleases.

Today I thought we’d made a positive turn as she has taken my older son and hers to the pantomime as I’ve got a broken leg (though she has made a big thing about helping out).

Unfortunately she’s just text me to say “BTW I’ve had a positive lateral and waiting on my PCR but decided to take the boys anyway as xxx (her son) was looking forward to it, I’m sure that’s fine”.

In which universe is that fine?? She’s risking not just my son, but the others she’s gone with and the whole audience!! She is very jealous if people do social things without her but surely there comes a time when sense is more important than FOMO?? I’m assuming she waited till she was there to tell me so I couldn’t do anything.

Husband says I’m being unreasonable for being annoyed as the rules aren’t clear cut and she hasn’t had the PCR test back.

AIBU for wanting to ban her as she’s so irresponsible and only really cares about herself?

Mind you, I've always felt that the onus should be on those not wanting to catch it to stay home, rather than others having to curtail their freedom in case someone catches it.

Not quite as simple as 'not wanting to catch it'. @DappledOliveGroves. I recently finished treatment for cancer. I still had to go to chemo and my other treatments. Should I just have stayed at home so as not to inconvenience you or curtail your freedom? I kind of just wanted to, you know, not die from cancer.

i havejust tested positive on a lateral flow. I can't get a PCR because there is such a shortage of them where I am to reduce the demand they are for essential workers only. But its very clear that I'm postive and have to isolate 7 days provided I then test negative. I wouldn't DREAM of going to a pantomime! And I'm trying to keep a distance from my kids, its so difficult. Selfish woman. No wonder it's so rife if this is what some people are doing

This But that said....many people aren't bothering with any type of test if they are just a bit symptomatic cos they just want to be getting on with stuff.... and also of people can't get a lateral flow or a pcr test anyway.... so the way I look at it is.... I treat everyone put and about as if they are positive....but I'm not staying in

I mean... Call the theatre?! Tell them she's covid positive and sitting in their audience. Then contact test & trace. And send DH to get your kid. Then never speak to her again.

Why should people live like hermits, holed up in their homes, just because selfish pigs like the sister of the OPs can't be arsed to follow rules? Maybe if everyone followed rules and practiced social distancing, hand hygiene, mask wearing etc, we could all go about a much more normal existence.

Agreed @Marianne1234 it is so tiresome. And I say that as someone who is triple jabbed, wears a mask when and where legally required too and who has adhered to all rules and done as asked. I wouldn't have done what the OP SIL has done until I'd got a pcr result but the fact is there are so many people like her so nowhere is "safe" and never will be.

Thanks. I thought she was being unreasonable but the fact that husband and then MIL and other SIL defended her made me doubt myself. Now I’m happy to have a word or 5 when she drops off DS.

She tested due to symptoms and living with someone who tested positive beforehand (and the positive lateral).

Oddly if anyone did this to her she’s be going mad.

We're all pissed off with it, some people still don't want to cause illness to others. Some of you don't care. I think it's perfectly normal (for most people anyway) to NOT want to potentially harm others. 🤷

This is exactly what has been happening in primary schools - positive LF, send them into school while they wait for results PCR. If you follow the files to the letter, rather than using common sense then this is what you do. I despair too!

Things like this make me uncomfortable doing things, we have had covid and it was rubbish, we're boosted now so probably wouldn't feel too ill if we caught it again but neither me nor my husband get paid if we have to be off with covid (SSP only) and we'd spend the next few months catching up, it's not just making people ill that's the problem here.

Your sister is a cunt and I wouldn't hesitate to report her. I'd certainly ring the theatre and tell them they have a known positive case in their midst.

Likewise @Notonthestairs. We were abroad, cinema, meals out, concerts, theatre etc all normal stuff. I don't know why people are pretending they've been locked in their houses for two years.
