Ghislaine Maxwell.....

Livelovebehappy · 30/12/2021 07:20

Ghislaine Maxwell has been found guilty of grooming young girls for Jeffrey Epstein. Whilst she absolutely was guilty of aiding the abuse of these girls, shouldn’t there now be investigations into the high profile men who were clearly involved in the abuse? Clinton and Trump, as well as a Prince Andrew were clearly very close to Epstein, and there have been rumours of many other famous people being around at the time. I actually think Epstein’s death was suspect, and I wouldn’t be surprised if his death had been staged to protect some high profile men from being exposed. Maxwell has definitely taken the fall for a lot of people who should have been in the dock with her.

VG comes across as a woman who’s relishing the fight, to put it tactfully. There’s no reason why she shouldn’t, but it doesn’t play well.#

Disagree. Without her none of this would've happened. Yes, she's made money out of it. That's great. So have other victims because of her. She was the face of it that wouldn't go away. Well done her. It plays well for me.

L0uby1 · 30/12/2021 09:26

@Sirzy Thank you.

Roussette · 30/12/2021 09:27

The Maxwell family have a website that's fighting her corner and has been the whole time. It has made for interesting reading

STATEMENT FROM THE MAXWELL FAMILY "We believe firmly in our sister's innocence - we are very disappointed with the verdict. We have already started the appeal tonight and we believe that she will ultimately be vindicated."

Well.... they would say that wouldn't they?

plm456 · 30/12/2021 09:30

She trafficked them. In what sense was she not a 'main perpetrator'?

Difference between the use of "a" and "the". My comment referred to the main perpetrator which I'd see as Jeffrey Epstein. Agree that she was a key perpetrator.

EmmaWoodhousestreehouse · 30/12/2021 09:31

@Noshowlomo

She deserves to be in jail but so do the elites and men involved. She’s the scapegoat and it reeks of misogyny
She’s no scapegoat. She was clearly involved, recruited the girls as well as facilitated and joined in with the abuse. She’s a sex offender of no less standing than her mate Jeff.

As for others involved, whether they may be male or female, hopefully they be brought to justice. That includes those who may be hiding behind their mummy’s royal apron strings.

52andblue · 30/12/2021 09:38

Maxwell is a criminal, who is now being brought to justice for her crimes.
There are other criminals out there, more rich & powerful, who probably never will be. Prince Andrew is one.

sashh · 30/12/2021 09:39

The sentencing will be interesting.

Her lawyers have said she want's to appeal, but this is the only time she has left to get a reduction.

Whether she believes herself innocent or just doesn't care about others is, to some extent, irrelevant. She has just turned 60 and could be looking at 40-60 years.

If I was facing that long in a US prison I'd be looking to make a deal.

IMHO she should have done a deal before but then she has the same arrogance many wealthy people have. She's used to throwing money at problems until they go away. This one won't go away.

SpaceshiptoMars · 30/12/2021 09:41

I just wish they could get a brain dump from her, so we could see how this kind of thing starts. She did what she did, but.... WHY? What was happening before she got involved, was JE doing the same but getting away with it because he was younger? Did other women fulfill this role for him before her? After her? So many questions. Was he incredibly charismatic, was she madly in love, was she her father's incest target etc.

How does society stop women being roped in like this - because when they are, really horrific crimes can happen.

Roussette · 30/12/2021 09:43

I have followed the trial as much as possible (not easy because of reporting restrictions and not live) and she had the arrogance, I think, to imagine she would get off.

What was galling was.... her victims (not the ones who testified but other victims) queued for hours in the freezing cold to get in to the public seats. Her family were ushered in like royalty in to the front seats. Disgusting.

This is a powerful piece from a victim...

Quite upsetting

Roussette · 30/12/2021 09:45

Fascinating to read about her family life and the dynamic that led to this. She moved on from her father to Epstein and she was fulfilling a role that was started decades earlier

DillonPanthersTexas · 30/12/2021 09:50

How does society stop women being roped in like this

It's almost like she had no agency in her decision making whatsoever! Despite being born into privilege, having a first class public school and Oxford education, connections that enabled her to pretty much choose any career she wanted 'society' failed her when she was forced against her will to become a sex abuser and trafficker of minors.

52andblue · 30/12/2021 09:50

In GM's case it was a combination of factors I think. She'd learned a lot about, fraud, £, & how to treat women & other 'little people' from her Father Robert. Like RM, JE was charismatic. Like RM GM served a particular role for him - he was a Narcissist and his love was conditional - she could be 'his Princess' but only if she jumped when & how he told her too: she did. So, unconscious patterns laid deep. BUT she also knew exactly what she was doing & was paid a lot for it - $20M.

NewYearNewBeer · 30/12/2021 09:54

Agree she's not a scapegoat - she's a significant guilty party and I hope she rots in misery in jail for it.

I also hope others involved in the whole evil affair are also prosecuted (looking at you Sweaty Andrew!) - but don't hold out much hope for it.

It is difficult to understand what women will do to please a man isn't it?

Then when it's offset by such an amount of money you wonder how much was for the man & how much for themselves?

anniegun · 30/12/2021 10:10

She could testify if others were involved. She will probably not want to admit her guilt rather than help the victims get justice

TheValeyard · 30/12/2021 10:12

'Society' be damned - she was a woman with connections and means. She freely chose to do what she did.

She'll be dead if she does
SpaceshiptoMars · 30/12/2021 10:14

So how do we protect ourselves against this kind of situation re-occurring?

Hairybaker · 30/12/2021 10:17

She will have “killed herself” in prison within a few weeks.

TheValeyard · 30/12/2021 10:19

So how do we protect ourselves against this kind of situation re-occurring?

Prosecute and punish those who perpetuate it - like Maxwell.

RussianSpy101 · 30/12/2021 10:24

@girlmom21 I agree. I’m shocked she’s lasted this long tbh. She’s clearly kept her mouth shut. Unlike Epstein who I don’t believe for a minute commuted suicide.

She is no scapegoat. She’s a criminal who has been found guilty of her crimes.

BlueShirtGuy · 30/12/2021 10:29

She's 'the main perpetrator' in her own trial. This was GM trial about her actions as there was enough evidence to show that she had committed those crimes.

HikingforScenery · 30/12/2021 10:29

I agree with the general consensus.
She deserves to be in jail for her part but the more powerful men who also participated in abusing these young girls will go free.
I suspect Epstein didn’t commit suicide.

Justice would be fully done if the men who took part in this awful awful situation in prison too. I doubt that will happen though.

Zebracat · 30/12/2021 10:50

I agree that she deserves a long prison sentence. I am not going to make any excuses for her. I think that she may have looked back fondly on her own childhood, having been trained to believe she was a princess ,and felt that was doing these girls a favour. We really do need to challenge the sexualisation of children, and the normalisation of kink.

diddl · 30/12/2021 11:05

So if it has been proved that these girls were trafficked & there was therefore never any consent what more evidence is needed against any of the men known to have visited Epstein at his island, or perhaps even any of his properties?
