Is it morally wrong to spend your children's Christmas money and vouchers?

First of all let me start by saying I have no intention of doing this so no need to flame me, but I was wondering as my children between them have received over £100 from various relatives...all comes via me. Don't worry, I fully intend to give to my children!

But it got me thinking, let's say you were completely skint, would you use your children's Christmas money or vouchers to pay for food or essentials? Is it morally wrong or would you see it as necessary?

I have before, the oil tank split in the middle of the beast from the east and we were left with no heating and a house down to 11 Celsius. I emptied our meagre savings and maxed out our overdrafts but was still £100 odd short so I used the kids Christmas money.

Don't worry, I paid it back with significant interest as soon as I could and they never knew as they were mere toddlers. Figured a warm house was more important than money in the bank they neither knew or cared about.

If I was desperate I would ask my child if I can spend their voucher on food for us. It’s theirs and their decision.

And if they said ‘no?’

Presuming ‘desperate’ means no food, no money etc? If they said no you’d say ‘okay well we all can’t eat then’ and let your child sit hungry clutching a gift card?

Absolutely, if needed then no question about it. What propose is a toy/ luxury item If essentials are not met first.
