I've been invited for Xmas but I've just realised I'm being expected to bring Christmas

A family member who I have a history with has invited me and the kids for Christmas. I get here after a 90 mile drive and the place is a shithole. The kitchen table is covered in crap and clutter. I've just had to throw out some rotting food in a pan. I've brought the kids presents with me and will have to organise all the Xmas day food too. No decorations are up. I'll have to do that too. The kids are oblivious to all the stress I'm under trying to facilitate that and my parents have booked an air b n b nearby for the day after boxing day so I can't just up and leave. I feel full of rage right now.

You are being a mug.... He knew you'd do all the cleaning etc, that's why he hasn't bothered. But you won't listen as your now currently cleaning despite all earlier messages about going home.... I would have done.

He is clearly expecting you to sort everything out for him for Christmas.

By all means, martyr yourself and do it all . However what you should be doing is taking back control ( yes you're being controlled) and step away.
You tell your children that he's poorly and that you have to leave.
He is acting like the goodly uncle for a reason... to make you feel sorry for him and sort him out.

As to going forward, you might need some professional/legal help.

It's not your job to sort him out.

It's not your job to right his/your property while your parents sit by in an Airbnb while you create 'Christmas Perfect.'

Back away, let your parents deal with him and have your own cosy Christmas.
