The sooner we all admit this, the better. You're just lying to yourselves if you say otherwise.

The worst are the people who say "oh but if you fry them with bacon and crack cocaine they taste great." No. That is the bacon and drugs being worsened by this green hell.

Let's admit this once and for all.

But they're cute little baby cabbages! I love them and eat loads all year round 😋

0palescent · 20/12/2021 09:57

Yabu, I love them. I have been known to eat a bowl of them on their own (with butter and salt).

scottishnames · 20/12/2021 09:57

Shredded and stir fried.

Sliced, very briefly steamed but still crisp and stirred into roughly- mashed potatoes, with lots of black pepper.

Shredded raw in salad.

Halved or quartered, steamed but still crisp and vivid green, with pesto (and a sprinkle of parmesan type cheese, if liked). This goes really well with a plain omelette for a very fast but fresh and tasty meal.

I'm sure with sage and hazelnuts as suggested by poster up-thread would be good too.

Agree with Elphame that the taste of many fruit and veg has been spoiled by breeding for 'sweetness'. What's happened to good old bitter grapefruit? And to a lot of pineapples?

@Wiglio

I made a sprout bubble yesterday with ham and pickles Lovely
What pickles do you put on @Wiglio ?

Pickles I like. Worth getting wind for.

HW1989 · 20/12/2021 09:58

They are good!

Shedmistress · 20/12/2021 09:59

When I had a UK allotment, even thought our plots were next to each other, I grew great swedes and beets and my lottie neighbour grew great sprouts so we would grow some for each other and swap them around this time of year.

I've never managed to grow them, ever.

i actually dont mind them at all, as long as they arent over cooked and gone mushy, even my grand kids like them, i guess if your told they taste horrible then thats how your going to think and expect them to be, we dont even call them sprouts in our house but they are baby cabbages here
@earsup

Yuk...vile....never eaten them..disgusting vegetable...should be banned...dont know anyone who likes them.

And here is today's episode of 'shit you couldn't make up!^

"Disgusting vegetable - yuk vile. But I have never actually eaten them..."

LMFAO Grin Do you know how daft that sounds?!
Sounds like something a very young child would come out with!

Chemenger · 20/12/2021 10:09

Deep fried sprouts are a popular appetiser in New England, very common on restaurant menus, alongside deep fried pickles.

billy1966 · 20/12/2021 10:15

Adore them pan fried.

Giveaschitt · 20/12/2021 10:16

I don't go to the type of restaurants which serve sprouts.

So any restaurant that serves vegetables, particularly around Christmas? That must really limit your eating out options... Basically fast food or Indian/Chinese then?

Furrydogmum · 20/12/2021 10:18

As a child I once vomited on the table when my mum forced me to eat one.. As an adult who cooks very well, I love them!

RoRoYoYo · 20/12/2021 10:21

I love sprouts. Roasted sprouts are a regular meal here. I particularly love leftover cold sprouts but have to fight DS for them as he loves them too.

Mrsherdwick · 20/12/2021 10:23

I love sprouts!! I’m going to start a sprout appreciation society!!

Sn0tnose · 20/12/2021 10:24

I love them. Not shredded or fried with anything you’d get from a deli, but boiled for ages until all the firmness has gone.

And then the next day in bubble and squeak. Just the thought is making my mouth water.

Wiglio · 20/12/2021 10:25

@MrsBobDylan
I love picked walnuts and a good piccalilli
I have a spicy Tesco finest tomato one
Love a good bubble meSmile

Moomarre · 20/12/2021 10:28

I LOVE sprouts! They’re one of my favourite vegetables.

BogRollBOGOF · 20/12/2021 10:34

DS1 has loved sprouts since his first Christmas on solids. They are his absolute favourite food.
He's a very quirky child Grin

ErinAoife · 20/12/2021 10:37

I like them especially with bacon and chestnut.

wineandchocolateforthewin · 20/12/2021 10:41

Love them! Have them 2 or 3 times a week when they are in season.
They are also v nice in a Thai Green curry :-D

Hemingwayscatz · 20/12/2021 10:42

I don’t mind them. They’re not my absolute favourite and I admit to only actually eating them on Christmas Day but they’re ok Grin.

AryaStarkWolf · 20/12/2021 10:49

Love them, probably my favourite veg after Potatoes

Ispini · 20/12/2021 10:56

I adore them and eat them all year, however as for peas…… 🤢

Topseyt · 20/12/2021 10:56

I love them. Still firm, pan fried with chestnuts and garlic.

The after effects can be spectacular too.

Butchyrestingface · 20/12/2021 10:57

I ❤️ sprouts, but it was definitely an acquired taste. 😋
