The sooner we all admit this, the better. You're just lying to yourselves if you say otherwise.

The worst are the people who say "oh but if you fry them with bacon and crack cocaine they taste great." No. That is the bacon and drugs being worsened by this green hell.

Let's admit this once and for all.

@earsup

Yuk...vile....never eaten them..disgusting vegetable...should be banned...dont know anyone who likes them.
Your irrational prejudice is showing earsup ... Green eggs and ham, anyone?

Sprouts are lovely. They are little green powerhouses of vitamins, minerals and trace elements like iron and useful dietary fibre.

I don't believe there's a single food that 100% of people like, but sprouts have a poor rep because they are often cooked so badly. My DH didn't like them because of the way his mother cooked them (boiled until they fell apart as mush), once he'd had some decently cooked with other ingredients he was converted.

x2boys · 20/12/2021 08:59

I love sprouts and they don't need to be cooked with anything else they are lovely as they are imo .

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 20/12/2021 09:00

Dh would honestly eat them every day. I’m not quite that extreme but like them well enough. Ditto any sort of cabbage.

IMO it’s a fact that things taste different to different people. Tea with milk honestly tastes utterly vile to me, which puts me at odds with probably 95% of other Brits.

As regards sprouts, though, I’m quite sure that if they’d only just started appearing in supermarkets and had a fancy foreign name, they’d be hailed as the latest superfood and people would be raving about them.

PrincessPaws · 20/12/2021 09:02

I actually love sprouts and regularly have them on roast dinners. My husband thinks I'm gross

StrawberrySquash · 20/12/2021 09:09

YABU. I like the greenness and the layers of leaf. The texture is satisfying. And the sulphurous bitterness combined with sweetness.

ddl1 · 20/12/2021 09:12

I do! They have to be well-cooked, though.

OldTinHat · 20/12/2021 09:12

Sprouts are just the best thing ever! They have to be cooked to oblivion, no crunchy sprouts thank you. No adornments like bacon. Just sprouts, soggy, covered in gravy or cold the next day to eat straight out if the fridge.

Chely · 20/12/2021 09:15

Not a fan of them but like most other veggies.

Sausagedogsarethebest · 20/12/2021 09:15

I do. Shred them first, par boil, then pan fry them with pancetta and they're lovely. I do eat them just boiled too but prefer the pan fried ones.

The100thHoliday · 20/12/2021 09:16

Love ‘em! Lightly steamed, no need for all the butter/pancetta nonsense. Just as they are, not overcooked. Delicious!

Giveaschitt · 20/12/2021 09:20

I love them. One of my favourite vegetables. Steamed until they're going soft but still have a bit of bite. Don't need anything else added. I'll have yours if you don't want them.

tintodeverano2 · 20/12/2021 09:23

My dad absolutely loves them. I however, hate him eating them as for the rest of the day he doesn't stop farting. And they smell BAD!

SickOfRoses · 20/12/2021 09:28

I love them. They’re my favourite veg and I would eat them every meal if it wasn’t for the gas issue.

I do think however that nobody likes toffee penny’s and anyone that says they do are saying it for attention

AndARiverBeneathYourFeet · 20/12/2021 09:29

Oof

Love 'em plain or smothered in gravy. Don't mind, in my mouth they go.

AstroBunny · 20/12/2021 09:32

I can only eat them, and enjoy them, sauteed in garlic, ginger and soy sauce with spring onions, chestnuts and pancetta. That's how I serve them at Christmas and it's a huge winner with the family.

KittenKong · 20/12/2021 09:32

Some people really love asparagus and artichokes - they’re ok.

Or Jerusalem artichokes - I have only had these once. I was pregnant and I vomited them all down a shop window in broad daylight (I felt a gurgle and turned to what I thought was a wall in case I needed to spit into a hanky - but it was full Vesuvius and a plate glass window). It was a Sunday morning and I didn’t look pregnant so I probably looked like I was suffering from the night before. Never fancied them again after that.

roundtable · 20/12/2021 09:33

I like them and so does my eldest ds. I don't mind sharing a table with non sprouters. More for me. Unless they make childish yukky noises. FIL I'm looking at you...

Packingsoapandwater · 20/12/2021 09:35

Roast them.

I loathed sprouts until I had them roasted. Then they are absolutely lovely, particulsrly with bacon.

Elphame · 20/12/2021 09:36

I agree.

I used to love sprouts but the modern varieties have been bred to be less strong in flavour and as a result are tasteless and insipid.

If you can track down a heritage variety they are my favourite vegetable

MysteriesOfTheOrganism · 20/12/2021 09:37

Love them! But then I adore all the brassica vegetables: Savoy cabbage, spring greens, cavolo nero... yum!

FanGirlX · 20/12/2021 09:39

I love them and eat them regularly throughout the year.

They are delicious friend with chopped bacon 😀

Herecomesthesun70 · 20/12/2021 09:47

I love them. Had 2 dinners out last week and piled them up. I have been known to pick at them when I've finished eating too
I eat them all year

emuloc · 20/12/2021 09:52

Christmas dinner would not be complete without them, for me. They must be soft tough. Xmas Smile

MrsBobDylan · 20/12/2021 09:54

@FluffyBooBoo

I will not allow anyone around me to eat them either

Umm, what? So you are in a restaurant and someone on the next take has veg on their plate that you don't like. What do you do?

I don't go to the type of restaurants which serve sprouts.
Wiglio · 20/12/2021 09:55

I made a sprout bubble yesterday with ham and pickles
Lovely
