To ask - If you could only have THREE veg on your Christmas dinner?

goldenoldie1 · 19/12/2021 22:17

Top three options if that was the limit for Xmas dinner?

Mine is probably parsnips, nice carrots and broccoli.

I know I'm going to change my mind when I see other responses.

I don’t think I’ve ever had parsnips in any form. Keep thinking I should but they always look extremely unappetising to me - odd cos I love celeriac or horseradish etc. Maybe this time.

UnsuitableHat · 20/12/2021 17:42

Parsnips, sprouts, carrots

mathanxiety · 20/12/2021 17:45

Are we counting roast potatoes as a veg?

If yes, then roast parsnips, sprouts, and roast potatoes. If no, then include green beans.

CMOTDibbler · 20/12/2021 17:47

Parsnips
Red cabbage
Sprouts

MintyGreenDream · 20/12/2021 17:48

Cauliflower cheese,swede mash and sprouts

DroopyClematis · 20/12/2021 17:50

@DontWiltMySpinachPlease

I'm not going to include roast potatoes on my list because by the time they've bathed in the amount of fat that I use, they've basically lost all nutritionally value!

So proper veg:
Parsnips
Sprouts
Carrots

Yep!
Poniesandgin · 20/12/2021 18:13

Turnip, can’t get enough of it!
Carrots and broccoli second.

oviraptor21 · 20/12/2021 18:32

@MintyGreenDream

Cauliflower cheese,swede mash and sprouts
My soul mate!
LadyMonicaBaddingham · 20/12/2021 18:55

Roast Potatoes
Sprouts
Parsnips
If we're not counting potatoes, then I'll roast some carrots in the same tray as the snips...

NdujaWannaDance · 20/12/2021 18:56

I'm going to assume you aren't including roast potatoes in the three?

This is easy. Carrots, sprouts, parsnips.

We will sometimes also have petit pois or braised red cabbage, but carrots, sprouts and parsnips are the Christmas essentials.

Coffeesnob11 · 20/12/2021 20:48

Roasted sprouts
Petit pois just boiled for a couple of minutes
Cheesy creamed leaks with roasted sweetcorn stirred through

Belledan1 · 20/12/2021 21:55

Sprouts. Cauliflower cheese and carrots .

JesusMaryAndJosephAndTheWeeDon · 20/12/2021 21:56

That that would be too many

Do you have beans with yours?
popcorndiva · 20/12/2021 22:04

Sprouts stir fried with chestnuts and maple syrup
Roasted Parsnips
Honey glazed carrots

Mmmmmm

CurryLover55 · 20/12/2021 22:05

If you don’t count roast potatoes I would have roast parsnips, roast carrots ( or buttered swede/carrot mash) & cauliflower cheese

Ifeellikedancing · 20/12/2021 22:16

Cauliflower cheese
Brussels sprouts
Honey roast parsnips

Treaclepie19 · 20/12/2021 22:48

Not counting potatoes because they are special.
Sprouts, broccoli and cauliflower.

Cherrysoup · 20/12/2021 22:48

Sprouts, roast potatoes, parsnips or mashed turnip.

Suzanne999 · 20/12/2021 22:52

Roast potatoes, red cabbage, roasted sprouts

JesusMaryAndJosephAndTheWeeDon · 21/12/2021 00:35

What sort of beans? Green beans maybe, any others definitely not!

I like a few varieties but they don't go with Christmas dinner. Not baked beans though they are grim.

So meat and potatoes?
SittingontheSidelines · 21/12/2021 08:46

@Seafog "Green beens with butter and almonds"

Now I want these.

lampygirl · 21/12/2021 08:54

Assuming potatoes don’t count, then carrots, green beans done with butter and shallots. If you don’t count the shallots being in with the beans then add broccoli or peas. Parsnips have a special place in the bin. Sprouts are OK of stir fried with bacon but not ok as solid balls of sprouty shitness.

NinaProudman2022 · 21/12/2021 09:06

My personal choice would be red cabbage, cauliflower cheese and potatoes (mash and roast).
