To not comply...?

...if the government imposes restrictions over Christmas, given what we now know happened last Christmas with parties at downing street.

The possibility of this is rumour at the moment and hadn't been confirmed but I'm interested to see how others are feeling.

By restrictions I mean rule of 6 indoors for Christmas day or even no mixing of households for Christmas eve, Christmas day, boxing day.

I will not comply. I cannot do that to my child who is an only child and whose grandad is dying. He wants to be with extended (but very close) family at Christmas, as do I.

If we all test negative the day before we will be carrying on as normal regardless of the rules (all adults triple vaccinated)

YABU - I will follow the restrictions if brought in over Christmas

YANBU - i will not follow restrictions if brought in over Christmas

I’m not going to comply and I never thought I’d day that. But after seeing my best friend suffer PTSD from being redeployed to work in intensive care in the first wave whilst Boris told us to clap as thanks whilst he partied, whilst suffering severe PND and following all the rules all of last year and spending time in hospital alone with post partum complications, and now being a single mum. I am not following the rules. It’s gone too far and I cannot be in another lockdown. My mental health is at its worst and I just can’t. I’ll be ‘mindful’ and I still wear my mask and I’m jabbed including my booster, but I will see my loved ones. I never saw my auntie last year and she died alone. I can’t do it anymore.

PumpkinSpicedLatte · 18/12/2021 22:47

*and my friend who suffered PTSD has said the same. It’s gone too far and it’s too late to bring in more restrictions. It’s pointless now. And as an NHS worker myself it really is diabolical. Nothing is going to help other than making sure people are vaccinated.

Largethighsbadeyes · 18/12/2021 22:51

Nice to hear an NHS perspective.

I will wear masks and I'll social distance in shops. I don't go to the pub anyway but am worried for that industry, the arts etc

Two wrongs don't make a right.

The best way to express disgust at rules breaking last Christmas is to never vote for those individuals again, not to engage in equally bad behaviour.

XenoBitch · 18/12/2021 22:54

YANBU... the potential lockdown is the talk of the Covid board atm, and most people feel the same. No one will be told who they can and can not see in the privacy of their own homes again.

Anotherlovelybitofsquirrel · 18/12/2021 22:55

We won't either. Enough is enough.

Sparklingbrook · 18/12/2021 22:56

Urgh not this again. how many threads is that now?

Get over to the Coronavirus topic there's at least three just from today. Comply, don't comply you don't need validation from Mumsnet.

LadyCatStark · 18/12/2021 22:57

The only places I won’t go are places I physically can’t because the government has forced them to shut.

BurntO · 18/12/2021 22:58

Do what you want.

I will make my decision based on my perceived risk to my family. Some people I will see. Those who are at risk for a variety of reasons I will reduce contact with. Regardless of any new measures. It’s common sense surely…

StoneofDestiny · 18/12/2021 22:58

Listen to the science, not the government.
Don't vote for the lying Tories again.

LibrariesGiveUsPower · 18/12/2021 22:58

Rule of 6 for Christmas Day is laughable when clubs and massive parties are happening right now across the U.K.

I never have complied to be honest so won't start now. I'm working Christmas so not bothered either way.

Cheshirewife · 18/12/2021 22:59

Imagine just how imbecilic you’d have to be to not comply with a public health law given parties at Downing Street.

When your loved ones die of covid and the health system crumbles that will really teach the Conservative party a lesson…

They don't have a vote function. Hth

Well it doesn't help really. This topic doesn't have a vote function as such-other than to vote whether you are being unreasonable or not. I voted YABU for not posting in the Coronavirus topic. Wink

Exactly. People are getting so caught up in their own indignation they can’t see the wood for the trees. It’s a shit situation, so let’s not make it any worse.

Hmm depends what scientists you listen to, they don’t all agree with SAGE!

My dad died of covid early on, and last year was out 1st Christmas without him. We needed each other and funnily enough we all lived to tell the tale

Heath care will crumble in April anyway when over 10000 NHS workers lose their jobs.
Tee20x · 18/12/2021 23:04

I won't comply. They can fuck off.

curtains15 · 18/12/2021 23:05

100000 that is

ChristmasWithBellsOn · 18/12/2021 23:05

I might not fully comply (I did last time...to the letter). But equally, I won't take the piss.

Eg I might have my parents over if we've all had LFTs, I might have my sister to visit (with LFTs), or visit a friend for a playdate.

I won't be hosting cheese and wine parties. Because I'm not a twat.

Very erudite. You are clearly one of life’s great thinkers… 🤔
