To think back on this year's best "WTF" threads

I've been inspired by a recent post on AIBU about a DP handing vegetables, bamboo, and mis-matched hard drives full of films as gifts to OP and family (OP, I hope you don't mind me mentioning this as an example! I also hope you get some better gifts this year!)

Among all the more serious stuff, there have been quite a few threads this year which crossed the line into serious WTF territory. Some that spring to mind for me:

The lady whose new neighbour tried to enlist her into befriending his wife who had significant language barriers - and the resulting thread which got weirder by the day! If I remember, the OP was very calm and level headed about the whole thing!

The OP whose DP was in a cycling club which was being followed around by a mysterious self-appointed cheerleader who turned up to their events and who nobody could get rid of!

What have been your favourite threads from the MN twilight zone?

(I'm not a journo, btw, but if anyone feels like paying me for recycled MN posts, do go ahead!)

I remember reading the 'penis beaker' thread. It was way before my time but the laughter was still the same🤣🤣🤣

@immersivereader

Was the satanic cult in the woods pulled? Anyone have a link?

Anyone know what happened to the lady who moved to New Zealand with DH and kids from London and really hated it. I often think of her distress. WitchesandWizards might have been her name

Thewiseoneincognito · 18/12/2021 23:27

The Chinese lady in the garden one and the woman on the train with a penguin.

WhoIsBernieBrown · 18/12/2021 23:28

I really enjoyed the one where the OP had recently bought her own flat, and to make it more fancy she renamed it after herself. So it went from being 'Flat A' to 'Becky Towers' or whatever her name is. I kept imagining the bewilderment her downstairs neighbours must have felt.

Also, snapped and farted has me crying.

Lalliella · 18/12/2021 23:29

Thank you for the links @rainbowmash and@WeeFae Grin Awesome memories Xmas Grin

BookFiend4Life · 18/12/2021 23:34

@2TurtleDovesInARow

The autumn duvet cover one was Twilight zone for me. Just because I can't imagine a life so mundane you spend your days trawling for seasonal bedding and your evenings lamenting the lack of gifting equality in your friendship.
Lol this one was baffling!!
deathofastrawberry · 18/12/2021 23:35

@immersivereader

Yeah that's another good recent deleted one, the MIL 'rubbing down' GrinWine the son
😂😂 I didn't know how else to put it
WasgijGods · 18/12/2021 23:35

I can't believe no ones mentioned the parking thread with the DH in the hazmat suit!

AdoptedBumpkin · 18/12/2021 23:37

@WasgijGods

I can't believe no ones mentioned the parking thread with the DH in the hazmat suit!
I remember the husband answering the door to the police in a Hazmat suit, brilliant 😂
KTB19 · 18/12/2021 23:44

This one still disgusts ad angers me.

And I bet she didn't stand up to her husband and let the FIL come and stay with her.

Oh I like the sound of that one! May I have a link please?
TorySteller · 18/12/2021 23:45

Can’t remember whether it was this year or last, but there was someone who had a car parking outside her house every night, and the person would just sit there.

It was all pretty creepy and I don’t remember seeing a conclusion.

LifeIsBusy · 18/12/2021 23:45

The one where the neighbour was watering the garden fence. 🤣

Beeinalily · 18/12/2021 23:46

I can't remember the details, but the OP had either a cleaner or a nanny and seemed to be buying her anything she wanted. It was interesting reading, but then seemed to disappear, so perhaps a troll. Does anyone else recall this thread?

Niconacotaco · 18/12/2021 23:58

I remember a thread where the DH worked in a covid ward and had moved out temporarily to protect the family. OP found out by accident that he had only been in the covid ward for a short time and was pretending so that he could stay in the flat and enjoy the peace and quiet.
I have no idea what to type in to search for it! It might have been last year though.

HunterGatherer · 18/12/2021 23:58

There was one where a 14year old was seeing a much older man (like 30s) and the mother was saying it was not her place to interfere.
She got some terrible advice, including posters saying that they had similar relationships when younger and it had all worked out! I ended up challenging MN about their safeguarding policies. Thread was removed and I just hope that MN alerted the police.

Ulelia · 18/12/2021 23:59

The cycling group cheerleader was a great read.
There was one this year where a small package of white powder (I think) had been left on a posters doorstop. Half the comments said to call the police immediately or one day she'd be arrerested for possession, and half said definitely don't call the police because the drug dealers will be back for it and will stab you if they find out you've told 'the feds'.

Smokeahontas · 19/12/2021 00:02

I have steadily worked my way through classics this year. Some of them I’ve cried and cried laughing at.

OneRuleForThem · 19/12/2021 00:22

I don’t know if it was last year or earlier but does anyone remember the one where OP had a couple stay over from overseas (maybe her husbands brother??) but his wife/girlfriend locked herself away in the spare bedroom and didn’t come out for the entire stay?? Can’t remember if resolved and can’t find a link.

shreddednips · 19/12/2021 00:23

The one where the OP was wondering whether it would be ok to let her son take a super soaker to his friend's birthday party 😆

WasgijGods · 19/12/2021 01:02

@Chimley I'm not sure I could find it again. I think it was just 'a parking thread' or 'another parking thread' or something really generic

Thewiseoneincognito · 19/12/2021 01:03

Any of the I will not comply Covid denier threads, bunches of tantrum throwing toddlers spitting their dummies out. Truly a MN phenomenon.

Kylie83 · 19/12/2021 01:04

One that tugged my heart strings was the mother and father sleeping in their car with their school aged son, home schooling him and the father being abusive. Does anyone know if the mother got help in the end.

immersivereader · 19/12/2021 01:18

Much obliged, onerule 👍
