To think back on this year's best "WTF" threads

I've been inspired by a recent post on AIBU about a DP handing vegetables, bamboo, and mis-matched hard drives full of films as gifts to OP and family (OP, I hope you don't mind me mentioning this as an example! I also hope you get some better gifts this year!)

Among all the more serious stuff, there have been quite a few threads this year which crossed the line into serious WTF territory. Some that spring to mind for me:

The lady whose new neighbour tried to enlist her into befriending his wife who had significant language barriers - and the resulting thread which got weirder by the day! If I remember, the OP was very calm and level headed about the whole thing!

The OP whose DP was in a cycling club which was being followed around by a mysterious self-appointed cheerleader who turned up to their events and who nobody could get rid of!

What have been your favourite threads from the MN twilight zone?

(I'm not a journo, btw, but if anyone feels like paying me for recycled MN posts, do go ahead!)

OP posts:

Was "people shagging in my hedge" this year? I particularly enjoyed the OP's comment that a hedgehog doesn't tend to say "Put a finger in my bum"

BigTD45 · 18/12/2021 21:12

Does anyone remember the one with the Australian woman whose son was in a relationship with thevery controlling teenage girl? It went on for 4 threads until Mumsnet shut it down, I was gutted

Justheretoaskaquestion91 · 18/12/2021 21:17

Wtf how have I just spent 30 mins reading the wife therapist thread and there is no conclusion?!?! He stays with her?!

Gretaburley · 18/12/2021 21:22

The shaggers in the woman’s hedge.
Someone suggested it was badgers!

TinselTit · 18/12/2021 21:23

Does anyone remember the one where a woman was carrying bags and someone whistled or something and she put her bags down and screamed at them…or something totally random…sure I’m not making it up 🤣

fuckoffjournalists · 18/12/2021 21:25

@rainbowmash thanks 😊

That explains why I couldn't see an update. The girlfriend was crazy and some of her actions were very disturbing.
KatherineofGaunt · 18/12/2021 21:28

@Queenoftheashes - yes! The car parked on the forestry track and the dick man who wouldn't move it. Yorkshire puddings, that's what I remember!

ToMeetOrNotToMeet · 18/12/2021 21:29

I'm glad I inspired this thread! :-)

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 18/12/2021 21:31

What about the OP with the gated farm, the CF Dad with The Ranger ( Ford pick up not one Ranger) but I have to park here there's nowhere else and not getting the car moved in 15 minutes so locked in, the visiting handome brother and the CF 'sFamous Footballer Friend .
It all got sidetracked by Toby carvery and Best Yorkshire Pudding Recipes Grin

I lost too many hours of my life on that one !

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 18/12/2021 21:35

Rats , you've got the gate/Ranger one before me .

ButYouGottaHaveASkillJeff · 18/12/2021 21:53

Why were the son and his teenage girlfriend threads removed?

Cheeseandlobster · 18/12/2021 21:56

@TulipCat

Just remembered another one - the female OP invited two male friends round for dinner but not their partners, and then didn't actually provide any food because apparently they are mysonginists!
I remember this. The op was bonkers
asprinklingofsugar · 18/12/2021 21:58

Only one of the threads was removed (the last one she started) and I believe it was because some posters reported them for being too harsh about the girlfriend. However, OP did post again on one of her older threads a couple times, the first saying that her son and the girlfriend had broken up, and then a couple weeks later saying they were still separated and her son didn't seem inclined to get back together with his now ex. I think there was something about him feeling relieved he didn't have to deal with her or her behaviour anymore or something like that? I don't know if there's been anything since (I feel like this was a couple weeks ago at least) but overall seems a positive conclusion to the ordeal

SethWho · 18/12/2021 21:59

One sticks out to me. OP (very good writer) on holiday with her children and a friend and friend's daughter. Started quite funny but turned into post after post of OP waxing lyrical about how her parenting was superior.

EscapeTheCastle · 18/12/2021 22:11

Was it this year that an OP had a neighbour attaching a shade sail to the OP's listed building?

immersivereader · 18/12/2021 22:15

Oh god that badger thread!

Youdoyoutoday · 18/12/2021 22:17

Im glad the Australian lad broke up with the crazy girl! She sounded awful!

OneRuleForThem · 18/12/2021 22:42

Does anyone remember the one about the girl who was dancing on purpose in front of her friend, so the friend pushed her over? The OP wouldn’t take any criticism of her dancing daughter. I remember one comment another poster made along the lines of “YABU, they’re 8 years old, it’s not like she took a spinning roundhouse kick to the face”

OneRuleForThem · 18/12/2021 22:43

^^ oh should have added the other friend practiced karate, hence the roundhouse remark.

thevampirelestat · 18/12/2021 22:43

if there's one thing mumsnet has taught me, it's that there's nowt so queer as folk. Grin

MsTSwift · 18/12/2021 22:48

There was a mundane “would you allow your teen to do this” thread and one poster was adamant that none of her own dc or their cousins had ever been anywhere unaccompanied until they reached 18. Absolutely adamant that this was the case and was entirely normal. My mind was blown!

immersivereader · 18/12/2021 22:54

Was the satanic cult in the woods pulled? Anyone have a link?

Moonshine5 · 18/12/2021 23:01

@tinkywinkyshandbag

I think the steak dinner for the masseuse was a winner for me
Me too
DogInATent · 18/12/2021 23:06

Late to the fisting livened up an otherwise uneventful thread.
