To think back on this year's best "WTF" threads

I've been inspired by a recent post on AIBU about a DP handing vegetables, bamboo, and mis-matched hard drives full of films as gifts to OP and family (OP, I hope you don't mind me mentioning this as an example! I also hope you get some better gifts this year!)

Among all the more serious stuff, there have been quite a few threads this year which crossed the line into serious WTF territory. Some that spring to mind for me:

The lady whose new neighbour tried to enlist her into befriending his wife who had significant language barriers - and the resulting thread which got weirder by the day! If I remember, the OP was very calm and level headed about the whole thing!

The OP whose DP was in a cycling club which was being followed around by a mysterious self-appointed cheerleader who turned up to their events and who nobody could get rid of!

What have been your favourite threads from the MN twilight zone?

(I'm not a journo, btw, but if anyone feels like paying me for recycled MN posts, do go ahead!)

There's been many this year. The one where the OPs friends neighbour had written a letter asking to be her pet, and he had a cage set up in his basement incase she said yes. Also, the one where the OPs partner had been caught wanking over the neighbours daughter sun bathing in the garden. I thought my life was crazy, and then I found mumsnet and realised that actually, my life is fairly boring compared to some of the stuff that I see on here!

The one where the OP's DH got a topless rub down by MIL every time he saw her.. the replies on that thread were hilarious.. think it's been deleted now

Snapped and farted was brilliant. The op was doing a karate class with a bloke she knew, but was going off him, so she said 'so I snapped and farted'

Everyone was like, whhhaattt??

I think that was last Christmas. But very funny.

There was one where the OP lived next door to a man who lived alone but after the man left the house (to go to work, I think?), she would hear someone come down the stairs and go into the kitchen, etc. There were all sorts of assumptions that he was keeping someone hostage in the house or there was someone secretly living in his wardrobe or attic.

Ah yes. That one wasn't resolved was it? I thought they were planning to call the police.

The Korean granny in the garden! I want to know if they stayed friends. It was so beautifully serene and bizarre at the same time, and the OP wanting to go to tescos (or similar) at the beginning.

Can't remember the thread, but it ran alongside the second hand changing bag in the charity shop. On the other thread, someone came on to comment to the OP that bearing in mind, mumsnet was full of premenopausal, frazzled women, discussing a second hand changing bag in a charity shop, how could they possibly know what (whatever the aibu was) was. I cant remember the thread but that comment amused a lot of people.

Yes this comment was one of the best I’ve seen on here! It was about some strange (possibly satanic) ritual happening in a forest and the OP’s son had filmed a bit of it. Interesting thread actually… I wonder if they ever got to the bottom of it!

This got so weird that it maxed out the comments and shut itself down! Apparently there are a lot of armchair philanthropists who thought she should have set up regular free English lessons to be "kind", even when it turned out the male neighbour didn't want to speak to OP when her husband was there! In the end it was just daffodil emojis and chaos.
