Adult Clothes are so BORING! Where is the fun stuff?

AIBU for wanting non boring clothes? Mumsnet is insisting on advertising loads of wonderful Boden kids outfits at me, including a pink stripy cardigan with applique hamsters wearing flower hats! I want to wear things like this! It's the same everywhere, fabulous colourful kids outfits, nothing for middle aged women. Someone please start making adult clothes that are fun!

YABU - adult clothes should be sensible, navy blue or black, or perhaps a nice floral
YANBU - yep, I too would wear a reversible sequin dinosaur t shirt

Sainsbury's TU do some fab adult stuff. I bought a dinosaur Christmas dress the other day! They have conversational clothes which are quirky and fun

Shortpoet · 17/12/2021 19:30

Following with interest. I popped into H&M earlier and everything was black, beige and shapeless.

NameChange30 · 17/12/2021 19:36

Also, has anyone mentioned Hush yet? They have a few bright things. Here are some examples.

I want the shirt dress but most sizes are out of stock Sad

I like colourful but not too much so Hush is more my style than the other things on this thread, might be too "plain" for you though OP.

I love 60s and 70s clothes. Why won't they come back!

Trouble is now in my 50s it'd be hard to jump on the trend without looking foolish

Re: sizing, I only have one adult Frugi item and would say true to size, possibly a fraction on the generous side, but not sure if that's true of all of it. Most of the kids stuff comes up big. I haven't got any of the other brands' adult stuff from there. Side note: Babipur also does great Christmas tape!

Orangesarenottheonlyfruit · 17/12/2021 20:35

Damn! I've been ummming and ahhing over some pink and green tiger print jeans from Lucy &Yak for ages but worried I'm too old
Now thanks this Nest of Vipers I've pressed buy. Eeeeek!

Elfonthesofa · 17/12/2021 20:39

Not read the full thread, have you seen Popsy. They are mainly dresses, but they're veering away from the 50s styles these days. They're also making more jumpers etc.

DuesToTheDirt · 17/12/2021 20:45

I prefer to buy clothes in person so I can try them on, but there is much more choice online. I bought some jeans recently and all the shops had was blue, grey, black, so boring. I found some great patterned ones on ebay.

Toddlerteaplease · 17/12/2021 20:53

I really want a rainbow jumper and a sequin dinosaur sweatshirt!

NameChange30 · 17/12/2021 20:53

Oliver bonas sometimes has interesting things. I can't decide if I like this (which probably means I don't) but you might

I think I'm just too fussy. No buttons down the front (too busty). No ironing (too lazy). No frills (not a frilly person). I want the kids clothes, nice plain comfy stretchy things but with cool sequin dinosaurs or applique hamsters on them. Or frogs in hats or something.

Maybe you should make your own clothes. Or trawl Etsy.

A friend is always raving about feerietelle.com/

@toconclude

Run and Fly. 60 here and I own a pair of gold cord dungarees with bees on them and a red tartan knockout one...
Oh, I've seen those, they're fab! I've got the dinosaur ones.
RaPumPumPumPum · 17/12/2021 22:42

MargeWhereDidMyFingersLand · 17/12/2021 22:46

You can get applique shapes and different patch designs to add to clothes, either iron on or stitch, would that be an option OP? Buy the colours you like then add the cute stuff as suits.

MargaretMorris · 17/12/2021 22:46

Vintage shops OP!

sjxoxo · 17/12/2021 22:48

@ShinyMe you need to get into the world of vintage my friend!!! It’s made for you 😄 there’s lots online but if you’re looking for really fabulously fun things you need to go to some vintage shops. If you’re near London try brick lane. You’ll have a ball. Most big cities have a great selection of independent vintage shops & you’ll find absolute treasures xoxo

WreathSupreme · 17/12/2021 22:52

I used to buy all my clothes from dollskill, loads of different styles on there. I buy stuff from charity shops/eBay/depop now though.
I have some Run and Fly jumpers that are maybe considered “non boring.”

crazyjinglist · 17/12/2021 22:53

YABU - I have no desire to look like a toddler! Bright colours don't suit me, I like neutrals and I find adult clothes with animals on a bit infantilising. But if there are sufficient people who like that kind of thing, shops should sell it!
