Adult Clothes are so BORING! Where is the fun stuff?

AIBU for wanting non boring clothes? Mumsnet is insisting on advertising loads of wonderful Boden kids outfits at me, including a pink stripy cardigan with applique hamsters wearing flower hats! I want to wear things like this! It's the same everywhere, fabulous colourful kids outfits, nothing for middle aged women. Someone please start making adult clothes that are fun!

YABU - adult clothes should be sensible, navy blue or black, or perhaps a nice floral
YANBU - yep, I too would wear a reversible sequin dinosaur t shirt

Probably a complete giveaway to anyone who knows me in real life but I made myself a reversible sequinned dinosaur t-shirt. Bought a kids one from H&M, cut the dinosaur out and sewed it onto a similar colour adult one. Why should 8 year old boys get all the cool stuff!

The only downside is when I wear it, it looks like a t-Rex is taking a bite out of my left boob! Should have thought that through a bit more.

Lucy and yak is a good one

ShinyMe · 17/12/2021 17:31

@ginghamstarfish

make your own? I belong to some FB sewing groups and am always amazed at the fabrics being used for adult clothes - sparkly, cartoony, dinosaurs, Harry Potter theme, sweary, and so on, not my cup of tea but the fabrics are definitely out there!
I do make some things, but I'm quite an odd shape (short and very busty) and it's not easy fitting yourself and adapting patterns. I have crocheted several brightly coloured scarves and so on, and I used to have some jolly circle skirts before I put on weight.

Hence, why I make a lot of my own clothes.

P0gM0Th0in · 17/12/2021 17:37

Victory Parade, Silly Old Seadog, Love Ur Look (very 50s, but the name doesn’t suit the clothes), Lindy Bop (RIP but you can get on eBay), some Collectif, Cath Kidston, Run & Fly, Palava, Joanie, Irregular Choice, Miss L Fire (also RIP but on eBay), Lulu Hun.

Harkel designs are nice but EXTREMELY short waisted. Some Vivien of Holloway prints are fun but the classy end of fun, if that makes sense.

In regard to Victory Parade, I have dresses with the following prints: watercolour foxes, Frida Kahlo, dinosaurs, sloths, scenes with puffins. Love ur look do sequins. Silly old seadog have a dress with happy Brussel sprouts. You’d love it.

Run and Fly. 60 here and I own a pair of gold cord dungarees with bees on them and a red tartan knockout one...

P0gM0Th0in · 17/12/2021 17:38

Oh I’ve just seen your update about being short and busty. Harkel would prob be grand for you so.

TheFormidableMrsC · 17/12/2021 17:40

Scamp & Dude, Joanie Clothing, Meek Boutique, Lucy Dodwell, Hush (fun sweats). There are loads out there, Insta is a good shout for finding quirky boutiques.

mewkins · 17/12/2021 17:40

Run and Fly and Joanie

Pumperthepumper · 17/12/2021 17:45

Where do you shop just now?

georgarina · 17/12/2021 17:47

Etsy probably?

Emerald5hamrock · 17/12/2021 17:47

Dolls kill has lots of alternative style clothing. Sometimes DD looks a daisy or a rainbow or a she-devil.
It is her favourite store.

Evenstar · 17/12/2021 17:49

Jenny Juice have bright coloured leggings and dresses jennyjuice.co.uk/

I second the Scandi brands - Maxamorra, Duns, Villervalla etc.

I am around a 22-24 in "Muggle" clothes and wear XL or XXL depending on the style. (Can go smaller with twirly/gathered styles)

YANBU

Has anyone said Lucy and yak yet?

I’m with you OP. I live in quirky jumpers, sweatshirts and funky trainers.

Thank you to the person who mentioned Sparkle Butt! If I ever need sequin trousers I know where to go.

A large portion of my wardrobe is Sainsburys - they do have the occasional cat shirt or rainbow. I've got a few tops from Shein and a few brightly coloured stripy tops like the Boden ones (only cheaper) from somewhere online. I've got some fun gym leggings from Tikiboo and lots of different Doc Martens, including gold glitter ones. I have a few Fatface dresses which fit but which are a bit tasteful for me. I tend to find that dresses never fit me unless they're stretchy, so I've never been very tempted by the 50s style things I see online. I'm also not keen on things that are too fitted or that need ironing.

Molke do amazing underwear. Their bras are a revelation. I had one and have just ordered several more. Check out the range of materials used and their leggings!

Busygoingblah · 17/12/2021 18:02

I second Lucy and Yak. Amazing colourful comfy dungarees you can dress up are down as well as other fun stuff.

I get so many compliments from strangers when I wear my Lucy and yak stuff. This doesn’t happen at other times!

Disfordarkchocolate · 17/12/2021 18:02

Here are plenty of clothes out there that are fun.

Try - Joanie or Collectif, both are reasonably priced.

TheStarMachine · 17/12/2021 18:04

@P0gM0Th0in I love the look of Victory Parade - any hints on how they fit please?

I keep seeing these linked here and some of the fabric is fab, but those bras and pants look so lumpy! They look to me like they show under clothes really badly.
