For those of you who still have grandparents alive! How old are you?

Justsotirednow · 15/12/2021 13:11

Or how old were you when they passed?

I was 16 when my granparents from mom’s side died.

And somewhere in my 20’s when from dad’s side passed.
Although we weren’t in touch at all, not sure why.

I don’t know why I ask, I guess I just realised that I wasn’t around older generation much.

I was relatively young when my grandmothers died, but then I was the youngest child of the youngest child on both sides, if that makes sense.

So, my Grandmother died aged 103, and I was 22, and my Nonna died aged 98 and I was 21. My DF died at only 68 and I was 23, he died less than a year after his mother, the 103 year old. Life is shit sometimes.

LalalalalalaLand123 · 15/12/2021 13:53

I was 49 when my last grandparent passed away at 98 (from covid 😪)

ZimZamZoom · 15/12/2021 13:54

I'm 39 and my mum's parents are 84 and 90.

My dad's parents died when I was 26 and 29.

yourfavouritemuggle · 15/12/2021 13:54

I'm 31 and have 2 nans and 2 grandads still alive. They're in their 80's but are really fit and healthy.. my one grandad rides a bike a couple of miles a day! 🥰

elbea · 15/12/2021 13:55

I’m really lucky to still have all my grandparents (70s and 80s) at 30. This is a product of generations of teenage or young parents before me though. I still had two great grandparents up until a couple of years ago.

Keladrythesaviour · 15/12/2021 13:55

I'm 32. I've got one left who is 90.
Two died when I was 9 +11 but they were older (had mum in their 40s)
One died when I was 14.
My DH had 3 alive until recently but has lost two in quite quick succession.

OGenkiDesuKa · 15/12/2021 13:55

28 and have both sets. My family have babies in their 20’s where as my husbands family have them 30’s/40’s so he has no grandparents and his parents are the same age as my grandparents.

whereislittleroo · 15/12/2021 13:57

I'm 38 and my Grandma is still alive at 95. I haven't seen her for two years thanks to Covid and border closures.

I was lucky enough to know 3 of my great grandparents who all lived to 99.

RubyFakeLips · 15/12/2021 13:58

I’m in my late 40s and my great-Nan is still alive, she’s over 100 now.

3 of my grandparents still alive, all in their eighties. I didn’t lose a great grandparent until I was in my thirties.

I come from a large family and have all tended to have children quite young. When I was a child/teen I knew two of my great-great-grandparents. As is the case for my children now.

caketiger · 15/12/2021 13:58

I'm 50 and our last surviving gp just died two weeks ago at 96. My gran died a few years ago at 104.

Babyiskickingmyribs · 15/12/2021 14:01

Early 30s and all 4 grandparents are still alive, all in their 80s.

VestaTilley · 15/12/2021 14:01

Passed away, not passed.

DH has three GPs still with us; he’s 36.

TheHungriestMama · 15/12/2021 14:02

27 - maternal gps alive.
Paternal gps died when I was a child. Hoping the health issues don't pass onto my dad, I want my DC to be able to have him around when they are young adults as he is a great gdad

Singlebutmarried · 15/12/2021 14:02

I knew all my grandparents and three of my great grandparents.

First GGM died when I was 12, then GF1 when I was 21, GGM2 when I was 30, GGF when I was 31, GM at 35, GM2 at 41 and GF2 at 42.

I’m very lucky to have them for so long.

2anddone · 15/12/2021 14:03

I was 38 and nanny was 96 when she passed away 5 years ago. I hope you all know how lucky you are to still have your grandparents I would give anything for one more hour with my nanny Thanks

Fretfulmum · 15/12/2021 14:06

35 and 1 left

FrazzledMCPremenopausalWoman · 15/12/2021 14:07

@Airfixkitwidow

I'm 64, my mum is 87 and my grandma is 108. All three of us still well and healthy.

Grandma has 4 great great grandchildren.

Love this 🥰
Driposaurus · 15/12/2021 14:08

I’m 40 and my grandad is 95. I had all my grandparents alive until I was 21 (and a great grandmother until I was 19).

However my cousin is 24 years younger than me, born to older parents who were theirselves born to older parents. Both grandmothers were dead before he was born, and both of his grandfathers had died by the time he was 3. I feel sad that I experienced the big family that he too is part of - but he has hardly any living relations.

Grapesoda7 · 15/12/2021 14:08

Both grandads died before I was born, one grandmother died when I was 6, the other when I was about 13. Both grandma's spent many years in care homes with dementia, so I don't feel I had a relationship with a grandparent at all.

funinthesun19 · 15/12/2021 14:09

I’m 32 and my maternal grandparents are both 81.
My paternal grandparents both died before I was born.

CatServantIII · 15/12/2021 14:10

Grandad was 78, died the day before I was born
Gran 87, when I was 9
Grandad 73, when I was 13
Gran now 101, not out.

I’m 43

Charm23 · 15/12/2021 14:10

I'm 31. One Nan died when I was a teen, Grandad died when I was early 20s. I still have both of my mum's parents who are in their 80s

rifling · 15/12/2021 14:10

My last grandparent died when I was 44. I feel very lucky that she had my dad early in life as I had many happy years with her!

ImALittlePea · 15/12/2021 14:11

I only met one of my grandparents. He passed when I was 8. I now have DH's surviving grandparents in my life which is lovely but I do occasionally lament never really knowing mine as I grew up

WithASpider · 15/12/2021 14:11

My last grandparent died in January aged 94. I was 40. All my DC have known at least 2 of their great-grandparents.
