For those of you who still have grandparents alive! How old are you?

Justsotirednow · 15/12/2021 13:11

Or how old were you when they passed?

I was 16 when my granparents from mom’s side died.

And somewhere in my 20’s when from dad’s side passed.
Although we weren’t in touch at all, not sure why.

I don’t know why I ask, I guess I just realised that I wasn’t around older generation much.

My DH is 39 and still has a 92 year old DGM living.
I lost all mine before I was 20.

Mypathtriedtokillme · 15/12/2021 14:13

My nana is 82 (I’m 38)

CMOTDibbler · 15/12/2021 14:14

I'm amazed by this thread. I'd lost all my grandparents by the time I was 30, and my son is 15 and only has one living grandparent. Ds had a great grandma alive when he was born, but she died before he was 1 and my great grandparents were all dead long before I was born by at least 10 years

Pythonesque · 15/12/2021 14:15

I met my great grandmother a few times; she died when I was maybe 12 or so? My grandfather on that side died a couple of years before that. Grandmother on that side only died a few years ago when I was well into my early 40s (little contact with her though). On the other side my grandfather died just before I turned 2 and grandmother when I was 19. Both grandmothers reached their 90s though, there were nearly 20 years between them although my parents were born in the same year.

If I answer the same question for my eldest, she never met her great grandmother, but would have been early teens when she died; was 13 when one grandfather died and 17 when grandmother other side died.

noworklifebalance · 15/12/2021 14:16

My grandparents had all passed away by the time I was 12 or 13

Losingthechubrub · 15/12/2021 14:17

I still had all four grandparents alive until I was 25, lost the last one at 44

girlinaredcoat · 15/12/2021 14:19

I’m 36 and still have both my grandmothers both in their 80s. My grandfather’s have both passed though, one 7 years ago, one five years ago. I was lucky enough to know one set of great grandparents too, my great nana died when I was 18.

RaPumPumPumPum · 15/12/2021 14:20

Late 30’s and my grandad is early 90’s and fit as a fiddle

TuftyMarmoset · 15/12/2021 14:21

I’m 26 and I have one grandparent, DP has two. My other grandparents died when I was about 8, 16 and 19. For DP’s, one died when his parent was still a child and the other one in 2019.

samsalmon · 15/12/2021 14:21

Early 50s, one living grandparent

honeyfox · 15/12/2021 14:22

I had all 4 grandparents until I was 15 and only lost the last one last year, my grandmother was 90. We were very close and I was so lucky to have her as my mother (her daughter & only child) died 11 years ago. I am 43.

CoalCraft · 15/12/2021 14:27

I'm 27 and still have both grandmothers. My grandfathers both happened to die recently; one early 2020, the other early 2021.

NotFuckingLadyLike · 15/12/2021 14:28

My maternal grandmother died before I was born and maternal grandfather when I was 1.

My paternal grandfather died before I was born and paternal grandmother died when I was 5. I barely remember her.

Feel sad to not have known them.

SirVixofVixHall · 15/12/2021 14:28

@Airfixkitwidow

I'm 64, my mum is 87 and my grandma is 108. All three of us still well and healthy.

Grandma has 4 great great grandchildren.

My friend in her mid eighties had her mother until she was 108 too. Amazing to read of another !
DixonD · 15/12/2021 14:29

I’m 39 and have three grandparents still alive. All living in their own homes without any care needs.

My older brother is 52, so still has three grandparents surviving - which I guess must be quite rare.

andpeggy1 · 15/12/2021 14:29

I was 30 when my last grandparent died. But I feel really lucky in that 3 of my husbands grandparents are still with us and I love them as they were my own blood relatives. I'm 33 now and my husbands 35. His grandparents are 90 and 87

GrandmasCat · 15/12/2021 14:29

The first one died when I was a baby, the last one when I was 51.

PickleSarnie · 15/12/2021 14:29

I was 45 when my gran died aged 101. Thought she'd go on forever but think she was glad she didn't because was throughly pissed off with getting old towards the end.

Hormonehelp · 15/12/2021 14:30

I am 31 and have one left age 88.

Sixgeese · 15/12/2021 14:30

I am 49 and have one left, she is 96 and much loved.

My DS had 5 Great Grandparents alive when he was born in 2003 but by the time his sister was born 2 years later only Grandma was left.

irregularegular · 15/12/2021 14:31

I had one grandparent until quite recently when I was 48. I didn't have many peers with grandparents by then. Sadly she outlived both my parents.
