For those of you who still have grandparents alive! How old are you?

Justsotirednow · 15/12/2021 13:11

Or how old were you when they passed?

I was 16 when my granparents from mom’s side died.

And somewhere in my 20’s when from dad’s side passed.
Although we weren’t in touch at all, not sure why.

I don’t know why I ask, I guess I just realised that I wasn’t around older generation much.

I'm 32. My Grandma is 85. My DH Nan is 87 and he is also 32.

ItsSunnyOutside · 15/12/2021 13:27

I'm 35, my last remaining gp sadly died this year, aged 98, from natural causes. She passed peacefully in her sleep.

Dontgetyerknicksinatwist · 15/12/2021 13:27

I’m in my 40s. Nan still alive I think she’s 96.

rainbowandglitter · 15/12/2021 13:27

I am nearly 40 and have 3 grandparents alive and one great grand parent. Another great grandparent died 5 years ago.

peoniesandpastels · 15/12/2021 13:28

My only remaining grandparent is 88, I'm 32.

MelonTits · 15/12/2021 13:28

I’m 35 with a 90 year old gran.

Other grandparents died when I was 12, 24 and 28.

LaBellina · 15/12/2021 13:28

I’m 36 years old and have one nan left - she’s 94 years old. She caught Covid last year before she got her vaccination but it didn’t affect her much. Her fysical health is very robust but unfortunately she is suffering from dementia (the non Alzheimer one).
My grandfather died when my DM was a young teenager.

My other nan died 4 years ago at the age of 93. She was also very strong fysically, even got a hip replacement surgery at 90 after doctor said she was strong enough to undergo the surgery and he had rarely seen a heart as strong and healthy as hers at that age. She suddenly fell ill and died after a few weeks, after wanting to be dead for years so we’re thinking her death was caused by a sudden illness she deliberately choose not to fight. Her husband, my grandfather, died when I was 2 or 3 years old of cancer and I don’t remember him at all. I have never even seen a photo of him and nobody speaks about him as even his children hate him.

I had lost all of mine by my 20s. DH's grandmother is still with us (he is 45, she is 87)

Hyggemood · 15/12/2021 13:28

I’m 40 with 3 grandparents in their 80’s. Daughter is 14 and has 9 grandparents/ great grandparents.

EileenGC · 15/12/2021 13:29

I have one grandmother left. She’s 85 and I’m early 20s.

The others died when they were 58, early 80s, and 71. I was 7 years away from being born, 2yo and 11yo respectively.

Angel2702 · 15/12/2021 13:29

I’m 39 and have one Grandfather still alive.

Lost my last maternal grandparent last year.

Cornishmumofone · 15/12/2021 13:30

I had all four grandparents until I was 25. They all passed away in their 80s, before I was 37. I met two of my great grandmothers, but don't remember how old I was when they died.

I was grateful they lived so long as I lost my dad at 24.

x2boys · 15/12/2021 13:30

@Airfixkitwidow

I'm 64, my mum is 87 and my grandma is 108. All three of us still well and healthy.

Grandma has 4 great great grandchildren.

Wow that's impressive!
FreeBritnee · 15/12/2021 13:31

Good question. I was around 28 I think when my last grandparent died.

MaryAndGerryLivingInDerry · 15/12/2021 13:31

I’m 35. Grandmother 93 still alive.

Grandfather died 72 - lung cancer- heavy smoker- I was 15

Grandfather died 88- dementia- I was 18

Grandmother died 49- heart disease. - before I was born.

DeclareThePenniesOnYourEyes · 15/12/2021 13:31

My paternal grandfather died when I was five.

My maternal grandfather when I was 25.
My paternal grandmother when I was 32.
My maternal grandmother is still alive and I’m 41.

They were/are all circa the same age, born between 1929 and 1931.

FreeBritnee · 15/12/2021 13:31

I suspect my children will lose their last grandparent in the next ten years. So they’ll be under 20 which feels very young.

SaltySeaAir · 15/12/2021 13:32

I'm 37, and really lucky to still have 3 grandparents alive 💕

TwoBlueFish · 15/12/2021 13:32

My first grandparent died when I was 16 and my last when I was 46. Three were in their mid 90’s and one in their 60’s when they died.

slaybell · 15/12/2021 13:33

I'm 36 and have two surviving grandparents.

I had all four up until I was 32 and a great grandparent until I was 19

BobbieT1999 · 15/12/2021 13:34

Early 30s, I knew my great grandparents as well.

FrenchyQ · 15/12/2021 13:35

I lost my last Grandparent 2 years ago (I was 41).
I lost my others at 9,16 and 23.

EveryFlightBeginsWithAFall · 15/12/2021 13:35

I'm 43 and my last grandparents is in his 80s although he has terminal cancer

Cameleongirl · 15/12/2021 13:35

My last grandparent died when I was 23. As people now tend to have children at an older age, it’s likely that many grandparents won’t live to see their grandchildren grow up. I think at least one of ours might make it until my children are in their early 20’s, though, thanks to modern medicine.

4kinell · 15/12/2021 13:36

I lost my parents before my grandparents but I'd lost them all by the time I was 25 .DP is 56 and his gran is still alive
