Twat at the softplay car park

CheeseFiend36 · 12/12/2021 13:36

Leaving soft play this morning and walking towards our car. A family had parked next to us and were getting ready to go in. Their car was parked really close to my right side which is where toddler DS's car seat is. I opened his door really gently but couldn't open it wide enough to get him in without making some contact with their car, so I rested it on their left side passenger door and I made sure I did it softly, even then it was still tight. Man from the family comes up behind me while I was strapping DS in and says "please can you take your door off my car". I turned around and politely asked "sorry?", He repeated it. I said "I've done it gently", he then started walking off and said sarcastically "oh that makes it ok then", I said loudly back "well if you gave me some space I wouldn't have had to", which he ignored

Was I being unreasonable to have leaned my car door against his so that I had some space to put my child in? I wasn't tutting or being arsey or anything, but I'm not sure what he expected me to do

He was/is a dickhead. YANBU. Fuck his precious door.

JurgensCakeBabyJesus · 12/12/2021 14:46

I've always wondered why all spaces at soft play aren't parent and child spaces given everyone there will be with children

Whoknowsweknows · 12/12/2021 14:48

Yabu.

Dobbysgotthesocks · 12/12/2021 14:49

YANBU people are way too precious about cars! They are tools to get you from a to b not bloody ornaments. If you don't want your car scratched don't park like a knob or better still don't drive it!
You are not entitled to want to be able to safely get your child into their car seat!

andtherewere2 · 12/12/2021 14:49

I can't see how you could have done anything different OP. He parked like a twat all over one side, not leaving you any room to get your child into their seat.

I wouldn't sweat it, you did it gently and he had choice to suggest he reposition his car to give you more room as he was still there and had parked too far over, but he didn't as it would inconvenience him.

I've had to rest my car door gently against others that have parked badly but that's as I'm disabled and can't get into my car otherwise. Same if driver is pregnant. It doesn't scratch or dent if you are very careful.

I hate it when idiots park right on the line to give themselves "more room" and don't care about others. And it's better to rest it gently than to let it swing and sing the other car as you try to get toddler/ yourself in

TiredSloth · 12/12/2021 14:51

I’d go absolutely nuclear if I caught someone “resting” their car door on mine. There was a massive twat there alright, and it wasn’t the guy.

I’ve been at a hospital appointment and returned to my car where some twat had parked so close to my car that I had no choice but to put my door against their car and force myself (painfully) through the small gap. Going through the other side wasn’t an option. What should I have done? I’m sick of people doing a drive and dump then ‘going nuclear’ when you have to rest your car door on theirs.

Faevern · 12/12/2021 14:54

I have to wonder whether he would have said this had you have been a father with two children.

He was a twat parking like he did and I would have asked him to either move over or drive forward while you opened your door.

How hard I hit his door would have depended on his response to my request.

icedcoffees · 12/12/2021 14:56

How hard I hit his door would have depended on his response to my request.

And you'd then have two adult witnesses (and maybe CCTV evidence) that you'd purposefully damaged his car - so what would be the point? Hmm

WombatChocolate · 12/12/2021 14:57

Have none of you ever parked close to another car, because the person on the other side has already parked poorly?

When the person returns they will think YOU are the bad and inconsiderate parker.

Don t assume everyone who parks close to another car is a useless parker or selfish or deserves to have their car damaged. It’s often a knock-on consequence of OTHER people parking g poorly or badly designed car parks which dont allow people to park and give others lots of room.

rwalker · 12/12/2021 14:57

For the life of me in what world is it acceptable to put your car door on someone else car .
The fact you could get your door open enough to get your child in means he didn't' park right up to your car .
No idea how old your kids are and if move car back was an option but I would of put them in the other side how do you think people with 2 door cars manage it's not impossible .

icedcoffees · 12/12/2021 14:58

Have none of you ever parked close to another car, because the person on the other side has already parked poorly?

Nah, in MN-land, everyone parks perfectly straight in exactly the centre of their parking space, every time Wink

Faevern · 12/12/2021 14:59

@Shade17

absolutely nuclear are you sure?

If you park like a twat you deserve it, if you don't park like a twat then no one needs to rest against your car.

Get a grip ffs. How do you cope when something genuinely bad happens?

collybubble · 12/12/2021 15:01

I don't think you did anything wrong. Presumably no damage done.

I bet my life he wouldn't have done that to a man. Or if you had a man with you. Prick

DdraigGoch · 12/12/2021 15:02

After he went inside, I checked the other side of his car and he'd left himself a wide berth!

In which case, YANBU. If he parked in the middle of the bay then there would be no issue.

Why isn't a soft play car park designed like those P&C spaces at a supermarket though? They should be thinking of the needs of their customers.

ChiefStockingStuffer · 12/12/2021 15:02

Hoodie, jacket, blanket ... something in the car should have been draped over the door first.

Patapouf · 12/12/2021 15:02

@SusieBob

Why didn't you just reverse a bit and give yourself room?
How can you reverse a car when you need to put kids in the car? Get them into the boot?? Ridiculous suggestion.

It's shitty to rest your door on another car, however gently, but it's not like you have a choice if they park that close.

SoupDragon · 12/12/2021 15:02

Get a grip ffs. How do you cope when something genuinely bad happens?

Says the person who says they would slam their door into another car.

5thnonblonde · 12/12/2021 15:03

Neither of you WBU, modern developers make the bays too narrow for modern cars to pack as many people in as possible and the current government fail to provide adequate funding for public transport to get more cars off the road.

Hollywolly1 · 12/12/2021 15:03

I guarantee if the op had asked him kindly to move his car his response would have been the same,if fact he would blame her for parking to close to him,my point is a twat is a twat and so many of them around🗣they love to be 👂

SickAndTiredAgain · 12/12/2021 15:04

YANBU, people don’t need to get so worked up about something resting on their car. You didn’t slam your door into his.

Hollywolly1 · 12/12/2021 15:04

That's are generally brainless so no point trying to get them to see sense🤣

HyacynthBucket · 12/12/2021 15:06

If he had a wife and kids who had got out of his car that was so close to yours, it is highly likely that one or more of them got out on the same side as your car, and their door would have had to touch your car in the process, Perhaps they all squirmed over and got out on the driver's side but it seems unlikely. So you were both U. You shouldn't be taking liberties with other people's cars/paintwork.

KaleJuicer · 12/12/2021 15:06

YABU

yaldyy · 12/12/2021 15:07

I usually just let the child climb over from the other side and then reach back and do the seatbelt from the front.

Both were kinda unreasonable. Him for not parking centrally and you for not putting a hand between the door and his car so it's not touching.

Hollywolly1 · 12/12/2021 15:08

No she is not being unreasonable she was parked there first, the twat parked to close to her to enable his fat head to exit his car thevfar side
