Twat at the softplay car park

Leaving soft play this morning and walking towards our car. A family had parked next to us and were getting ready to go in. Their car was parked really close to my right side which is where toddler DS's car seat is. I opened his door really gently but couldn't open it wide enough to get him in without making some contact with their car, so I rested it on their left side passenger door and I made sure I did it softly, even then it was still tight. Man from the family comes up behind me while I was strapping DS in and says "please can you take your door off my car". I turned around and politely asked "sorry?", He repeated it. I said "I've done it gently", he then started walking off and said sarcastically "oh that makes it ok then", I said loudly back "well if you gave me some space I wouldn't have had to", which he ignored

Was I being unreasonable to have leaned my car door against his so that I had some space to put my child in? I wasn't tutting or being arsey or anything, but I'm not sure what he expected me to do

@HardbackWriter our older car seat used to spin through 360. Could you put the baby seat in the front to make life easier for you then you can just pop him/her in and fasten from the drivers seat.

We have extended rear facing seats - you can only input toddlers from the side doors.

I keep a Small hand towel in the car to put between car doors if this happens to me. I would never deliberately damage someone’s car just to be petty. On occasions I’ve clambered in from the other side, reversed out whilst a kind member of the public has watched my child/ren or just reversed out a few feet with unrestrained kids as nothing is going to happen to them. Cats are supposed to park to the left of their bays to give drivers room to get in and move out. Passengers can then get in once it’s dafe to. If only everyone did this it would make life an awful lot easier.

Where on Earth do you get that from? And how do you propose that works in practice when some drivers reverse into the space and others don’t?

Agree, cats don’t care where they’re supposed to be, they go where they like.

Hmm tbh I think most people would be pissed off to see someone make contact with their car like this. It's very annoying when someone opens a car door onto your car.

But equally I can't see what other choice you had in these circumstances, since you had another seat in the other side of the car.

Since the other driver was still standing there to watch all this, I'd have expected him to hop back in and move his car over slightly, assuming the problem was caused by his parking and not yours.

Imtryingveryhard · 14/12/2021 18:41

That’s why it doesn’t work. Just think about it to see the logic. Cars that is, not cats. Cats don’t give a shit.

Imtryingveryhard · 14/12/2021 18:42

Funny :). Inappropriate typo. Sorry.

Imtryingveryhard · 14/12/2021 18:43

Sorry, my cat actually jumped on my lap as I typed that.

Here is the cheeky culprit.

I’ve just noticed your typo Grin No, cats don’t give a shit where they go or how they park. Your cat is lovely Smile

Imtryingveryhard · 14/12/2021 19:00

She is lovely thank you :). She doesn’t give a shit about anything. Her sister is just as lovely but an evil bird catcher. Both are rubbish at parking. They just stop anywhere despite any inconvenience to others.

MabelsApron · 14/12/2021 20:23

They wouldn’t be cats if they did care.

There’s that wonderful image of a cat lying at the top of an escalator, in a city in China I think. Everyone just peacefully climbing over it. That’s a cat at the pinnacle of parking.
