Has anyone seen the new series yet? Well, first two episodes?
Just felt a bit low watching it 🤷🏻‍♀️Eurgh, why do we have to age!

OP posts:
Stuckhere2021 · 10/12/2021 15:26

I read some reviews and wasn’t going to watch it as I loved sex and the city and didn’t want my memories ruined. Stumbled on by accident last night (flicking through sky channels) - not impressed. Charlottes face - sad. SJP looks like mutton dressed as lamb. Cynthia Nixon looks great but OMG - it’s like someone has taken them all and removed their ability to act - really bad acting. I won’t be watching any more.

Justheretoaskaquestion91 · 10/12/2021 15:29

Can someone please explain who Herman is and why everyone is saying something is wrong with Steve? What was wrong with Steve?

Surely they can’t do Miranda having an affair again?! They’ve done that!

mumofEandE · 10/12/2021 16:19

@Habbyhadno

I think they've forgotten who their characters were. And the 'pivotal moment' was weird, call a bloody ambulance and do CPR for God's sake woman.

I miss Samantha!

Yes that's what I thought - he wasn't dead when she got to him Sad

mumofEandE · 10/12/2021 16:24

Cynthia Nixon definitely looks the best and I have always had a soft spot for Steve!
But why turn Miranda into a bumbling (and looks like going to be a drinker too) idiot - she has been a high flying lawyer for years!

Predictions:
Carrie is going to have a thing with that podcast producer or whoever that handsome man was behind the glass
in the studio laughing to himself
Miranda is going to have an affair with Che

DuckDuckNo · 10/12/2021 16:33

@bestbefore

I've only seen the first one but I think what's missing is the sandwich thing of having your own life/ kids grown up etc but also looking after parents / having to deal with ageing parents - I know it's not at all sexy but it's about their lives! Though I don't recall them ever mentioning parents in the original series actually come to think of it Hmm
The last episode of season 6; Miranda juggles taking care of baby Brady and Steve's Ma who has Alzheimer's. That was a nice episode.

I agree that Miranda is not herself in the new series. Then again she was not herself in the movies either. They plain forgot the whole character. Remember, she goes "Abu Dhabi Doo" ? Confused

Justme10 · 10/12/2021 16:34

With regards to her phoning the ambulance she probably just didn't want to leave him because she emptied her pockets and left everything at the door when she got home and his phone dropped in the shower.

Who wears Manolos or buys De La Renta for a teen in the pandemic? And how do they all afford such big apartments with walk in closets in Manhattan?

Rich people? And why would A pandemic make a difference?

CaliforniaDrumming · 10/12/2021 17:12

I just think even rich people are not wearing stilettos in the pandemic. Everyone is dressing down no? More likely to be wearing some kind of luxurious lounge or comfort wear like in Succession.

I may be too old and grumpy for this!

x2boys · 10/12/2021 17:14

@AdaptAdapt

I've never watched SATC but I saw a trailer where SJP says 'Hello lovers' to her shoes - it gave me the creeps, yeuch. Obviously, I won't be watching this series either.
Not sure why you would post on the thread then Hmm But Basically Carrie was all about the shoes .
SammyScrounge · 10/12/2021 17:21

@AllyBama

Oh god it was terrible wasn’t it! But not because they’re aging. I think SJP and Cynthia Nixon look great. Kristin Davis maybe not so much.

But they’ve made Miranda this terrible bumbling idiot! Like she hasn’t lived her whole life in NYC as a top lawyer but now suddenly can’t string a sentence together while talking to an African American woman. And they’re definitely dumbing Steve down to set up Miranda to have an affair or some sort of relationship with Carrie’s podcast boss.

And Carrie not calling an ambulance, come on. I know it’s a show but ugh.

Miranda explained how she got all flustered and tangled trying to avoid words likely to offend and finding she couldn't help saying them. The professor,meanwhile, was a little bemused but was very kind. Miranda thumped the mugger with her law book but was suddenly afraid she might be classed as a 'white saviour'. There is going to be some fine satire of current 'manners and mores' centring on Miranda. I hope. Carrie and Big slobbering over one another, and the masturbation scene,were nothing but cringeworthy. The prospect of Carrie learning to open up a bit about her sex life iegiving us lots of scenes like that is pretty terrifying.And disgusting.

Not sure you can generalise? I'm sure over the whole globe there are people still wanting to wear heels in a pandemic.

I never wear them but that's beside the point

Justheretoaskaquestion91 · 10/12/2021 17:42

Didn't Steve have the affair not Miranda?
Sorry yes this is right

There is quite a big difference between relatively wealthy fashionistas in New York and people with the wealth of the characters in succession 😆

DrSbaitso · 10/12/2021 17:45

It was always going to be hard to write Samantha out in such a way that they wouldn't see or hear her again. They would have to either kill her or, as they did, have a massive falling out. And how do you fall out with the least judgemental and most forgiving character of them all, who values friendship over all? Would be much more realistic for Carrie to get the hump over something and refuse Samantha's calls.

I suppose they could do the "unseen character" thing like Maris in Frasier and have all their Zoom calls cut out and so on, but a) that only really works when you never have seen the character and b) there's only so many times you can have the technology fail.

Maybe they could have the fallout, and over the course of the season they gradually start making it up with all communication off screen. The finale is an emotional reunion with Samantha, who we see only from behind. Would work for only one season, though.

sansucre · 10/12/2021 17:52

@HolidayTime2021

Over the years the press has printed some very derogatory photos of Cynthia Nixon but she is the only one who now looks normal. She also looks the youngest

The other 2 sadly have aged incredibly due to their extensive surgery/fillers/who knows what

Kristin Davis has had too much filler and Botox and it is as noticeable as it is distracting. SJP has had a mole removed but no other work that I can tell. Look at the difference in her face when her hair is worn down and then in episode 2 when it is pulled back tightly from her face. Ahh, the brilliance of a croydon face-lift really does give the illusion of extensive work and a surgical face-lift.

Cynthia Nixon looks great but the clothes they've put her are far more ageing than her (beautiful) grey hair.

FiveGoldThings · 10/12/2021 18:21

Look I watched all the old episodes and films and will watch the new one, but I’m surprised by the criticism. Lots of people are saying they loved it but the new series is rubbish. As far as I’m concerned the whole things has been awful from the start. Awful in an entertaining way but awful just the same. They’ve always been image obsessed, shallow two dimensional characters especially Carrie.
I think the new series does a good job of portraying how they would each have aged. Bit disappointed Miranda is so “floopy” but I’m expecting that to be explained in future episodes as either alcoholism or menopause.
I like most of the new characters, they seem better thought out than the original cast.

icebearforpresident · 10/12/2021 18:28

Was it a lot of shite? Yes. Will I watch the rest of it? Also yes.

My prediction is that Big never changed his Will so the ex wife (Natasha?) gets everything and Carrie gets bugger all. Or he was paying her alimony all these years, Carrie never knew and it will all come out now.

Carrie, in a fit of rage/grief will throw a shoe at the peloton bike. Bonus point if Allegra is on screen at the time.

Miranda and Che are definitely having an affair at some point, or at least a one night stand.

Charlotte will have a nervous breakdown because Rose is a total tomboy. Lily, in a fit of being a teenager, will quit piano for half an episode before making a glorious return. Harry (I love Harry) will make a comment about all the oestrogen in the house.

FiveGoldThings · 10/12/2021 18:34

Oh and I loved the addition of their older children. They were never going to be the best parents but who forces their teen into a dress or bans their 17 year old from seeing their girlfriend for a week? Great examples of what not to do parenting wise.

HibernatinguntilApril · 10/12/2021 22:42

Did Charlotte have two children then? I’m confused

What is the work she and many others have done to give that joker style mouth 😬such a shame, she was so pretty.

Sjp doesn’t look like she’s had work done or if she has it’s subtle. Miranda looks great, naturally aged, but I wish they’d put her in less frumpy clothes

sansucre · 10/12/2021 23:01

@HibernatinguntilApril Lily, her eldest, is adopted (from China - see the final two episodes of Sex & the City.) Later, in the first Sex & the City film, Charlotte is pregnant with Rose. Harry is the father.

milkyaqua · 10/12/2021 23:05

I predict Gloria will inherit the lot and/or turn out to be Big's birth mother. (I can't remember if Big had a mother in the series, only Trey's mother...) But I like the idea of him never changing the will and Natasha inheriting...

I predict we'll get a big shovel-load of more wokeism and worthy lectures when Charlotte's daughter turns out to be nonbinary, or trans. No-one gets to just be a tomboy anymore.

DrSbaitso · 10/12/2021 23:10

Cynthia Nixon is beautiful and always will be, but the red hair suited her so well, always the perfect colour for her. She's one of the few people who can't just pull off that bold hair, but really, truly rock it. I'm sad to see it go, I hope she gets it back. Her white hair is beautiful too, but oh, she looks so good in red.

ColonelNobbyNobbs · 10/12/2021 23:30

milky Big’s mother appeared early on when Carrie wanted to meet her so she followed them to church so she could bump into them.

Ahhhh... vague memories surfacing... Thank you!
HibernatinguntilApril · 10/12/2021 23:34

@sansucre Ahh yes thanks, definitely remember them adopting, but hadn’t seen/forgotten about details in the film
