Has anyone seen the new series yet? Well, first two episodes?
Just felt a bit low watching it 🤷🏻‍♀️Eurgh, why do we have to age!

I think SJP, who seems to have been the subject of abuse for her appearance for years, which is disgusting, looks fantastic in it. He hair is something else. If she's had work done it's very subtle.

Wow. I think, if you choose a job based on what you look like in make up & frocks, are happy to objectify yourself & other women, parade yourself for male attention based on what age you hope they perceive you as, & promote obsessing about 'winning' a man as if they are simply walking wallets & sperm banks to be consumed, you needn't complain if people ... talk about your appearance.

Also - YABU. The alternative to aging is death.
When women stop giving a fuck about the societal trope that only young women are attractive, & that attractiveness is something that can be bought in shops or at the hands of a surgeon, the notion that only a narrow, beauty industry-approved definition of what is allowed to be considered attractive will lose all its power.

Wow! Bit early in a morning for such bitterness don't you think. Whatever happened to women being free to make their own choices?
Loubilou09 · 10/12/2021 09:14

Oh dear there are some very harsh critics here!! I thought it was great, it was never the best acted show on television let's face it and it is just a TV series not real life.

I thought they looked bloody AMAZING too, particularly SJP and Cynthia Nixon. Kristin Davies has had a bit too much work but still looked great for 55 or 56 and quite frankly if I needed fillers to look that good then I will gladly have them!

I loved it, gave me hope that we can still look bloody amazing mid 50's!

DifferentHair · 10/12/2021 09:19

The Peloton PR response has been hilarious. A masterclass in what not to do.

I can't believe they had a medical doctor give a statement on the death of a TV show character.

thebellagio · 10/12/2021 09:21

I honestly sat there in shock watching it. I'd managed to avoid all spoilers (and to those complaining, you chose to open a thread about SATC) so I had no idea it was coming. I sat there literally saying "no...surely they wouldn't....there's no way....what the fuck?....what the fuck.....WHAT THE ACTUAL FUCK?????????" My husband was pissing himself laughing!

In all honesty, my expectations were incredibly low after the two awful movies that trashed the legacy of the series.

But this really was bad.

I couldn't stand Sara Ramirez' character (i bloody love her) - "you wouldn't want to be an old married cisgender woman would you?" as a previous poster said, why not? It felt tokenistic and as if they were trying to namecheck every single "woke" phrase they possibly could (e.g. when brady is clearly OTT in the theatre with his girlfriend and tells Miranda not to "sex shame" him, when it was inappropriate behaviour.) It just felt so weird. None of it felt like it was there to genuinely improve the show. The literal woke button had me cringing to my very core.

I think the professor and charlotte's friend have potential to be great characters and good additions to the cast, but to be honest, with no Samantha, no Big and also no Stamford (god the funeral scene got me, considering he died in real life a few weeks later), I honestly think they've lost the heart of the show.

I read that apparantly shares plummeted in peleton straight after, so I think because its a PLC they had to issue some sort of statement.

It is hilarious though!

Who's bitter @MrsLarry?
The women bemoaning their own aging, obsessing about how other middle-aged women look, & making miserable comparisons about imposed standards of attractiveness ... or the women who are free of that bullshit?

Fireatseaparks · 10/12/2021 09:40

I'd much rather watch the series about what Samantha's doing in London 😁

The problem they have is that Peleton previously had to recall a treadmill after a child's death and 70+ injuries to people and pets.
rifling · 10/12/2021 09:53

Yes!

I thought it was very annoying and ended up skipping through it. The little yelp that SJP gives at the beginning was very revealing - it's like the writers didn't really want anyone to mature at all. Cringe-worthy.

ArabellaScott · 10/12/2021 09:54

Every time I think it's sad to age I remember people who were denied that privilege. And that way every wrinkle and sign of ageing is something to be celebrated.

Anyway, hadn't watched the new series, and from the sounds of it it's not worth seeking out!

ArabellaScott · 10/12/2021 09:55

I think SATC was very much of an era. I also hadn't realised that a show supposedly about women's liberation was written entirely by men. Cast a bit of a different light on it.

Winterofdiscontent · 10/12/2021 10:02

I found it very try hard and obviously trying to be Pc. It was irritating it was such a big deal for Carrie to be on Instagram..! 🤷🏻‍♀️
I didn’t get past around 20 minutes, so also didn’t know about Big!! 🙈wasn’t posted in other to put spoilers

I don't have sky and I can't really be arsed to watch it - but what exactly was said about Samantha?

thewhatsit · 10/12/2021 10:07

I watched half of the first episode, switched it off and cancelled my series link to record. The podcast bit was mortifying. Why on earth would she want to be on a podcast like that.

Why have they brought it back? Samantha obviously said no AND Big said only if I’m killed off Grin.. Just let it lie. Is is the money and the relevance they want again?

thewhatsit · 10/12/2021 10:08

We didn’t have sky but we can still watch on Virgin. I think most suppliers have Sky 1 or whatever it was on.

They said she had moved to London, then there was a really awkward conversation that said they kept trying to get in touch after Carrie had some work issues with her and she just ignored them all.
EmKayEm · 10/12/2021 10:19

It is awfully written, and playing to the stalls.

What was good about the show was good about the show then.

If it doesn't fit with now, it should be left as a good show from the 90's.

The Saved By The Bell one is infinitely worse though...

Sundaymorningfiveninteen · 10/12/2021 10:19

This Should have been posted in Telly Addicts , they know the no spoiler rule over there. Angry

MissTrip82 · 10/12/2021 10:22

I enjoyed it. It was never high brow.

I did think they made too much of the ageing stuff - they’re in their 50s aren’t they? I don’t really associate that with being clueless around diversity and roaming around in hearing aids and being very awkward when people talk about masturbation.

SirSamuelVimes · 10/12/2021 10:22

Oh well in that case, I'm going to imagine that Samantha got to London, met some actual normal people, realised that Carrie was an annoying selfish twunt and a bad friend and that she could have much more fun with her new English mates! Grin Perhaps she could end up with a late in life marriage to a Marquis or something, that'd really piss off Carrie et al. I can totally imagine Samantha hosting wildly hedonistic parties at some grand old country estate.

I'd much rather watch that series!

AgnesNaismith · 10/12/2021 10:24

Interesting that they chose to become ‘up to date’ with gender issues, sexuality and racism but they let their strongest and most intelligent middle age female character look like a fucking apologetic idiot. Not only that but with the death rate from heart attacks increasing hugely and so many people dying from Covid they chose to show an on screen death…..as part of a sensationalist storyline, not to highlight dangers or bring attention to what so many middle aged women go through.

Either I’ve grown up and see it for what it is or they’ve grown up and decided to stick two fingers up at their original viewers.

EarPlugAfficionado · 10/12/2021 10:28

@Anjo2011

I loved it. Yes they’ve aged, but haven’t we all. Yes it’s sad about Samantha but it’s well known they weren’t friends IRL. I can’t wait for the next one. It’s good to watch something new and it was like seeing old friends.
Yes!!! Just go with the cringe. Only thing I hated was the sex scene of the 17 year olds. It felt wrong watching and the actors looked awkward.
Bimblybomeyelash · 10/12/2021 10:28

My eyes are rolling so hard at all the spoiler complaints!!! It’s a thread discussing a program that has already aired! If you haven’t watched it and don’t want to know anything then don’t read it FGS! A spoiler is only really a spoiler if it concerns episodes that haven’t aired yet.

KirstenBlest · 10/12/2021 10:32

Isn't the question 'Why can't we age?'

I have grey hair and wrinkles. I am not in my 30s anymore

Having watched the trailer, I feel like I want to embrace the fact that I look my age
