Please don’t.

But I suppose it means that he buggers off on paternity leave, conveniently getting away from all the flak. Not that he will be much use on paternity leave - can't see him getting up at night to soothe a crying baby.

twelly · 09/12/2021 10:22

The YouTube video in the OP is irrelevant to her resignation.

The recent video regarding the party did not show her in a good light in that it showed her making jokes about the law. However, she did not make the law , she is not an MP. Had she said these comments and it not been recorded then nothing would have happened regarding what she said.

So there are two issues:

  1. the party
  2. the video where she referred to the party
Should she have lost her job due to the video - in my view no, the video itself is not enough to loose her job. Regarding the party - I personally think the laws regarding lockdowns wrong - but nevertheless comply with the law. Should they have complied with the law - yes.

The fact she resigned is her own personal decision and if she felt morally that she needed to I think shows she is probably a decent human being.

SueSaid · 09/12/2021 10:24

I wish high profile women in supposedly responsible positions could give statements without crying, it just made her look a self pitying prat.

The interview with the young mum was absolutely cringeworthy. Who tf does Stratton think she is?!

RestingMurderousFace · 09/12/2021 10:24

@ItsSnowJokes

I have never felt sorry for her, she is an entitled, privileged twat. She laid down with dogs (to get 125k a year for a non job) and she came out with fleas. More heads should role but I think it's unlikely as senior tories think just the 1 head is enough on this. All a bunch of self serving, money grabbing cunts.
Hard to argue with any of that.

He didn't last time much to the dismay of some mumsnetters ...
OldaRailer · 09/12/2021 10:25

Op just put it there as a warning not to be too taken in by yesterday's performance. A public service imo.

Apiddleawiddle · 09/12/2021 10:26

Why would I feel sorry for her. People need to face consequences for their actions or they don't learn. Aslo she earns in one year what I would have earned over 9-10 years. She can away an shite a hedgehog before I feel sorry for her or any of them.

the80sweregreat · 09/12/2021 10:27

Couldn't give a shit if she feels bad
I hope she cries all week for those of us who followed the rules
Stupid woman

WrongWayApricot · 09/12/2021 10:27

What an arsehole. There couldn't possibly be a reason why the she wouldn't want to give you the ins and outs of her family dynamics on national television. Cry more, Allegra.

kittensinthekitchen · 09/12/2021 10:31

Why are people saying she wasn't at the party?

neveradullmoment99 · 09/12/2021 10:31

@GiantHaystacks2021

Crocodile tears.

Still rich and well connected though - so she'll get over it.

This. I didn't buy any if it. This govt need to go. What the hell will it take?
ancientgran · 09/12/2021 10:33

@RedToothBrush

She looked dreadful on that video. Its undeniable. She had to go.

However she wasn't at the party.

The bloke in the video with her, hasn't resigned.
The partygoers haven't resigned.
Those other people in senior positions who knew about the party haven't resigned.

She really is a scapegoat still.

How do we know she wasn't at the party? Is it because she said that on the video when she was practicing telling lies/spinning the truth for the govt?
onlychildhamster · 09/12/2021 10:33

@peridito she was working for rishi where she was credited with helping to come up with the 'eat out to help out' slogan and 'dishy rishi'. Rishi was more popular than boris and Boris wanted a slice of that. He asked her to apply to be his press secretary. There was a interview/audition process for that role, and she didn't do very well compared to the other candidates. But Boris said 'I have to hire her, or Carrie would go crackers'. Allegra and Carrie are really good friends.

Saucery · 09/12/2021 10:33

What a career, being the scapegoat for the rich and amoral.

GattioAnyone · 09/12/2021 10:33

I think she was as likely there as not.

Perfectly put,exactly how I feel. Away an shite a hedgehog is fantastic btw, I've added it to my repertoire of insults!
User135644 · 09/12/2021 10:34

Newsnight had to put out an apology over that video, allowing the woman a right of reply. Awful journalism.

A decent human being or a coward who doesn't want to face the scrutiny?
RaisedByPangolins · 09/12/2021 10:35

Thank you for that video OP. I wasn’t feeling sorry for her at all, but did say last night “at least one of them has some morals”. Turns out, not her.

User135644 · 09/12/2021 10:36

@TheresAStarmanWaitingInTheSky

According to Google, Rishi Sunak was best man at her wedding and they are godparents to each other's children. I'm sure she will have another job soon. Hmm
And married to the political editor of The Spectator. It's all one big cosy club.
MapleMay11 · 09/12/2021 10:39

@luverlybubberly

Rishi was her husband's best man and she's worked with high profile journalists like Peston. Carrie advocated for her when applying for this job People as well connected as her bounce back quickly - it would not surprise me if her next role was a pay rise and funded by the tax payer. I assume she's the most senior person working for the government in that briefing room hence her resignation being the most symbolic. If Carrie held a party in November at her flat then we won't be seeing the same from either of them as they are currently well protected by powerful people like the ERG and 1922 Committee
She will be earning a lot more than 125k in her next role, no doubt.
KnitStitch · 09/12/2021 10:42

The tears and resignation were only because she was caught.

MindTheGapMoveAlong · 09/12/2021 10:45

@girlmom21 Just wanted to inject a healthy dose of cynicism to counteract the saccharine burblings of unalloyed joy 😬😉
Joking aside, I do hope mother and baby are well.

But where the hell is Malcolm Tucker when you need him?

LondonJax · 09/12/2021 10:45

I have no sympathy for her. I do wish and hope that others follow and we need to keep the pressure up for that. There are at least two other people speaking in that 'party, what party' video so they can go for a start. Then the organiser of the party and all the attendees can stand up and explain why they are so much more in need of a social than the rest of us.

And, Allegra, if you're on Mumsnet, here's the reasons why I have no sympathy.

  1. My mum died in March 2020. Just before Covid lockdown hit. Not from Covid but her funeral was hit by the regulations. She had no pallbearers. Her coffin was put on a, nicely decorated, trolley and wheeled into the crematorium room. Where just six of us, 2 metres apart, saw her to her resting place. My dad had almost 100 people to his funeral and we always expected at least the same with mum as they were all family. Zoom calls had just started so that wasn't organised - the family couldn't dial in. We had to get silk flowers from Ebay as florists couldn't open and couldn't get the flowers. No wake, wasn't allowed. No hugging, wasn't allowed. That woman brought us up when she and dad had 3 day weeks to contend with so they had sandwiches so we could eat a full meal. She spent her last two years in a home with dementia. And we followed the rules which didn't allow her (without Covid) to have a full funeral.

But it's OK to have a social 'not necessarily socially distanced (Allegra's words) get together because the Government administrators have worked SO hard. Just like the NHS, shop workers, bin men, teachers, bus drivers (if you're not included sorry but you get my drift).

  1. You're a trained (supposedly) journalist. You are never off duty and you never open your mouth until you've engaged brain. That's your job and you're obviously so useless at it that you were never even put in front of the cameras. Which was what you were brought in for. Instead you were shoved into COP26 where you proved just how bad at your job you were.

  2. You didn't even have the commonsense to stick a tissue in your pocket so grotesquely sniffed all the way through your resignation speech. A pathetic and cheap effort to gain sympathy from (as the video above shows) a pathetic and cheap imitation of a proper journalist.

JemimaPiddleDick · 09/12/2021 10:47

No sympathy, she’ll “regret her words as long as she lives”?
The only reason she regrets them is because she got caught out.
Despicable Bastards, each and every one of them.
