Who is feeling sorry for her???

PineappleWilson · 09/12/2021 09:20

I don't have feelings about the woman either way, but don't understand why she had to resign when she seemingly didn't attend the party, and the others laughing in the video, who presumably did attend the party, have not.

Bimblybomeyelash · 09/12/2021 09:21

Nasty woman. God, this government is so depressing. I dispair.

MindyStClaire · 09/12/2021 09:23

@RedToothBrush

She looked dreadful on that video. Its undeniable. She had to go.

However she wasn't at the party.

The bloke in the video with her, hasn't resigned.
The partygoers haven't resigned.
Those other people in senior positions who knew about the party haven't resigned.

She really is a scapegoat still.

Exactly this. She had to go, but it's laughable if they think we'll all accept one resignation from someone not at the party and think it's all done and dusted.
Gargellen · 09/12/2021 09:26

This thing does need to run and run and not be allowed to just fade away as these things seem to do. Quite how it translates into BJ stepping down though is another thing altogether.

I have voted tory all my life but no more. Not after this. Boris Johnsons party is a disgrace to the country.

GiantHaystacks2021 · 09/12/2021 09:28

Crocodile tears.

Still rich and well connected though - so she'll get over it.

BlameItOnTheBlackStar · 09/12/2021 09:29

@Malibuismysecrethome

I thought she might have been crying for Arthur but no, it was herself she was weeping for.
What? Why would she have been crying about a child she never met during her resignation speech?
SnailandtheWail · 09/12/2021 09:32

@Malibuismysecrethome

Eh?

Every time someone on TV cries it should be for Arthur? Confused

CurzonDax · 09/12/2021 09:32

That poor woman in the OP video. The look in her eyes as Stratton was laying into her. Also, how privileged does Stratton sound? Without knowing the woman's situation, and her mother's, how can anyone say, "You and your child should just go and live in your mum's spare bedroom." If only it were that simple for many people out there.

LolaLouLou · 09/12/2021 09:32

I don't feel sorry for her.

I can't imagine a workplace so toxic that someone squirrels away a video for a year, for the purpose if using it against colleagues a year later.

I agree that she has been scapegoated. What about the person actually asking the question? What about the people who authorised the party, bought the cheese and wine etc. What about our lying PM?

FourTeaFallOut · 09/12/2021 09:33

@Bagamoyo1

What a nasty bunch they all are. I mean, they were practising a theoretical press conference, just a handful of people there, presumably all government employees? And one of them decided to leak the film. I very much doubt this was done as an act of conscience. I suspect someone was out to get Allegra, and probably not a fan of Boris either. I’m not losing any sleep over that though!
Yes. Clearly Allegra has been chosen to fall on her sword for the rest of them. She must have pissed someone off. I was feeling a little aggrieved that yet another woman takes a political bullet but then she did that awful sniffle after every pitiful sentence in her apology, like an over-wrought toddler, and I'm over it.
SickAndTiredAgain · 09/12/2021 09:34

@Malibuismysecrethome

I have no sympathy for her, but I think criticising her for not crying for Arthur during a resignation speech is a bit much. Are other people crying during totally unrelated work presentations? She wasn’t even talking about him, I don’t understand this link you’ve made at all.
EnidFrighten · 09/12/2021 09:34

I feel sorry for her a bit. She joked with colleagues thinking it would never be released. You can't do a job thinking anything you ever do could be shared with the media.

She's no worse than the rest of her colleagues tbh, Dominic Cummings had it in for her and I bet he's the one who got this released. Her career has been trashed and she didn't even go to the party! I don't know why she stays in but Alex Boris 'let the bodies pile high' Johnson is still in power.

luverlybubberly · 09/12/2021 09:36

Rishi was her husband's best man and she's worked with high profile journalists like Peston. Carrie advocated for her when applying for this job People as well connected as her bounce back quickly - it would not surprise me if her next role was a pay rise and funded by the tax payer.
I assume she's the most senior person working for the government in that briefing room hence her resignation being the most symbolic.
If Carrie held a party in November at her flat then we won't be seeing the same from either of them as they are currently well protected by powerful people like the ERG and 1922 Committee

anungratefulwretch · 09/12/2021 09:37

@Malibuismysecrethome

I thought she might have been crying for Arthur but no, it was herself she was weeping for.
'Crying for Arthur'? What on earth are you talking about?

And no, I don't feel sorry for Stratton. Rich, well-connected, entirely cushioned from the realities of life. She'll be just fine.

lookhappy · 09/12/2021 09:39

@Userno63637348

Wtaf! She probably comes from privilege and doesn't know what it's like to live in the real world!
indeed
anungratefulwretch · 09/12/2021 09:40

You can't do a job thinking anything you ever do could be shared with the media

I think if you're the PM's comms lead you should always assume anything you say in a professional capacity would be shared with the media!

supermoonrising · 09/12/2021 09:41

I actually feel sorry for some Tories as they have a total lack of empathy for anyone in a tougher position or anyone handed a tougher deck to play than themselves. Imagine going through life with no empathy. There are some half decent Tories, but few make it anywhere in the modern party. They usual lot love to chant the “equal opportunity” or “helping people help themselves” mantras but in reality that often translates to nothing more than wealth and privilege turning their backs on disadvantage and poverty. Half the time you can tell they don’t even believe the shit they espouse, it’s just a job and an elevated social status - a means to an end. Of course the prime example of that is Boris Johnson himself.

Joystir59 · 09/12/2021 09:43

Journalists for sure knew about this party at the time and may well have been present. None of them have resigned. BBC I am looking at you Wink

BlameItOnTheBlackStar · 09/12/2021 09:43

The thing is: media training 101 is, when there's a camera in the room, always always act like it's on.

So she was shit at her job anyway.

MindTheGapMoveAlong · 09/12/2021 09:44

No sympathy for her at all. It’s not like she’ll end up on benefits is it? Also unimpressed by the 23year old ‘special advisor’ Ed Oldfield, heard feeding her lines in the leaked tape. Talk about jobs for the boys…Hope he’s back on Daddy’s estate,with his entitled gob firmly shut 😡

Samcro · 09/12/2021 09:44

crocodile tears.
she lol when people were dying, when people like me couldn't see their loved ones in care homes.

DanceInTheKitchen · 09/12/2021 09:45

She’s a cunt and I don’t feel sorry for her. But there’s a few others that need to go too. The video showed her total lack of understanding for the complexities of life and relationships and her dislike of poorer people. Vile woman.

Westfacing · 09/12/2021 09:45

She wasn't really crying yesterday was she - a sad face, an awful lot of sniffing noises but totally dry eyes!

Pawprintpaper · 09/12/2021 09:48

Definitely crocodile tears. Also, similar to an article that I read about BJ sharing the nation’s anger and unreservedly apologising, what are they apologising and crying for?

Over a joke about a non-existent party? Poor taste if this was the case but sometimes people use humour to cope with a situation, if it was a private joke between colleagues about something that never happened… then why all the handwringing and sniffling?

If they are angry and apologetic for the party that was on the Rees Mogg video, how can they be genuinely upset, angry and apologetic if they are simultaneously lying about it happening?

It makes no sense at all.

Also, how BJ is angry and apologetic enough to accept Allegra’s resignation for it, then praises her to the skies in the press conference, suggesting that he doesn’t actually think she’s done anything wrong or that he cares who has. Because he is arrogant and takes the nation for fools.
