To think the anti-lockdown brigade have been proved right?

We were told that if we all got vaccinated life would return to normal, and that process would be ‘cautious but irreversible’. So we complied. I am triple-jabbed and extremely grateful for the work of the brilliant scientists who made this possible.

Yet now, we are heading inexorably back into another lockdown. The fear mongering is being ratcheted up day by day. If this was ever about public health, it cannot be now because everyone who is vulnerable to covid has been offered at least two doses of vaccine.

We surrendered our freedoms willingly, to protect ourselves and one another and because we believed that we would get them back. But that isn’t happening, is it? An authoritarian government has confiscated them permanently and we will never get them back until we take them back, which is what anti-lockdown campaigners said from the start. They have been proved right, haven’t they?

Too many people are thinking that they've had enough, that they're vaccinated and masks don't apply to them. Which is why we're now having extra precautions.
But still too many aren't vaccinated ( I read today that around six million , who are eligible, aren't vaccinated) so this virus won't go away.

We are incredibly lucky to be an island nation yet we haven't been able to halt the virus nor it's variants.

We're going wrong somewhere.
Maybe too slow to shut our borders, not enough complying with masks, too many thinking that their autonomy is more important than the greater good?

The irony of posting this on the internet.

@Justcallmebebes

All those saying "what lock down?" Just wait

It’s not a lockdown right now.
Who knows what will happen in January.

The thing is, it's a bit like when Europeans "discovered" invaded American. We brought germs we had long developed immunity to, because they were being exposed for the first time, they died in their thousands.

Children get tons of viruses through childhood, usually mildly, get repeated mutating strains etc and build immunity. This will be happening with our children now, but we will probably need years of annual boosters to prevent adults being wiped out due to lack of natural immunity.

It isnt a lockdown, and even if it is, its because this is a gradual process. It will take years.

I think the mess would be alot worse without the vaccines. They do seem to help prevent people getting as seriously ill. I think 6 month boosters may be needed for a while though.

Indeed... but we all know that viruses mutate, we were warned that it could mutate, yet we've carried on regardless.

We're not in lockdown. If we didn't have vaccines we must definitely would be, but we're not.

Why do people think the government want lockdown? What's in it for them? It costs them vast amounts of money, pisses off the electorate, it's a nightmare.

What else can you do though? It even got into Australia with their border policy as it is.

How strict do you want to be before a variant arrives?

The plan is that we won’t be allowed to truly live with covid in the sense that we used to live with winter viruses. Even though they seem to be keeping very quiet about how dangerous omnicron is, most reports so far suggest it has evolved into a mild cold virus as expected. This should be the best news ever, to be celebrated from the rooftops and all restrictions immediately lifted, including travel ones, so that omnicron can spread as fast as possible and become the dominant strain worldwide.
But no, that’s not going to happen. Everywhere needs to keep its population tied down and restricted until everywhere has had the chance to fully install the vaccine passports. Then there will be a global digital ID system and that is the plan.

We are not in a lockdown. The restrictions announced are nowhere near lockdown. For many people nothing will change at all from this week on.

Most of us will still be at work.
A minority of people will be affected by covid passes - but they are easily accessed via an LFT if not vaccinated.
Wearing a mask for a short while whilst inside certain places isn't really a big deal for the majority of people.

Like Ireland with over 90%? Like Gibraltar(over 100%)? No, didn't stop restrictions there either 🤔 The vaccines aren't effective enough. They haven't worked anywhere. Why can't they just admit this?
They aren’t effective enough to stop the spread on their own, although that is at least in part due to disappointing uptake.

They’ve certainly helped with hospitalization and death rates though. I imagine the Uk would already have been back in lockdown if those rates were as they were pre-vaccine.

There have now been enough people double and triple vaccinated in the vulnerable and elderly groups - those most likely to end up in hospital or with serious illness - so that if the vaccines work as they tell us they do (and I’m not saying they don’t) cases really shouldn’t matter anymore. Instead it’s just endless carrot on a stick. Well I’m fed up of being that donkey!

We have a hugely successful vaccine uptake in this country. How people can blame this on people not taking the vaccine I just don’t know.

The “anti-lockdown brigade” have been right many times over.

Report

This is getting ridiculous now. Many people with 2 and even 3 jabs are getting Covid. It was said at the start of this that an effective vaccine would be difficult to develop.

I really think that we just need to get on with things now, and just focus on treating people that actually get Covid

It is not a lockdown by any stretch. Less restrictions than most of Europe. Working from home to give less contacts and more space for those who cannot seems sensible to me.

Report
Lostinacloud · 08/12/2021 20:13

Exactly. Billions of expensive vaccines that last all of a few months produced and rolled out in under a year. Where are the treatments? I see a few (from Pfizer) have started to trickle in but they’re the real answer now surely. Then why would it matter if the odd non vaccinated adult turned up in icu?
But no vaccines for all = no digital passports
