Stock answer to defend the tories is 'Labour are shite, Keir Starmer is rubbish, there's no opposition'.

@ilovesooty

I've stayed consistently that I don't think this issue is my primary consideration when deciding who to vote for and I cannot comprehend "at least they know what a woman is" as a justification for voting Tory.

Is that what you mean by posting "in support of trans activism"?

If that's what you mean you could say so instead of making snide comments about rodeos.

And no need for the his/ her jibe either.

A poster said, to me, that we didn't know where you stood on that. It's quite clear where you stand on that from many other threads.

And don't know if you are a man or a woman. How would I? Hmm

I reached peak trans a couple of years ago and was swayed a lot by MN posters on how womens rights were being threatened by TRAs to the point I got into a massive argument one Christmas Day with my ‘right on’ DB and DH over it who accused me of being an anti trans bigot for expressing my concerns.

However, recently I’ve started to peel back the other way ironically also by MN. This is because not matter the topic, some posters have to turn it to a trans debate. It’s obsessive and is starting to feel very uncomfortable and sinister. There are some posters who will side with anyone or cause no matter how nasty if that person or cause is anti trans.

I'm struggling to believe you were ever convinced self ID threatened women's rights because you have characterised the discussion as anti trans. Women and specifically feminist who have experience of setting up single sex services have offered to share their expertise with TRA's to make sure trans people have access to services but that help has been rejected. As far as TRA's are concerned the only solution is for women to budge over and make room even when that approach goes against our interests.

I think the ability to accept you may agree with a person on one issue whilst you may not even like them or agree with them on anything else is a sign of maturity. I don't take an oppositional stance on an opinion because I don't like the person expressing it.

You have a government engaging in culture wars, putting minority lives under threat, ruining industries, cutting back welfare, large scale corruption . Things that statistically negatively impact women the most but none of this matters because ‘at least Boris knows what a woman is’.

I think the Conservative government is sitting back and letting all the left leaning parties destroy themselves over identity politics. I've no doubt they are very satisfied with what they are seeing but I don't think you can blame them for the divisive purity politics. This particular conservative government appear to be quite libertarian.

These are the same type of voters like Susan Sarandon who refused to vote for Hilary because she wasn’t pro-woman enough, allowing Trump to win so he could pack the Supreme Court with anti-abortionist Gilead wannabes.

Should she have voted for Hilary to prevent a potential challenge to Roe Vs Wade? If you think she should have voted a particular way because of one issue why do you think it's unreasonable for other people to be single issue voters?

This bullshit does real damage to women not a few nutty TRAs which nobody in real life would mistake for women. No laws would ever be passed to erase women. I’m totally over this anti-trans shit. I can’t be the only one who’s changed their views and become more disturbed by the zealots on MN.

Real damage is already being done to women because the legal definition of women is being eroded; the woman posting here about being unable to access single sex rape survivor support, the women in prison being raped by male born inmates, the teenage girl in the US raped in the school toilets, the woman who posted in feminism about living in a tent because she couldn't find a single sex DV shelter, the women being hounded out of their jobs, the prison inmate in the states who had learning disabilities and was repeatedly raped by her cellmate for a week before anyone noticed, the ND teenagers being convinced that a trans identity explains their social difficulties and being led down a path towards irreversible harm in the hope it will fix everything.

I could go on and on... Are these people not vulnerable enough for you or do you just see them as collateral damage?

LakieLady · 10/12/2021 10:38

I'm diehard Labour and joined the party over 50 years ago and even I think they're a bit shite.

Starmer has done a bit better at calling the Tories to account over the last few weeks, but most of us could have done just as well, I reckon, given the scale of the latest Tory awfulness.

They've wasted too much energy on fighting their own members instead of fighting the Tories imo.

ilovesooty · 10/12/2021 11:02

I'm not prepared to engage in an argument @RepentMotherfucker.

I believe that Labour would be a far better option for the people of this country than this government which has consistently screwed over the most vulnerable, including women and children.
And women have not been protected or safeguarded by the Tories anyway.

I'm not arguing. I'm answering a question you asked me!
ilovesooty · 10/12/2021 12:45

I asked you that question because of the nature of your remarks. You answered it in the way that I expected. Hence my seeing little point in any further engagement with you.

Have a pleasant day.
