Will Johnson be gone before Christmas or after?
589

Sarahlou63 · 07/12/2021 22:38

I'm thinking the 1922 committee grandees will run out of patience fairly soon. So will Johnson stand aside to be a better parent before Christmas or will he continue to drag his party into the shit into 2022?

YABU - hangs on for grim death

YANBU - Who the fuck is Johnson?

@Opal8

He's got an 80 seat majority

Until the voters who handed him that victory start bleating then he's pretty safe

The tories learnt a LOT from Trump and the GOP...

No the Conservatives have an 80 seat majority they can get rid of Johnson anytime they want and will do in about six weeks or so

Just pondering whether he's a better parent than he is prime minister. That's a tough one OP given his woeful track record on both counts.

Since his maxim is one rule for everyone else and no rule for him, I can't see him even thinking he ought to go. Time will tell but there's no one waiting in the wings that seems any better, depressingly.

Absolutely not.
Public opinion hasn't shifted against him, despite everything he personally, and the Tory party in general have done.
Thats democracy though innit.

@MindTheGapMoveAlong

I’m expecting him to announce ‘deeply regret…ahem, err, burn-out waffle waffle long Covid, complications err,, Churchill, country first, waffle, sacrifice, something obscure about Plato or So-crates, possibly a bit of cod Latin, oops, err Carrie up the duff again (also at least 3 Downing street staffers. Allegedlyy), so long and thanks for all the fish. But not before Christmas.

We've found his speechwriter ladies and gentlemen

He'll go when one of the following happens:

(1) his party gets sick of him AND has a willing and viable replacement in mind (someone who can win a leadership contest and a general election) and he loses a leadership challenge/is persuaded to resign or

(2) he decides to go because he's gained what he can from serving as PM and staying any longer won't enhance his chances to make a fortune on the speaking/writing/consulting/etc. circuit as an ex-PM.

Neither of those is likely to happen this year.

When and if he does go, there'll be a leadership contest and we'll get another Tory, likely better in some ways and almost undoubtedly much worse in others, and even if that person/the party decide to call a General Election, they'll win (and given recent history, possibly increase their majority).

Wash, rinse, repeat until there's an Opposition that can win a general election.
@Cheerbear24

It's not gaslighting, it's lying. Pure deceit. Big shiny whoppers. Utterly two-faced.

Boris Johnson will go down in history as the most dishonest and deceptive PM we've ever had. #Boristheliar
I do agree on the lying @madroid but I said gaslighting as he / they try to make it seem like the fault of the general public through our lack of understanding of the rules (Barnard castle - fine to drive the length of the country with covid) and their outright slipperiness in their choice of language (the guidelines were all followed etc). Utter bastards.

I think you are wrong. MANY people are turning against Boris now. People have had enough. Enough of the Tories and their lies, and enough of Covid and the restrictions and how it has changed their lives. And now we find out that Bozza and his cronies have royally shafted us.

No WAY has public opinion not changed.

We need a general election, SOON, and the Conservatives will NOT win.

He’s going nowhere.

Why? Because for all his incompetence & venal dishonesty he remains an electoral asset to the Tory party. And until such times as that demonstrably changes, he’s safe.

Not necessarily. Thatcher won a 102 seat majority, she was gone within 3 years. It isn’t about the voters or the public in general, it’s about who is prepared to stab him in the back.

That’s not how it works. We’re over 2 years off having another election. There is absolutely no reason for one sooner. Unless Labour sort themselves out to be an effective challenger, Conservatives may well win.

After.
At HMS PInafore a couple of weeks ago they floated a life sized blow up dummy of Boris over the quarter deck. There was a shout of "Albatross", a loud bang. Drowned at see. There applause was rapturous.

The conservatives are bored and embarrassed by him anyone who thinks he will be kept in place any longer than a few more weeks isn't looking at the polls. The electorate are sick of Johnson and his lies and the tories need to dump him pretty quickly

Public opinion absolutely has shifted against him and has done for sometime, it's an absolute nonsense to think that he continues to be a popular figure nothing could be further from the truth

First past the post is going to fuck us all for a long time.
Don't forget that more people cast votes for non-Tories last GE, but they still won a massive majority because of the system.
