A woman sacked for speaking up for girls safety was replaced by this person.

Girl guides are not safe for girls. AIBU?

In plain sight.

brighousepres · 29/11/2021 14:01

So if you’re a Guide leader it’s fine to do what the Monica person has done? Unbelievable. You couldn’t make this up…

catzwhiskas · 29/11/2021 16:50

So Bosky, there are still special people to whom the normal rules do not apply? Thank you for posting all these very relevant links. Thank goodness this thread is now in AIBU. Here to be read by anyone concerned about what is happening to young girls where there are very few safe and exclusive places and organizations left.

catzwhiskas · 29/11/2021 17:00

And again I see no explanation from the 11% as to why they aren’t concerned about this issue....

DaphneDeloresMoorhead · 29/11/2021 17:46

I wonder if the girls featured on her personal Facebook page ticked their media consent form to cover personal use on personal social media 🤔

brighousepres · 29/11/2021 21:07

@DaphneDeloresMoorhead - normally I would give the SM user the benefit of the doubt here - but seeing as Monica has put up photos of herself with guns and bondage gear and invited people to comment… and is a Guide leader… I’m thinking that benefit of the doubt may not be necessary?

I am gobsmacked that Girl Guides think this is acceptable behaviour. (Actually - have they said anything re? Not that I know if)

Presumably it’s ok if the Guides copy this sort of behaviour then, and also comment on the breasts etc? FFS.

DaphneDeloresMoorhead · 29/11/2021 22:16

@brighousepres when I was a gg leader the restrictions on photos etc were really tight. Parents had to give consent on one of 3 levels - no consent at all to any photos/consent for internal gg media/consent for photos to be shared publicly.
As far as I remember there was no consent option for "leader can share photos on their private SM account"

DaphneDeloresMoorhead · 29/11/2021 22:18

And as a district commissioner, responsible for ensuring the units under their leadership follow those rules, Monica would be well aware of GG photography policy

DaphneDeloresMoorhead · 29/11/2021 22:21

Abd I specifically highlight...
Make sure girls are aware that they should not share photos or videos of their friends online without permission from parents/carers.

PlanktonsComputerWife · 29/11/2021 22:27

Is there an alternative to GG?

This is clearly not an organisation putting girls first.

Suzanne999 · 29/11/2021 22:31

A person posing with weapons when in a position of trust and responsibility with children is disturbing ( and IMO unacceptable) regardless of their gender / sexual orientation / gender identity.

But I didn't think the pictures on her profile were of people in Girlguiding? Is there another picture?

DaphneDeloresMoorhead · 29/11/2021 23:16

@Eggybrains I'm pretty sure there were some brownies in the background of her Facebook bannery picture as there was a bunch of little girls and she was in her DC uniform

They look of varying ages, if this is the picture you mean, with some too young to be Brownies. I suspect this picture was taken at a wedding, not at Girlguiding. thecritic.co.uk/jeepers-creepers/

I have concerns about Monica, but I don't think that this photo is necessarily breaching photo policy of Girlguiding, as I think it's quite likely to be nothing to do with Girlguiding in term of its origins. It may have relevance to Girlguiding in terms of its implications.

11% now? Looks like some ballot box stuffing has been going on.
